RG3 says he's taking it slow
(5/9/13) Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III told reporters he's doing great in his recovery from a torn ACL, LCL and meniscus in his right knee. "Knee feels fine," he said. "It's about taking it slow. Each day is a better day."
RG3: I'll be ready to go
(5/1/13) Robert Griffin III did a few jumping jacks, jogged in place and bounced up and down on the stage. The fans cheered. And chanted his name. And cheered some more. For many of the thousands gathered at the stadium, nothing the Redskins did during the three days of the NFL draft meant more than the brief appearance by the franchise player on Saturday. "I'm good. You guys saw me jumping. I mean, I can run a little bit," he said, running in place some more. "I'll be good. No worries. I'll take it slow, but at the same time I'll be ready to go."
Shanahan: RG3 on record pace
| (4/8/13) The Washington Post reports that the glowing reviews of quarterback Robert Griffin IIIs recovery from knee reconstruction continue. Roughly two weeks after team physician James Andrews described Griffin as superhuman in his recovery efforts, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan added more praise for the quarterback. Friday evening in an interview with NFL Network, Shanahan said he expects Griffin to make an unprecedented comeback from Januarys surgery to repair a torn ACL, LCL and meniscus. Hes over at the facility, rehabbing all of the time. Hell set a record for coming back because thats how hard he works, Shanahan said, adding that Griffin is further along that what is normally expected at this point. He added, however, that the Redskins wont know exactly how realistic the Week 1 return goal is until late this summer. He is ahead, but there is a process, Shanahan said. It takes time. Robert will do it the right way and well find out in July exactly where hes at.
He will not come back until hes 100 percent. |
RG3 set to start running
(4/1/13) According to Robert Griffin Jr., son Robert Griffin III is expected to get clearance to begin running within the next week. The Redskins' quarterback is recovering from reconstruction surgery of the ACL, LCL and meniscus in his right knee. "He's been running in the pool, and some on the treadmill," Griffin Jr. told the Washington Post. "But they're just about ready to take it out on the field."
Davis says RG3 looks great
(3/22/13) Free agent tight end Fred Davis told Comcast Sportsnet that he's marveled at Robert Griffin III's recovery from reconstruction surgery of the ACL, LCL and meniscus in his right knee. The two have worked out together. "He definitely looks really good," Davis said of RG3. "You can barely even tell that he's hurt. He's doing every drill. He looks comfortable and normal to me. When he first got back, I was surprised, like, 'Did you just have surgery?' He works hard. Whenever he says hes going to do something, hes going to do it. I believe that hell be back sooner than people expect."
Robert Griffin III is a wild card for Fantasy owners this season. He had surgery to repair a torn ACL, MCL and meniscus in January, and he’s hoping to be ready by Week 1. If that happens, then Griffin could have an Adrian Peterson-like impact this year in his comeback from knee surgery. But if Griffin isn’t ready by Week 1 or suffers a setback with his knee, then depending on when you draft he could be a bust. We consider Griffin a low-end starting option coming into the year based on the uncertainty. No matter what you do with Griffin, you better back him up with a quality No. 2 quarterback (think Eli Manning, Ben Roethlisberger or Jay Cutler, for example) in case he doesn’t recover at 100 percent. When healthy, Griffin was a star as he showed last year with 344 Fantasy points, which made him the No. 7 quarterback in standard leagues. He averaged 22.9 points a week, something only four other quarterbacks (Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning) did last year, and we hope Griffin can make a full recovery without any problems. Gamble on him with a pick as early as Round 5 or 6. (Updated 4/26/13)
