Kap working on speed
(4/10/13) If you're a fan of Colin Kaepernick, you're going to love this: The quarterback has spent part of the offseason working on improving his speed. The Sacramento Bee reports Kaepernick enlisted in the help of former all-American track runner Monica Hargrove to become a more efficient runner. Per the report, he proved stamina isn't an issue as he ran nine straight 150-meter sprints in 18 seconds or less. Kaepernick has also worked on improving his strength this offseason.
Kaepernick already training for '13
(2/19/13) Some players vacation after the season, then get back into workouts after maybe a month. Colin Kaepernick waited nine days before reporting for duty at CES Performance in Atlanta. There, he began working out with the linemen and putting in a workout regimen that included Running, lifting and -- no joke -- tethered swimming. Kaepernick has been training at CES since before he was drafted. "He's definitely not a prima donna," trainer Aaron Roberts told the San Francisco Chronicle. "He's not asking for special treatment. He wants to work out with the linemen, for crying out loud. He wants to get in the mix right off the bat. When I first heard he would be here so soon, I was like, 'OK, man, go take a vacation for a minute.' But I guess he's going to put that on hold."
Kaepernick getting back to work
(2/5/13) After telling the media Tuesday that he'll remember the 2012 season "as not being good enough," Niners quarterback Colin Kaepernick is planning to spend a lot of time this offseason in Atlanta, bringing his receivers in for workouts. Kaepernick plans on beginning that process this week.
Kap can't complete Super finish
(2/4/13) 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick turned in another solid performance as he nearly overcame a 22-point deficit in Super Bowl XLVII against the Ravens. Kaepernick completed 16 of 28 passes for 302 yards with a touchdown and an interception. After getting picked off in the second quarter, he found Michael Crabtree, who bounced off two tacklers for a 31-yard touchdown in the third quarter. He also scored a 15-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter and failed to convert the game-tying two-point conversion. He rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. "I feel like I made too many mistakes for us to win," Kaepernick said. "I think that last drive when we got the ball and had time to go down and score a touchdown, we thought it was our game."
Can Kaepernick solve the Ravens?
(1/31/13) Many people are picking the Ravens to win Super Bowl XLVII because Colin Kaepernick will start only his 10th game ever on Sunday. The lack of experience against a very experienced Baltimore defense is enough for people to believe Kaepernick can't put up big numbers. Those people might be right. Kaepernick hasn't been consistent throughout his run as a starter, including his last five games. Matchups including prime-time games at New England and at Seattle have had varied results as have playoff games vs. Green Bay and at Atlanta. In those last five games Kaepernick has multiple touchdowns in three of them including a pair of four-score contests. He's also rushed for at least 20 yards in four of the five. As a passer Kaepernick has completed 58 percent of his passes in that five-game span for anywhere from 221 yards to 276 yards. He has three interceptions. The Ravens have allowed just one quarterback, Peyton Manning, to total multiple touchdowns on them in their last six games. In matchups against mobile passers like Michael Vick and Robert Griffin III the Ravens allowed plenty of stats through the air (371 yards to Vick, 268 yards to RG3) and multiple touchdowns to both, but neither passer ran for any more than 34 yards against them. In fact, Andrew Luck was the only quarterback to exceed 34 yards vs. the Ravens this year when he had 35 yards in their Wild Card meeting.
| Colin Kaepernick gets the chance to start for the 49ers from Week 1 this year, and there's a lot of optimism for his Fantasy value this season based on his play in 2012 when he took over for the injured Alex Smith. He had five games with at least 18 Fantasy points in seven starts in the regular season, and he carried the 49ers to the Super Bowl with two standout playoff games. If you project Kaepernick's regular-season stats over a full 16-game season he would have finished with 4,146 passing yards, 23 touchdowns and seven interceptions and 948 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. Kaepernick has the look of a No. 1 Fantasy quarterback, and we like him with a pick beginning in Round 6 in the majority of leagues. Since he's unproven, you'll still want to pair him with a quality backup option later (think anyone from Eli Manning to Jay Cutler), but Kaepernick has the look of a standout Fantasy quarterback heading into this season.
