Brees gets 5,000 yards again
(12/30/12) Saints quarterback Drew Brees was a standout again in Week 17 against Carolina. Brees passed for 396 yards, giving him 5,177 this season. That makes him the first player to eclipse 5,000 yards three times. His four touchdown passes gave him 43 in 2012, and he's the first player with 40 touchdown passes in consecutive seasons. His final stats against the Panthers were 29 of 43 passing for 396 yards, four touchdowns and one interception.
Brees hot as season ends
(12/27/12) Saints quarterback Drew Brees heads into Week 17 against Carolina with a good matchup and great history against the Panthers. In his past five meetings with the Panthers, Brees has four games with multiple touchdowns and three games with at least 325 passing yards. In Week 2, Brees had 325 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions and a rushing touchdown for 21 Fantasy points. That was one of 11 20-plus Fantasy point outings for Brees this year, and he has at least 35 points in his past two games against the Buccaneers and Cowboys. The Panthers have also allowed five quarterbacks to reach at least 20 Fantasy points this year, including three in the past six games.
Brees coasting at the finish
(12/23/12) Saints quarterback Drew Brees finished 37 of 53 for 446 yards passing -- matching his season high -- and three touchdowns during New Orleans' 34-31 overtime win at Dallas in Week 16. Brees completed a pass to seven different players as Marques Colston (153 yards) and Darren Sproles (104) both eclipsed the century mark. He connected on scores with Lance Moore (six yards), Pierre Thomas (five) and Dwyane Thomas (three) for his 10th outing of the season with at least three touchdowns. His 53 pass attempts also marked his second-highest total of the season.
Big showing for Brees in Big D?
(12/21/12) New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees has registered seven outings with at least five touchdown passes in his career. One of those performances came against Dallas, his opponent in Week 16. During that game in December 2006, Brees completed 26 of his 38 passes for 384 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions. He will face off against a Cowboys team that has displayed improvement defending the pass this season and ranks 14th in the NFL. Dallas is surrendering 225.1 yards throughout the air on the year.
Brees rebounds Week 15
(12/16/12) Saints quarterback Drew Brees surpassed 300 passing yards for the 65th time in his career and managed at least four passing touchdowns for the 20th time in his career during a Week 15 win vs. Tampa Bay. Brees has managed four passing touchdowns three times this year, including twice against the Bucs. On Sunday, he threw touchdown passes to Darren Sproles (2 yards), Lance Moore (7 yards), David Thomas (9 yards) and Joe Morgan (34 yards). Brees finished 26 of 39 for 307 yards and was pulled with New Orleans leading 34-0 in the fourth quarter. He also had 11 rushing yards.
Just how great is Drew Brees for Fantasy? He's posted 20-plus Fantasy points in 25 of his last 32 games, more than anyone else. He's missed one game since arriving in New Orleans and has attempted more than 650 passes in each of his past three seasons. When you shop for a Fantasy quarterback, Brees gives you everything you could possibly want in terms of production and consistency, which is why he's expected to be the top quarterback taken in drafts this summer. But because of the deluge of quarterbacks available, he figures to slip into Round 2 of most drafts. Don't hesitate to take him then knowing just how effective he should be. The plus side is in drafting Brees you won't need to take a backup, freeing up another roster spot for someone else. (Updated 4/26/13)
