|Jairus Byrd makes impact in first game with Saints |
|by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer|
(9/7/14) Defensive back Jairus Byrd, who is beginning his first year with the Saints after spending the last five with the Bills, made his presence known Week 1 at Atlanta, stripping the ball from wide receiver Julio Jones late in the first quarter. Teammate Corey White recovered the fumble. Byrd also had five tackles, all solo.
|Bills DST looking at rough Week 1 matchup |
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
(9/4/14) The Bills have a tall order ahead defensively in Week 1 when they head to Chicago to take on the Bears.
Buffalo is still a good unit overall, one that should be able to record a good number of sacks over the course of the season and perhaps deliver solid turnover statistics with two quality cornerbacks in Stephon Gilmore and Leodis McKelvin. However, the team also lost Jairus Byrd in the offseason and will be looking to replace him internally. They lost star linebacker Kiko Alonso to a season-ending injury, and they won't have Nigel Bradham in this matchup due to a suspension.
Against a mediocre offense, those concerns may not be enough to shy away from them in Fantasy leagues. However, the Bills have to face a Bears offense that ranked eighth in the league in yardage and second in total points last season. The Bears retain all of their elite playmakers from last year, and while the team's cornerbacks may be able to have success bottling up big-play threat Alshon Jeffery, they likely won't have an answer for Brandon Marshall, Matt Forte and Martellus Bennett.
There will be weeks worth starting the Bills defense, but this is not one of them.
|Jairus Byrd back at practice |

(8/15/14) The Saints will be without the following players for Friday's preseason game against the Titans: Drew Brees, Marques Colston, Champ Bailey, Rod Sweeting, Erik Lorig, David Hawthorne, Kyle Knox, Ben Grubbs, Jahri Evans, Ty Nsekhe, Victor Butler, John Jenkins, Kenny Stills, Je'Ron Hamm, Patrick Robinson and Jairus Byrd.
|Drew Brees, Jairus Byrd sit out exhibition opener |
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
(8/8/14) Saints quarterback Drew Brees worked out with newly-acquired safety Jairus Byrd on the field prior to Friday's preseason opener against the Rams in St. Louis. Both players were held out for precautionary reasons, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Brees has missed practices as of late because of a strained oblique, while Byrd has been recovering from offseason back surgery.
|Jairus Byrd moves from Buffalo to New Orleans this season, and hopefully he will continue to create turnovers for the Saints. Byrd has 22 interceptions and 11 forced fumbles in his career, and if his tackle totals can increase -- he had just 48 total in 2012, his lowest since 2009 -- then his Fantasy value will rise. Byrd had over 85 tackles in 2010 and 2011, so the potential is there. We consider Byrd a No. 3 Fantasy defensive back coming into the season, and he's worth drafting with a late-round pick in all IDP formats.
