News: The Chiefs announced on Tuesday that LB Corey Mays has signed his restricted free agent tender. Mays has played in 48 games (14 starts) with New England (2006-07), Cincinnati (2007-08) and Kansas City (2009). He has recorded 116 tackles (71 solo), a pass defensed, a forced fumble, one fumble recovery, four QB pressures and 40 special teams tackles. Mays played in 16 games (13 starts) for Kansas City in 2009, ranking second on the squad with a career-high 100 tackles (64 solo). He also added a pass defensed and four QB pressures.
Analysis: Mays has minimal Fantasy value in IDP leagues. Ignore him on Draft Day this summer.
News: Chiefs DB Mike Brown (13 tackles), LB Demorrio Williams (nine tackles), LB Corey Mays (six tackles), DL Tyson Jackson (six tackles) and DB Jon McGraw (three tackles, interception) all played well in a Week 16 loss at Cincinnati.
Analysis: The Chiefs don't have many Fantasy-viable options on their defense, with Williams and Brown the only guys on the team worth using in deeper leagues heading into Week 17 at Denver.
News: The Chiefs defense certainly struggled on Sunday against the Chiefs in a 43-14 loss. However, there were a few decent individual performances. Demorrio Williams led the team in tackling, racking up nine tackles. Brandon Flowers had five tackles in the game, also forcing a fumble. Corey Mays and Jon McGraw tied for second on the team in tackles with seven.
Analysis: The Chiefs defense doesnt have too many playmakers on it and no one on the Chiefs defense is more than a low-end Fantasy option in IDP formats. The Chiefs take on the Broncos in Week 13.
News: Chiefs defenders who gave a helping hand in Week 6 vs. the Cowboys include: LB Corey Mays (nine total tackles), LB Demorrio Williams (seven total tackles) and DL Wallace Gilberry (solo tackle, sack).
Analysis: Mays is worth a look off waivers in deeper IDP leagues, as is Williams. Gilberry shouldn't be on any Fantasy rosters. The Chiefs play at the Redskins in Week 6.
News: The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to terms with free agent linebacker Corey Mays. The team announced the deal Friday. Mays played in 32 games, including one start, during two seasons with New England and Cincinnati. He tallied 16 tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and 38 special teams tackles. The former Notre Dame player and second-team All-American entered the NFL in 2006 as a rookie free agent with the Patriots.
Analysis: Mays isn't expected to produce enough stats to warrant Fantasy use. Keep him off of rosters.
News: The Bengals tried to keep linebackers Brandon Johnson and Rashad Jeanty by turning them into restricted free agents on Thursday. The Bengals tendered contract offers to the linebackers that gives them the right to match any offer. If the Bengals decide not to match another team's offer, they get a second-round draft pick as compensation. The team decided not to make tender offers to running back DeDe Dorsey, receiver Glenn Holt, linebacker Corey Mays and safety John Busing, allowing them to become free agents.
Analysis: Chances are all of these players will be fighting for jobs in 2009. That said, none can be considered useful for Fantasy play at this time.
News: The Bengals listed DB David Jones, LB Corey Mays, DB Chinedum Ndukwe, DL Eric Henderson and DL Antwan Odom among their inactives for Week 13 against the Ravens.
Analysis: These players are low-end Fantasy IDP performers at best. Leave them on waivers except in deeper leagues.
News: The following players are listed as inactive for Week 8 at Houston for the Bengals: DB Jamar Fletcher, LB Corey Mays, TE Ben Utecht, WR Andre Caldwell, WR Jerome Simpson and DT Jason Shirley.
Analysis: Caldwell only has long-term potential this point since he's buried on the Bengals' depth chart. Consider him no better than a low-end reserve worth hanging on to in the deepest of keeper leagues. None of the other players on this list should be considered viable Fantasy options.
News: The Bengals listed the following players as inactive for Week 7 against Pittsburgh: QB Carson Palmer (third QB), WR Glenn Holt, TE Ben Utecht, K Shayne Graham, DB Jamar Fletcher, LB Corey Mays, DL Orien Harris and DL Jason Shirley.
Analysis: Aside from Palmer and Graham, none of the players on this list should be considered viable Fantasy option. They are not in a position to contribute regular stats as they aren't in line for regular playing time. They've got some depth chart climbing to do and should be left on the waiver wire.
