News: The Vikings have re-signed defensive tackle Fred Evans.
Analysis: Evans isn't expected to be productive enough to warrant Fantasy use. Keep him off of Fantasy rosters.
News: The Minnesota Vikings have re-signed restricted free agents Ryan Cook, Fred Evans and Eric Frampton. Evans is a key backup at defensive tackle behind starters Kevin and Pat Williams. He will earn almost $1.8 million after signing the second-round tender the team placed on him. Cook is a swing player on the offensive line, with the ability to play guard, center and tackle. He was a regular starter at right tackle early in his career but has since been supplanted by Phil Loadholt. With top reserve Artis Hicks signing in Washington, Cook's versatility will be needed next season. Frampton is a safety who plays primarily on special teams.
Analysis: Evans isn't expected to be productive enough to warrant Fantasy use. Keep him off of Fantasy rosters.
News: The Vikings' list of inactives for Week 13 at Arizona includes QB Sage Rosenfels, WR Jaymar Johnson, DB Antoine Winfield, RB Albert Young, LB Erin Henderson, DL Fred Evans and DL Jayme Mitchell.
Analysis: Winfield is an excellent tackler for a defensive back and worth starting in IDP leagues when healthy, but he hasn't played since Week 6 because of a foot injury. None of these other players does enough statistically to make an impact in Fantasy.
News: Minnesota has listed the following players as inactive for Week 11 against the Seahawks: QB Sage Rosenfels (3rd QB), WR Jaymar Johnson, DB Antoine Winfield, RB Albert Young, LB Erin Henderson, DL Fred Evans and DL Jayme Mitchell.
Analysis: Winfield has the ability to play like a No. 2 Fantasy IDP option as a DB, when healthy. The rest of the players above can be left off Fantasy rosters at this time.
News: Defensive tackle Fred Evans signed his one-year tender to return to the Vikings on Monday. The Vikings put a second-round tender on the restricted free agent in February. That means they would have been awarded a second-round draft pick if another team signed him. Evans served as the primary backup to Pro Bowler Pat Williams last season. He started the final two regular season games and the playoff game against Philadelphia while Williams worked through legal problems and an injury. The Vikings almost had to bring Evans back because Williams' challenge of a positive drug test has yet to be resolved in court. If he loses his case, he and fellow tackle Kevin Williams will be suspended for the first four games of next season.
Analysis: Evans isn't expected to be productive enough to warrant Fantasy use. Keep him off of Fantasy rosters.
News: The Vikings tendered restricted free agents Fred Evans and Naufahu Tahi. By making qualifying offers, the team reserves the right to match an offer sheet either player signs with another team. Evans was a regular on the defensive line. He started the final two games of the regular season and the playoff loss to Philadelphia in place of the injured Pat Williams. Retaining Evans would also help the Vikings should Williams lose his court battle with the NFL over a positive test for a banned diuretic. If Williams does not win the case, he will be suspended for the first four games of next season. Tahi beat out Thomas Tapeh for the starting fullback job early in the regular season.
Analysis: Neither player is productive enough on a regular basis to warrant Fantasy use. Keep both off of Fantasy rosters.
News: On Tuesday afternoon, the NFL announced the suspensions for six players who violated the NFL's Policy on Anabolic Steroids and Related Substances. Those players are Saints RB Deuce McAllister, DE Will Smith and DT Charles Grant, Vikings DTs Pat Williams and Kevin Williams and Texans LS Bryan Pittman. All of these players are suspended through the end of the NFL's 2008 regular season and are eligible to return for the playoffs this year if their team advances that far. In a statement, the NFL said that "the players specifically violated a longstanding provision of the policy relating to the use of diuretics and water pills, which serve as masking agents for steroids and are potentially dangerous to the health of players. The policy states that the use of so-called 'blocking' or 'masking' agents, including diuretics and water pills, is prohibited and that a positive test will not be excused because it results from the use of a dietary supplement that unknowingly contained a banned substance. Supplements are not regulated or monitored by the government and players have been warned about the risks of supplement use."
Analysis: Pat and Kevin Williams are no longer usable Fantasy options for the rest of the regular season since they'll be sidelined with the suspension. They will likely be replaced by Fred Evans and Ellis Wyms, who have been serviceable defensive linemen in the past but not nearly as effective as they were. Consider other options in IDP leagues going forward.
News: Vikings DL Fred Evans returned from his two-game suspension Week 15 against the Bears. He didn't record a statistic.
Analysis: Evans doesn't post enough stats to warrant use in Fantasy play. Leave him on waivers.
