Locker 'back to normal'
(5/14/13) The Titans official website reports that quarterback Jake Locker said his left shoulder “feels like its back to normal” and he will “definitely” be cleared for contact at training camp in late July. Locker’s injury last season and backup status in 2011 has translated into only 16 games played with 11 starts over his first two NFL seasons — not a large body of work for evaluation. Despite the injuries and playing behind a depleted offensive line a year ago, Locker has thrown for 2,718 yards and 14 touchdowns vs. 11 interceptions. He improved his completion percentage from 51.5 in 2011 to 56.4 in 2012 and ran for 291 yards and a TD last season. Locker admits he “can improve in a lot of areas” as he looks to become more consistent and find ways to keep the offense on the field in 2013. “I go out and I’m always trying to get the best out of myself no matter what the situation,” he said. “It won’t be any different for me, I won’t approach it any different. I’m just excited about this season.”
Locker ready for camp, new offense
(4/22/13) Titans quarterback Jake Locker told the media Monday his shoulder feels fine and will participate in the squad's June minicamp. After visiting with his doctor last week he's been cleared for everything except contact. Locker had left shoulder surgery in January to fix several dislocations suffered last season. Locker also touched on the Titans adding the read-option as a new wrinkle to their offense. "I am making sure that I ease back into a little bit so if I am doing some kind of overcompensating with my right arm I am not going to go out and do something to hurt it and set me back," Locker said. "I am just being smart with how I kind of get back into it whether I feel good or not."
Munchak confident in Locker
(3/19/13) Titans coach Mike Munchak said Tuesday at the NFL owners meeting in Phoenix that he remains confident in quarterback Jake Locker as his starter. "For us, for me, it’s just stay healthy so we can see where he’s at," Munchak said. "We feel really good about him. Obviously we wouldn’t have drafted him if we didn’t feel he had all these traits to be a special quarterback that, in my opinion, he hasn’t had a chance to show yet. ... He’s ready to go. He knows what’s ahead of him. He knows the challenge. It’s just him working hard now. I think we have the pieces around him that will help him be successful. That’s all we can do. Now it’s a matter of letting it unfold with him coming into camp being the guy. Let him feel what it’s like. There’s no competition. It’s his ball, let him run with it and see what he can do."
Locker: Don't question my accuracy
(3/8/13) Much has been made of Jake Locker's accuracy since his days as the starter for the University of Washington. A good player with mobility and a strong arm, Locker hasn't completed even 60 percent of his passes for six straight years (four in college, two with the Titans). The Tennessean reports Locker is fine with the low completion percentage. "Overall, I don't think that's an issue of accuracy," Locker said. "It's just understanding the situations you’re in, when you can take checkdowns, when you can force it down the field. Those are things that can improve the completion percentage, rather than just overall accuracy and missing throws. So I think it’s just understanding the game a little more. It's not that I don’t want to improve my completion percentages. I think everyone is always working toward that. That would be ridiculous to think (otherwise)."
GM: Locker should be OK for minicamp
(2/21/13) Titans general manager Ruston Webster told The Tennessean that quarterback Jake Locker should be ready for June minicamps. Locker is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
