Preseason Outlook

Tomlin confirms Mendenhall ACL tear: Speaking on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that Rashard Mendenhall suffered a torn ACL in Week 17 and will miss the rest of the postseason. he has been placed on injured reserve. Isaac Redman will be the primary rusher and starter for the Steelers in the playoffs. "We got it looked at and confirmed yesterday," Tomlin said. "We expect Rashard to attack that like he attacks everything else. We expect him to bounce back from it." (Updated 01/03/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
It's a tough road for Mendenhall starting with surgery in the near future and several months of rehabilitation. After helping the Steelers get to the Super Bowl last year, he struggled to be a dominant rusher in 2011, failing to rush for 1,000 yards although he did score nine times (many at Heinz Field). We were hoping Mendenhall would rebound in 2012, but this knee injury is going to limit his value, not to mention force the Steelers to add depth to their running back corps. We'll keep tabs on his progress, but expect Mendenhall to get drafted likely as a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy RB -- and that's assuming he can get into a preseason game or two and be ready to roll for the start of next season. His value is now quite limited in keeper formats, and he should not be used in any Fantasy playoff challenges. (Updated 01/03/2012).