News: The NFL has suspended Vikings DL Fred Evans for two games for violating the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy. He is eligible to return in Week 15 vs. Chicago.
Analysis: Evans doesn't post enough stats to warrant use in Fantasy play, so his suspension shouldn't bother any owners out there.
News: Notable inactives for the Packers-Vikings Week 4 matchup include: Packers DB Frank Walker, LB Desmond Bishop, DL Justin Harrell, DL Daniel Muir, DL Mike Montgomery and RB Brandon Jackson. For the Vikings, QB Tarvaris Jackson (No. 3/emergency QB), WR Aundrae Allison, DL Fred Evans, DB Ronyell Whitaker, RB Mewelde Moore, FB Garrett Mills and DL Erasmus James are inactive.
Analysis: DeShawn Wynn will start at running back for the Packers, but Vernand Morency is expected to play as well. Neither one should put a dent in that Vikings run defense, though. Kelly Holcomb will start at QB for the Vikings, and Moore's inactivity is based on Chester Taylor's return to the Vikings' lineup -- he will start and take some of Adrian Peterson's reps. The rest of the players listed aren't reliable Fantasy players.
News: Vikings TE Garrett Mills, RB Tony Richardson and DL Fred Evans are all inactive for Week 3 at Kansas City.
Analysis: None of these players are solid Fantasy contributors when healthy. Keep them reserved in all Fantasy formats for Week 3.
News: The Vikings' list of Week 2 inactives for Sunday's game at Detroit includes QB Kelly Holcomb, DB Mike Doss, TE Garrett Mills, RB Tony Richardson, DL Fred Evans and DL Erasmus James.
Analysis: These players are all either reserves or starters who don't contribute meaningful statistics. None deserve consideration in Fantasy leagues.
News: The Vikings placed rookie linebacker Rufus Alexander on injured reserve after he tore a ligament in his left knee against the Rams and signed free agent defensive tackle Fred Evans. Evans was waived by the Dolphins after being arrested on June 23 for allegedly refusing to leave a taxi on South Beach and fighting with officers. "I've been blessed with another opportunity, which I feel I should have, and I want to take advantage of that," Evans said.
Analysis: As a defensive tackle, Evans won't put up much in the way of stats and should be considered a poor pick in Fantasy play.
News: Dolphins DT Fred Evans, arrested over the weekend for refusing to leave a taxi on South Beach and for fighting with officers, was released by the team Thursday. Evans played in one game as a rookie last season with the Dolphins. Police twice used a Taser gun Saturday on Evans in an attempt to subdue the 6-foot-4, 305-pound player, according to the arrest report. "We will not condone this type of behavior," Dolphins coach Cam Cameron said in a statement released Saturday. "I assure everyone it will be dealt with seriously."
Analysis: Evans is subject to a suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy. He doesn't post enough stats to warrant use in Fantasy play anyway.
News: Dolphins defensive tackle Fred Evans was arrested early Saturday after he refused to leave a taxi on South Beach and then fought with officers, police said. Police twice used a Taser gun on Evans, according to the arrest report, in attempts to subdue the 6-foot-4, 305-pound player who appeared in one game as a rookie last season with the Dolphins. Officers said they asked Evans to leave the taxi and, after he refused, they attempted to put him in handcuffs. He allegedly resisted, leading to the scuffle. Evans was charged with multiple counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting with violence, along with single counts of disorderly intoxication and trespassing. One officer was allegedly bitten on the wrist and a female officer sustained scrapes on her left knee, police said. Dolphins coach Cam Cameron, in a brief statement, said the team was aware of Evans' arrest. "We will not condone this type of behavior," Cameron said. "I assure everyone it will be dealt with seriously."
Analysis: Evans is subject to a suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy. He doesn't post enough stats to warrant use in Fantasy play anyway.
News: WR Marty Booker (ankle), RB Patrick Cobbs, DL Fred Evans, 3QB Shane Matthews, LB Robert McCune, OG Dan Stevenson and DL Kevin Vickerson were inactive for Week 16 against the Jets.
Analysis: Only Booker is worth using in Week 17 at Indianapolis in Fantasy leagues if he can play. None of the players are useful as keepers heading into 2007.

Analysis: Keep all these players reserved for Week 15.

Analysis: None of these players had any Fantasy value at this time, including Culpepper, who might be headed to injured reserve.
News: Dolphins QB Daunte Culpepper was not the third QB for Miami against Green Bay but instead was inactive. The other Miami inactives are: DB Travis Daniels, LB Keith Adams, DL Fred Evans, TE Tim Massaquoi, DL Kevin Vickerson and WR Marcus Vick. Vick also was listed as the third QB.

Analysis: Evans may make his way to the practice squad before the end of the regular season. He should not be drafted for Fantasy purposes.
