Palmer digs Cards' playbook
(4/24/13) Carson Palmer told The Associated Press he's a big fan of Bruce Arians' playbook. He said the Cardinals have installed about 75 percent of the offense from the playbook, but only ran about 5 percent of it during the first workout. Arizona has two more days of this voluntary minicamp and will get a better gauge during a mandatory minicamp in June. "It's very, I guess user-friendly would be the right word," the Cardinals quarterback said of Arians' system. "There's a lot on film to watch, plenty of texts in the playbooks and diagrams, pictures. It is easy to learn. It's not easy, but some systems you get in, it's difficult to learn because there's not a lot of history, but with this, there's a ton of history with this offense and this offense being successful, so it is an easy offense to get used to."
Cardinals tab Lindley Week 12 starter
(11/21/12) Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt named Ryan Lindley the starting quarterback Week 12 vs. St. Louis. Lindley replaced John Skelton Week 11 at Atlanta. Kevin Kolb remains sidelined by a rib injury.
Cardinals to evaluate QB position
(11/19/12) Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said Monday he hasn't made a decision yet about who will be the team's starting quarterback Week 12 vs. St. Louis. John Skelton was replaced by Ryan Lindley during a 23-19 loss Sunday at Atlanta. Whisenhunt said he will sit down with his coaching staff and discuss the situation. Adding a wrinkle to the mix will be the status of quarterback Kevin Kolb, who has missed the last four games due to an injury to his ribs. Whisenhunt said he expects Kolb to practice some this week.
Skelton removed in first half
(11/18/12) After having to settle for field goals on two drives that began on the Falcons' side of the field, the Cardinals opted to bench quarterback John Skelton midway through the second quarter Week 11 at Atlanta. Rookie Ryan Lindley replaced him under center. Skelton completed 2 of 7 passes for 6 yards before leaving. He badly missed a wide-open Larry Fitzgerald in the end zone on one of the drives that resulted in a field goal. "We're in the business of winning games. That's what we have to do," coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "We're going to make the changes that we feel we need to make going forward, and that's what we said we're going to do. We're sticking to that. Like I said, the quarterback is not exempt from that."
Skelton to keep piling up yardage?
(11/14/12) Cardinals quarterback John Skelton, who comes out of the bye averaging 286.0 passing yards over his last three games, has a chance for another strong performance Week 11 at Atlanta. Not only do the Falcons rank a modest 19th against the pass, allowing 235.8 yards per game, but they average 27.4 points per game. If the Cardinals, who average only 16.0 points per game, don't lean heavily on their passing game, they have no chance of pulling out a victory.
