Palmer trade is official
(4/2/13) The trade between the Cardinals and Raiders for quarterback Carson Palmer is official. The Cards will send a sixth-round pick to the Raiders for their seventh-round pick this year along with Palmer, plus the Raiders will get a seventh-round pick in the 2014 draft from the Cardinals if Palmer starts 13 games. Palmer had a so-so 2012, throwing for 4,018 yards over 15 games with 22 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
Raiders 'moving forward' from Palmer
(4/2/13) Raiders coach Dennis Allen told the Oakland Tribune that the team's plans with quarterback Carson Palmer have changed. Without saying a trade or a release is imminent, Allen made it clear Palmer isn't in their future. "When we looked at it, both from his standpoint and our standpoint, we just realized that it was time for us to move on and move forward," Allen said. "I talked to Carson probably Saturday, over the weekend, and kind of explained to him, where we were at, what the process was. He and his representation totally understand where we’re at." Palmer had dinner with Cardinals executives on Monday, the Arizona Republic said.
La Canfora: Palmer trade hits snag
(4/1/13) CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports Monday that the trade that would send Carson Palmer to the Cardinals has "hit a snag" in the negotiations, according to a source. La Canfora was unsure if the snag can be overcome at this point. Earlier Monday, the Cardinals cut John Skelton in anticipation of bringing in Palmer.
Palmer a match with Cards?
(4/1/13) After Sports Illustrated believed it was "inevitable" Palmer would end up getting traded to Arizona from Oakland, FOX Sports reported Monday that a deal is expected between the two sides. The Raiders are reportedly working to finalize the trade, believed to be a fourth- or fifth-round pick for the quarterback though ESPN believes the compensation will be far less. Palmer would then restructure his contract with the Cardinals.
Palmer might want out of Oakland
(3/28/13) Yahoo! Sports reports Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer might not be willing to take a pay cut because he wants Oakland to release him. The report says the "quarterback's decision, according to three sources familiar with Palmer's mindset, is based on a sense that Oakland's prospects for success in 2013 are so bleak that money is no longer the predominant factor in his thought process." Palmer's rejection of the Raiders' proposal could lead him to the Arizona Cardinals, who are in the market for a starting quarterback, or possibly put him on the path to becoming a backup for a contending team. Whereas Palmer's return to the Raiders seemed like a given just a few weeks ago, there's an increasing sense both inside the organization and in Palmer's camp that a divorce is imminent. "Carson isn't 28, and he doesn't know how much time he has left," one source close to Palmer said Wednesday. "Does he want to be with a team that is clearly rebuilding and looks like it's a long way away from contending, where he doesn't have a whole lot around him? He's gotten to play a lot in his career, but he hasn't gotten to experience a lot of winning. At this point, I think being somewhere where they have a chance to win is the most important thing."
