Bennett doing well early on
by Jamey Eisenberg \| Senior Fantasy Writer (4/22/13) The Chicago Sun-Times reports that new Bears tight end Martellus Bennett is making a good impression early on. ‘‘He’s a student,” Bears tight end coach Andy Bischoff said. ‘‘He’s writing everything down. He’s asking questions. He wants to be coached. Really, in every possible way, he’s been a joy." Bennett signed a four-year deal to be the versatile, pass-catching threat the Bears didn’t have at tight end the last two seasons. ‘‘He’s often involved in suggestions and mentorship in the right way," Bischoff said. ‘‘He’s not overstepping the guidelines of a coach, but really just reinforcing the player. He’s been a leader. He wants to be the leader of that group. He’s been doing it quietly. The personality comes out in non-football-related deals. He’s been wonderful."

Bennett to 'create stress'
by Dave Richard \| Senior Fantasy Writer (3/13/13) When the Bears introduced their assistant coaches, tight ends coach Andy Bischoff made it a point to describe what he wanted out of his starter -- a do-it-all guy who is a receiver first. "We need a tight end that can threaten the defense. We need a tight end that can create stress in the middle of the field or wherever we place him because we're going to line him up next to the tackle," Bischoff said per ESPN. "We're going to line him up outside the numbers. We're going to line up in the backfield, and we're going to expect the defense to figure it out. So we need a receiver who can catch the ball, and we need a receiver who can block enough to be lined up in the backfield if we put him there. The days of the tight end that blocked and ran flat routes in this league are coming to an end. The guys that just run 3-yard flat routes, that's not going to do anything for you."

Bennett signs four-year deal with Bears

Bennett said as much on Twitter when free agency kicked off. Bennett set career-highs with 55 receptions for 626 yards and five touchdowns last year when given a chance to play on a regular basis.

Giants hoping to keep Bennett
