Owner backs Sanchez: The New York Daily News reports that Jets owner Woody Johnson said Thursday he stands behind QB Mark Sanchez heading into 2012. Several key players and members of the organization questioned Sanchez’s leadership, his work habits on the practice field and the organization’s coddling of the quarterback. “You always try to take care of your quarterback,” Johnson said. “They probably coddle Tom Brady and all the other great quarterbacks in the league as well. Do we overprotect Mark? I don’t think we do. He’s the obviously a critical part of the team. So you spend more time with him. Is that coddling? I don’t know ... I have a lot of confidence in Mark Sanchez. “Despite some of the reports, he’s a very hard worker. He can do everything that you want a quarterback to do. When he has the confidence, which I think he’ll have this year ... he’s had a lot of success in his life. This is probably one of the first years where he’s experienced the New York way. My feeling is that Mark is the kind of guy that will learn from this. We’re going to try to make the offense maybe a little more suitable for what Mark’s development is.” (Updated 01/19/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Sanchez's numbers -- 3,474 yards on a career-best 56.7 pct. passing with 26 touchdowns and 18 interceptions and eight fumbles lost with six rushing touchdowns -- were the best he's ever had. In fact, Fantasy owners might be shocked to know he finished as the 10th best quarterback in Fantasy Football in standard leagues ahead of Michael Vick, Ben Roethlisberger and Tim Tebow. Still, despite his production in 2011, he should only be considered a No. 2 Fantasy QB in 2012, and he is worth drafting with a late-round pick. (Updated 01/19/2012).
