49ers trim roster to 75 players Monday

(8/25/2014) The 49ers made several moves to trim the roster to 75 players Monday.

The team waived quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, safety D.J. Campbell, tight end Kevin Greene, running back Jewel Hampton, punt Colton Schmidt, linebacker Kion Wilson and wide receiver Devon Wylie, while also releasing wide receiver David Reed.

The team placed running back Marcus Lattimore, fullback Trey Millard, cornerback Keith Reaser and guard Brandon Thomas on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury List and linebacker NaVorro Bowman, tight end Garrett Celek and defensive tackle Kaleb Ramsey were placed on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List. Linebacker Blake Costanzo was released from the Injured Reserve list.


Blake Costanzo could return later in season

(8/15/2014) 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters that linebacker Blake Costanzo could make his return later in the season, according to Comncast SportsNet Bay Area. Costanzo suffered a knee injury during the first preseason game against the Ravens. The team placed him on injured reserve Wednesday.

Costanzo has been dealing with a back injury. Rosario has been limited with an ankle issue. Both players were able to practice in full Thursday.

Special-teams ace Costanzo joins Bears


(3/14/2012) Linebacker Blake Costanzo, who signed with the Bears late Tuesday, has 71 career special teams tackles, four forced fumbles and four recoveries. His 17 special teams tackles was second on the 49ers last season. "The (Bears) have had some of the top special teams in the league, too, so we've been in contact with them," Costanzo told the San Francisco Chronicle. "They made me an offer and wanted to make me part of their team for the next couple of years. It was a good opportunity for me and my family. I decided to jump on it."

(12/7/2009) Browns defensive end Kenyon Coleman did not participate in Monday's walkthrough. Coleman, who missed Sunday's game against San Diego with a knee injury, was hurt in last week's game against Cincinnati. The Browns had 10 other players, including linebacker David Bowens (knee), defensive lineman Robaire Smith (shoulder), linebacker Kamerion Wimbley (knee), linebacker Blake Costanzo (shoulder) and cornerback Eric Wright (hamstring), limited in practice as they began preparing for Thursday night's game against Pittsburgh.

Costanzo claimed by Browns


(6/17/2009) The Cleveland Browns were awarded linebacker Blake Costanza from the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday. Costanza played in all 16 games on Buffalo's special teams last season and led the club with 26 tackles and forced two fumbles. An undrafted free agent who signed with the New York Jets in 2006, the 25-year-old spent a portion of the 2007 season on Buffalo's practice squad and played special teams in the Bills' final three games that season. He was a three-year starter at Lafayette.

Bills cut five guys


(6/11/2009) Linebacker Blake Costanzo was one of five players waived by the Buffalo Bills after the team concluded its final spring minicamp session on Thursday. Used primarily on special teams, Costanzo appeared in all 16 games last season. He also played in three games for Buffalo in 2007. Also waived by the Bills were defensive linemen John Faletoese and Gerald Washington, offensive lineman Joel Bell, and defensive back Kyle Ward.

The cuts included CB Will James, RB Dwayne Wright and LB Donnie Spragan. Also released were: TEs Courtney Anderson and Tim Massaquoi; LBs Jon Banks, Marcus Buggs and Blake Costanzo; DLs Jason Jefferson, Derrick Jones, Corey Mace and Teraz McCray; WRs Felton Huggins and Scott Mayle; RBs Bruce Hall and Jonathan Evans; and CB Dustin Fox.
