'Take it to the bank' Weeden starts: NFL Films Senior Producer Greg Cosell said on the FantasyGuru.com podcast that you can "take it to the bank" that Brandon Weeden will start for the Browns to begin the year. Weeden figures to have a jump on the starting job ahead of newcomer Jason Campbell.

Coach Rob Chudzinski has spoken often about competition for the job but per the network he and offensive coordinator Norv Turner are more excited by Weeden's arm and ability to throw deep. Weeden has the make-up of the kind of quarterback offensive coordinator Norv Turner can work with but he is by no means the long-term solution for Cleveland. No one should draft Weeden outside of with a late pick in the deepest of leagues.

| Brandon Weeden is expected to compete for the starting quarterback job in training camp this summer. He'll learn a new offense, one that calls for a lot of downfield passing. To be effective, Weeden will need a lot of work. He completed just 57.4 percent of his passes last season, including 47 percent that went more than 10 yards. Part of that has to do with an inexperienced receiving corps, but truthfully Weeden wasn't very effective. The only Fantasy owners willing to draft Weeden will be Oklahoma State fans and owners in leagues that start multiple quarterbacks. In most standard leagues Weeden will be an afterthought on Draft Day and a one-week replacement option off waivers during the year. (Updated 4/26/13) |
