Preseason Outlook

Coughlin: Jacobs will be ready: Giants coach Tom Coughlin expects halfback Brandon Jacobs, the team's leading rusher, to be ready to play in the Divisional Playoffs in two weeks. Jacobs was inactive at Minnesota in Week 17, nursing an injured knee. "It's leaning towards Brandon being able to practice later this week," Coughlin said. "He's making progress and we're counting on him to play. The rest is going to do him good, but I'd like to see him with some solid practice time this week."

Fantasy Analysis

Count on Jacobs to be ready for the Divisional Playoffs. With that being the case, consider Jacobs a No. 1 option for the postseason. As for next year, he'll enter the offseason as a free agent but will likely get slapped with the franchise tag and stay with the Giants. He'll be a low-end No. 1/top-end No. 2 Fantasy RB, albeit an injury risk.

The New York Giants gave the Minnesota Vikings a break by putting four starters on the inactive list Sunday: running back Brandon Jacobs, tight end Kevin Boss, defensive tackle Barry Cofield and cornerback Aaron Ross.

Giants RB Brandon Jacobs is ready to play a full season after missing time last year with knee and wrist injuries. Jacobs, who will be in a contract year in 2008, has a running style that leads to him getting hurt, but he's also a bruising back who has decent hands. Last year was his first as a starter, and he will face competition for carries from Derrick Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw, but Jacobs will be given the majority of touches. You can expect around 1,300 total yards and at least six touchdowns from Jacobs, making him a solid No. 2 Fantasy RB worth taking somewhere in the third round of most Fantasy drafts.
