|Preseason run blocking a concern for Ravens |
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
(8/29/13) Even Ray Rice needs effective run blocking and he won't get it if his offensive line struggles in the regular season to the extent it has in the preseason, offers Pro Football Focus.
Five linemen who have started for the Ravens have received negative run grades from the site, including left guard Kelechi Osemele, centers Gino Gradkowski and A.Q. Shipley, right guard Jah Reid and right tackle Michael Oher. It's no wonder that Rice has averaged a meager 2.9 yards per carry.
Osemele has struggled the most with a minus-6.8 grade that ranks lowest in the NFL at his position among all players who remain on a roster. Osemele started all 16 games in 2012 at tackle before moving to guard in the postseason.
|Ravens center battle a 'very, very competitive situation' |
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
(8/28/13) Although it appears Gino Gradkowski is the favorite to win the job as the starting center for the Ravens, offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell said Monday the competition with A.Q. Shipley is ongoing, according to the Carroll County Times. Both players have shared time with the first-team offense.
"It’s still a very, very competitive situation," Caldwell said. "Obviously nothing’s been determined at this point, so it’s still a battle going on. … It’s a real tight race."
