Preseason Outlook

Eagles trade for Hobbs: The New England Patriots have traded veteran CB Ellis Hobbs to the Philadelphia Eagles for two draft picks. Hobbs, who started for the Patriots last season, will rejoin former teammate Assante Samuel in the Philadelphia secondary. New England receives a pair of fifth-round picks in Sunday's NFL draft, the 137th and 141st overall picks.

Fantasy Analysis

Hobbs will remain a No. 3 DB with the Eagles, who went after Hobbs to replace the departed Lito Sheppard. Hobbs will compete with Sheldon Brown and could start opposite Samuel. This makes the Eagles DST that much better, and they should remain a No. 1 unit this year.

Eagles CB Brown skips workout to make contract statement
Disgruntled Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Sheldon Brown didn't attend the voluntary team workout on Tuesday.

Patriots DB Ellis Hobbs stepped up as the No. 1 cover corner for New England with Asante Samuel off to Philadelphia as a free agent. Hobbs played well with 47 tackles (39 solo), three interceptions and two sacks. He should be considered a No. 3 DB in IDP leagues and is worth taking with a late-round pick, especially if special-teams touchdowns count. (Updated 3/6/09)