News: Bengals DB Jamar Fletcher (hamstring), DB Herana-Daze Jones (hamstring) and LB Corey Mays (ankle) have been ruled out for Week 7 vs. Pittsburgh.
Analysis: All three of these players have limited roles on defense when healthy and will hardly be missed in Fantasy Week 7. Continue to keep them off Fantasy rosters.
News: Bengals DB Dexter Jackson, LB Corey Mays, WR Andre Caldwell, WR Jerome Simpson, DL John Thornton and DL Jason Shirley have all been ruled inactive for Week 6 at N.Y. Jets.
Analysis: Most of these players are reserves and have a marginal role when active. It's safe to keep most of them off Fantasy rosters and all should be reserved for Fantasy Week 6.
News: Bengals LB Corey Mays (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 6 at N.Y. Jets. Mays has played in four games this season, recording three tackles.
Analysis: Mays is nothing more than roster depth for the Bengals and has little to no Fantasy value when healthy.
News: The Bengals signed three players Monday -- WR Glen Holt, LB Rashad Jeanty and LB Corey Mays -- and waived CB Brandon Williams. Holt, Jeanty and Mays are third-year NFL players who were with the Bengals in 2007. Their contracts expired after the season, and the Bengals held their exclusive NFL rights. All three players signed one-year contracts. Mays played in 11 games last season after being acquired on waivers from New England. He ranked second on the team in special teams tackles (15), with a forced fumble on special teams, and he had nine tackles on defense.
Analysis: Mays has minimal Fantasy value at this time and should not be drafted in most IDP formats heading into 2008.
News: The Bengals inactives for Week 7 against the Jets include QB Jeff Rowe, DB David Jones, LB Corey Mays, LB Ahmad Brooks, LB Caleb Miller and WR Antonio Chatman.
Analysis: Keep all of these players reserved in Week 7. They have minimal Fantasy value even when healthy.
News: The Bengals placed LB Lemar Marshall on Injured Reserve with a torn left Achilles' tendon and claimed LB Corey Mays off waivers from the Patriots.
Analysis: Once a stud Fantasy IDP option, Marshall can be dropped from all leagues. Mays isn't worth a look just yet, although considering the depleted LB corps in Cincinnati, he'll be playing soon.
News: The New England Patriots signed fullback Kyle Eckel to the active roster and released linebacker Corey Mays on Monday. Mays was in his second NFL season after signing with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent last year. The 6-foot-1, 245-pound linebacker played in eight regular-season games and three playoff games after spending the first half of the season on the practice squad.
Analysis: Mays had virtually no Fantasy appeal as a deep reserve on the Patriots. He'll have even less now in Fantasy IDP leagues.
News: The Patriots listed QB Matt Gutierrez (third QB), WR Kelley Washington (hamstring), LB Corey Mays (coach's decision), DL Kareem Brown (coach's decision), LB Chad Brown (coach's decision) and DL Mike Wright (coach's decision) as inactive for Week 3 vs. Buffalo.
Analysis: None of the players listed above carry any Fantasy relevance at this time. Leave them on the waiver wire until further notice -- and don't hold your breath.
News: The New England Patriots announced that DT Kareem Brown, DB Rashad Baker, LB Corey Mays, TE David Thomas and DT Mike Wright are inactive for Week 2 against the Chargers. Matt Gutierrez is also serving as the No. 3 emergency quarterback.
Analysis: None of the players mentioned above are worth using in Week 3 against the Bills.
News: The Boston Globe reports that the Patriots released TE Marcellus Rivers and activated LB Corey Mays and DL Santonio Thomas from their practice squad.
Analysis: None of these players are productive enough to warrant use in Fantasy play.
News: The Patriots reached practice squad agreements with WRs Bam Childress and C.J. Jones, DL Santonio Thomas and LB Corey Mays.
Analysis: None of these players should be drafted in any Fantasy leagues in 2007. They will not get enough playing time to help your roster this season.
News: On Saturday, the Patriots released QB Vinny Testaverde and LB Chad Brown and waived the following players: defensive back Larry Anam; linebackers Corey Mays and Justin Rogers; wide receivers Bam Childress, Chris Dunlap, Kelvin Kight and C.J. Jones; offensive linemen Mike Elgin and Gene Mruczkowski; tackles Corey Hilliard and Clint Oldenburg; tight ends Brian Jones, Garrett Mills and Marcellus Rivers; defensive linemen Rashad Moore, Santonio Thomas and Zach West; running back Quinton Smith; and cornerback Dante Wesley.
