Palmer digs Cards' playbook: Carson Palmer told The Associated Press he's a big fan of Bruce Arians' playbook. He said the Cardinals have installed about 75 percent of the offense from the playbook, but only ran about 5 percent of it during the first workout. Arizona has two more days of this voluntary minicamp and will get a better gauge during a mandatory minicamp in June. "It's very, I guess user-friendly would be the right word," the Cardinals quarterback said of Arians' system. "There's a lot on film to watch, plenty of texts in the playbooks and diagrams, pictures. It is easy to learn. It's not easy, but some systems you get in, it's difficult to learn because there's not a lot of history, but with this, there's a ton of history with this offense and this offense being successful, so it is an easy offense to get used to." Arians' offense typically calls for a lot of downfield passing. While that sounds great, it will mean the Cardinals have to do a better job protecting their quarterback, something they couldn't get done last season. Palmer has potential to be a great bye-week replacement quarterback and maybe even a low-end weekly starter given Arians system and his receiving corps led by Larry Fitzgerald. He'll get snared with a late-round pick in pretty much every draft. (Updated 4/24/13). |
| Carson Palmer went from the starting quarterback for the Raiders the past two seasons to the starter for the Cardinals this year. It’s a nice upgrade for the 33-year-old passer, who is entering the twilight of his career. Palmer actually was a quality Fantasy quarterback in 2012. In 14 full games he had at least 18 Fantasy points 10 times. His biggest issue was turnovers since he had at least one interception in 11 games, including nine games in a row. But his final stats were respectable at 4,018 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and 14 interceptions and 18 carries for 36 yards and one touchdown. The reason the move to the Cardinals is an upgrade is Palmer now gets to throw to Larry Fitzgerald, who is the best receiver he’s ever had. He also gets a coach in Bruce Arians who likes a downfield attack, and Palmer has other quality weapons in Michael Floyd, Andre Roberts and Rob Housler. The Cardinals need to upgrade their offensive line to keep Palmer off his back – they allowed the most sacks in the NFL last year at 58 – but Palmer enters the season as a No. 2 Fantasy quarterback with upside. He’s worth a late-round pick in deeper leagues. (Updated 4/25/13) |
