|Jerod Mayo suggests he'll be ready for training camp |
|by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com|
(5/6/14) Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo, who's coming back from a torn pectoral muscle, suggested he'll return for training camp in July, reports the Boston Herald. He's been working out at Gillette Stadium for a while.
"I don’t know how it will feel when we start going out there doing different things as far as a little bit of contact drills," Mayo said. "Even though there are no pads, you can still fall a certain way, so I’m just going to take it one day at a time and see how it goes."
Mayo is feeling stronger very day. "But once again, I won’t know until I get out there and start really playing the game of football," he said.
|Jerod Mayo is coming back from a torn pectoral muscle, but he's expected to be ready for training camp. He ended his 2013 season on injured reserve after six games when he got hurt, and he finished the year with 55 total tackles (35 solo), 1.5 sacks and one fumble recovery. Mayo was a top-end Fantasy linebacker prior to getting hurt. He had 148 total tackles (88 solo) in 2012 with three sacks, one interception, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and three pass defenses, and that's what he's capable of. Mayo had over 95 tackles in all five seasons in the NFL prior to 2013, and he should once again anchor the New England defense. Plan on drafting Mayo with a mid-round pick this year and look for him to shine for the Patriots and Fantasy owners again.
