Preseason Outlook

Miller ready for training camp: The Contra Costa Times reports Raiders TE Zach Miller should be fine for training camp. The report says: "Don't worry about Zach Miller. Miller had sports hernia surgery in the offseason, but when he returned, he looked as good and as sure-handed as ever. He should catch 60-plus passes this season."

Fantasy Analysis

This is a good sign, and we want to see Miller at 100 percent for training camp. He should be drafted as a No. 2 Fantasy option, but he has the chance to be a No. 1 TE this year. Take him with a late-round pick as long as he's healthy.

2009 Fantasy outlooks: Oakland Raiders
The Oakland Raiders are a punchline in NFL circles, but the roster is not completely void of talent. Our Jamey Eisenberg expects big things from Darren McFadden and Johnnie Lee Higgins in 2009.

Zach Miller seems on the cusp of becoming a solid Fantasy option. He played well in 2008 with 56 catches for 778 yards and one touchdown, but he needs to find the end zone with more regularity. It would help if JaMarcus Russell was a more consistent passer, but Miller has the chance to be the best receiver for the Raiders. While that might not be saying much, in leagues where receptions count, Miller could end up with 70 catches this season, and that's a nice total. Consider him a borderline No. 1 Fantasy option and take him with a late-round pick after the elite tight ends are gone. He now has some help in the receiving game with the Raiders taking WR Darrius Heyward-Bey with the No. 7 overall selection in the NFL Draft. Miller also has to prove his offseason hernia surgery is not a concern, and he should be fine for training camp. (Updated 5/11/09)