Analysis: Mills and Rogers could end up elsewhere, but ultimately, all of the above players should be considered unusable for Fantasy purposes until they find regular playing time with an NFL team.
News: The Patriots re-signed safety Rashad Baker, linemen Gene Mruczkowski and Mike Wright and linebacker Corey Mays on Wednesday. Baker and Mruczkowski were restricted free agents, and Mays and Wright were exclusive-rights free agents.
Analysis: None of these players are expected to be solid options in 2007 league play. If anything, Baker is a deep sleeper in the largest of dynasty leagues.
News: Patriots LB Don Davis (knee) and RB Patrick Pass (hamstring) are out, DB Rodney Harrison (shoulder) is doubtful, DB Ellis Hobbs (wrist), LB Eric Alexander (shoulder), DB Rashad Baker (thigh), DL Vince Wilfork (ankle) and DL Mike Wright (shoulder) are questionable, while LB Corey Mays (hamstring) and DL Richard Seymour (elbow) are listed as probable for Week 15 vs. Houston.
Analysis: Wilfork and Seymour are the only players worth using for Fantasy purposes in Week 15. Ignore the other injured players for now.
News: Patriots LB Eric Alexander (shoulder), LB Don Davis (knee), DB Ellis Hobbs (wrist) are questionable, while LB Corey Mays (hamstring) and DL Richard Seymour (elbow) are listed as probable for Week 14 at Miami.
Analysis: Seymour is the only injured player worth using for Fantasy purposes in Week 14. Keep an eye on his status, but it looks as though he will play against the Dolphins.
News: Patriots DB Rodney Harrison (shoulder) is out, DB Ellis Hobbs (wrist), LB Corey Mays (hamstring), DB Chad Scott (groin), DB Eugene Wilson (hamstring) are questionable, while DL Richard Seymour (elbow) are listed as probable for Week 13 vs. Detroit.
Analysis: Seymour is the only injured player worth using for Fantasy purposes in Week 13. Keep an eye on his status, but it looks as though he will play against the Lions.
News: Notable inactives for the Bears-Patriots Week 12 game include: Bears' QB Kyle Orton (No. 3 QB), WR Justin Gage, CB Dante Wesley, FB J.D. Runnels, LB Darrell McClover and DE Antonio Garay. For the Patriots, QB Vinny Testaverde (No. 3 QB), FS Eugene Wilson, DB Chad Scott, SS Rodney Harrison, LB Corey Mays, DT Le Kevin Smith and DE Marquise Hill are inactive.
Analysis: Harrison should remain sidelined in IDP leagues while everyone else shouldn't be on a Fantasy roster.
News: Notable players the Patriots listed as questionable for Week 12 vs. Chicago include: TE Daniel Graham (ankle), CB Ellis Hobbs (wrist), LB Corey Mays (hamstring), CB Asante Samuel (knee), DB Chad Scott (groin), TE David Thomas (groin) and safety Eugene Wilson (hamstring). None of them practiced Wednesday.
Analysis: None of these players are quality Fantasy options in standard leagues, IDP or otherwise.
News: The players announced on the Patriots' practice squad were offensive linemen Billy Yates and Dan Stevenson, wide receiver Kelvin Kight, defensive lineman Santonio Thomas, linebacker Corey Mays and cornerback Antwain Spann.
Analysis: None of these players should be considered for use in Fantasy leagues this year.
News: Defensive lineman Dan Klecko, the son of former New York Jets star Joe Klecko, was among nine players released Saturday by the New England Patriots. The other eight players cut were wide receiver Kelvin Kight; offensive linemen Dan Stevenson, Billy Yates and Randy Hand; defensive lineman Santonio Thomas; linebacker Corey Mays; safety Guss Scott; and cornerback Antwain Spann.
Analysis: Stevenson was a sixth-round draft choice from Notre Dame. On Friday, the Patriots cut another rookie sixth-round pick, Jeremy Mincey from Florida, who was shifting from defensive line to linebacker. None of these players has any Fantasy value.
