|Devin McCourty not thinking about extension |
|by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com|
(2/25/14) Patriots safety Devin McCourty is a strong candidate for an extension this offseason, but he said it's not on his mind, reports the Boston Herald. McCourty has one year left on his rookie deal.
"I don’t even think about it," McCourty told the paper. "Just go out and play football, and I truly believe the rest will just take care of itself."
|Devin McCourty hopes to remain Aqib Talib's teammate |
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
(1/29/14) Patriots safety Devin McCourty is hoping he hasn't played his last game alongside secondary mate Aqib Talib. The cornerback is slated to be a free agent after playing for $5.5 million in 2013.
"It's a business, so both sides have to come to an agreement," McCourty told the Boston Herald. "Even if you say both sides want it to work, that doesn't always mean that's what is going to happen. Aqib has been a good friend of mine now. I've gotten to know him, and I hope he is back."
The knee Talib injured in the AFC Championship game is not expected to require surgery.
|Devin McCourty was moved to safety for the Patriots in 2012 and played at a high level. He had 82 total tackles (65 solo) with one sack, five interceptions, 13 pass defenses and one forced fumble. He now has two years in his past three with at least five interceptions and three years in a row with at least 80 total tackles. McCourty should be considered a solid starting option in all IDP leagues, and we would draft him with a late-round pick. (Updated 4/26/13) |
