Fantasy Analysis
McCourty has delivered some nice tackle totals for a cornerback in his two-year career -- at least 80 per season. That number should at least stabilize if he moves to safety, though there are some concerns that he won't hold up for 16 games if he moves to safety (he missed two games last year with a shoulder injury). If the move becomes official, McCourty would be worth drafting with a middle-round pick as a No. 2 DB. (Updated 04/26/2012).
Devin McCourty was a breakout player as a rookie in 2010, but he regressed in 2011 and will look to rebound this year. McCourty had seven interceptions, one sack and 85 total tackles (72 solo) as a rookie in 2010, but he had somewhat of a sophomore slump last year with his interception total falling to two. Part of that had to do with teams shying away from McCourty, but he still managed 87 total tackles (65 solo). We expect McCourty to play well this season, and he should be considered at least a No. 3 DB in IDP leagues. Plan on drafting McCourty with a late-round pick, and hopefully he can record another big year when it comes to his interception and tackle total. (Updated 4/25/12)
