Mark Sanchez shows matchup matters

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5:16 pm ET) Couple off a couple poor performances, including a 96-yard effort against the mighty Seahawks in Week 14, Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez was able to take advantage of a favorable matchup Week 16 at Washington, throwing for a season-high 374 yards on 37-of-50 passing. He had two touchdown passes and one interception.

Of course, that was against a defense that has now allowed 33 touchdown passes while recording just six interceptions. Not surprisingly, the Redskins have surrendered the highest passer rating to opposing quarterbacks this season.

When you look at it that way, it's almost disappointing Sanchez had just two touchdown passes while still throwing an interception. Since taking over for an injured Nick Foles in Week 9, he has only two more touchdown passes (12) than interceptions (10), so for all the yardage he piles up on a prolific offense, he's still in many ways the unstable quarterback who used to start for the Jets.

He's capable of taking advantage of a favorable matchup, of course, but his matchup Week 17 against Dallas isn't so favorable that you should automatically start him in Fantasy. In standard 12-team leagues, you can probably do better.

Late INT proves to be costly for Mark Sanchez, Eagles

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/20/14) Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez threw a costly interception that may have ruined Philadelphia's postseason hopes in a Week 16 loss to Washington.

Sanchez had a chance to break a 24-all tie but was picked off by Bashaud Breeland with 1:36 remaining in the game. He also lost a fumble on the opening drive of the game. Sanchez hooked up with Riley Cooper for a 3-yard score in the second quarter and again for 16-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

He compiled 374 yards through the air while completing 37 of 50 pass attempts. He added two touchdowns and one interception, registering a 99.9 passer rating in a 27-24 defeat.

With the loss, the Eagles need to win their final game against the Giants and have Dallas lose the final two games of the season in order to make the postseason.

Report: QB Nick Foles' collarbone only 70 percent healed

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/16/14) Eagles quarterback Nick Foles' broken collarbone is only 70 percent healed, and there's no way he'll play in either of the team's final two regular-season games, reports Sportsradio 94WIP. Foles suffered the injury Week 9.

Per the report, Mark Sanchez will finish out the regular season and Foles would only have a chance to return if Philly makes the playoffs.

Maybe Mark Sanchez not worth the trouble

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/15/14) When Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez threw for just 96 yards against the Seahawks in Week 14 after averaging 300.5 in his first four starts in place of Nick Foles, it was thought to be just a product of the matchup. After all, the Seahawks had allowed an average of 116.0 passing yards in their previous three games, looking once again like a world championship-caliber defense.

But with what seemed like a favorable matchup Week 15 against Dallas, a team that entered the week ranked 25th against the pass, Sanchez again laid an egg, but a different kind. He threw two interceptions with no touchdown passes, completing 17 of 28 passes for 252 yards.

Looking back at his numbers, Sanchez still seems to be as mistake-prone as ever. For all the success he's had replacing Foles, he has just 10 touchdown passes to nine interceptions. He's thrown two picks in four of his seven games this year.

The Eagles offense is prolific enough that he figures to have good yardage when he's not facing the Seahawks, but the interceptions could keep him from performing like a top-12 quarterback down the stretch. Of course, he's facing the Redskins in Week 16, who've allowed the most Fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season, but just how willing are you to gamble on something like that this time of year?

Eagles QB Mark Sanchez throws two picks in loss vs. Cowboys

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12/15/14) Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez completed 17 of his 28 passes for 252 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in his team's 38-27 loss to the Cowboys in Week 15.

Sanchez did a good job of bringing the Eagles back from the brink of a blowout loss after falling behind 21-0 in the second quarter but also contributed two of the team's four turnovers. It's the first time in his seven games this season that Sanchez has failed to throw a touchdown. He'll be looking for a big rebound performance when the Eagles face the Redskins in Week 16.
