Broncos' probables suit up for Super Bowl

(2/2/2014) Several Broncos who were listed as probable on the injury report are active for the Super Bowl, including cornerbacks Tony Carter (shoulder) and Kayvon Webster (thumb), defensive tackles Terrance Knighton (knee) and Mitch Unrein (knee) and kicker Matt Prater (illness). All were able to practice fully last week.

(1/27/2014) Broncos kicker Matt Prater, who missed three straight practices last week with an illness, will practice Monday, reports the Denver Post. "Hopefully, in another day or two, I'll be back to normal," Prater said Sunday.

Prater described the illness as "some kind of flu or something."


Virus won't keep Matt Prater from kicking in Super Bowl

(1/26/2014) Broncos kicker Matt Prater contracted a virus that caused him to miss three straight practices last week, but he is flying with the team to New Jersey and will play in the Super Bowl, reports the Denver Post.

The paper notes that the last time Prater visited MetLife Stadium, in Week 2, he had five of his eight kickoffs returned by the Giants. That was highly unusual for Prater, who led the league with 81 touchbacks. Denver's kickoff coverage unit has not had to make a tackle since Dec. 29 at Oakland.

(1/19/2014) Broncos kicker Matt Prater nailed all four of his field-goal tries in the AFC Championship Game victory, including a 54-yarder that would have been good from at least 60. Prater went 6 of 7 from 50-plus yards during the regular season.

Sunday he added two PATs for a 14-point outing. Prater faces the Seahawks or 49ers in Super Bowl XLVIII.

(12/29/2013) Broncos kicker Matt Prater made all two of his field goal attempts in his team's 34-14 victory over the Raiders in Week 17. Prater drilled a 34-yard shot in the second quarter and a 54-yard kick in the fourth quarter. He also added four extra points in the win.

Prater finished the regular season 25 of 26 in field goal attempts, a 96.1 conversion rate.

NFL announced special teams Pro-Bowlers

(12/27/2013) The NFL unveiled the Pro Bowl rosters for 2014Friday, and they come with a twist; for the first time, selections were made without regard for conference. The teams will be chosen via televised draft Jan. 22.

The special teams selections are as follows:

Punter: Brandon Fields, Dolphins; Johnny Hekker, Rams.

Placekicker: Matt Prater, Broncos; Justin Tucker, Ravens.

Punt returner: Antonio Brown, Steelers; Dexter McCluster, Chiefs.

Special teamer: Justin Bethel, Cardinals; Matthew Slater, Patriots.


Matt Prater has three field goals in win

(12/22/2013) Broncos kicker Matt Prater connected on all three of his field goal attempts in Sunday's 37-13 win over the Texans. 

Prater hit from 32, 25, and 44 yards out -- with all three conversions coming in the first half. Prater also made four extra point attempts in the game. 

The Broncos face the Raiders in Week 17.

(12/13/2013) Broncos kicker Matt Prater didn't set another NFL record in Week 15 against the Chargers, but he still had a solid game in a 27-20 loss Thursday. Prater connected on both of his field-goal attempts in the game, as he was good from 32 and 42 yards, while adding two successful point after touchdowns.

Prater has still missed just one field-goal attempt this season, heading into Week 16 against the Texans. He is 19 for 20, with 12 makes from beyond 40 yards.

(12/8/2013) Broncos kicker Matt Prater had a big game Week 14 against the Titans.

Prater hit on all three of his field goals, including an NFL-record 64 yarder as time expired in the first half. The kick was dead-on, but barely made it over the crossbar. The Broncos offense was efficient otherwise, giving him six extra point attempts. Prater will take on the Chargers Week 15.

(12/8/2013) Broncos kicker Matt Prater set a new NFL record, hitting a 64 yard field goal as the first half expired.

After driving down the field with less than a minute left, the Broncos set up Prater for the record-setting play. Prater's kick was down the middle, but barely cleared the ball. Teammates celebrated with Prater on the field before running into the locker room for halftime. The previous record of 63 yards was held by Tom Dempsey, Jason Elam, Sebastian Janikowski and David Akers.

The Broncos offense was firing on all cylinders, and managed to convert all five times they reached the red zone. Prater did receive five extra point attempts. He'll look for more Week 14 against the Titans.

Prater drilled a 27-yard field goal in the first quarter. He went 1 for 1 in field goal attempts and added four extra points in a 34-31 defeat. He is 15 of 16 on the year with 54 extra points.

(11/18/2013) Broncos kicker Matt Prater drilled a 54-yard field goal in the first quarter vs. the Chiefs, which made him 4 for 4 from 50-plus this season and 19 of 24 in his career for an NFL-best 79.2 percent success rate.

However, Prater later pushed a 52-yarder wide left. Prater also hit a 36-yard field goal and three PATs, finishing with nine points. He’ll visit the Patriots in Week 12.

Prater went a perfect four-for-four on his extra point attempts, but the team did not stall out close enough to the end zone to require him to kick any field goals. He'll look to improve on his performance Week 11 against the Chiefs.

The Denver offense was effective, limiting Prater to just extra point attempts. Thankfully, Prater plays on a high scoring team, and had 5 extra point opportunities. He'll look to hit from further away Week 7 against the Colts.

(10/13/2013) Broncos K Matt Prater, TE Joel Dreessen, CB Chris Harris, G Chris Kuper, LB Paris Lenon and C Manny Ramirez are active Week 6 against the Jaguars.

Chris Harris is the only player on the list who wasn't able to fully participate in practice every day this week. He did improve every day, though. After not practicing Wednesday, he was limited Thursday. He was able to get in a full practice Friday.

(10/6/2013) Broncos kicker Matt Prater made his presence felt as he nailed a game-winning 28-yard field goal as time expired at Dallas in Week 5.

Prater drilled a 48-yard shot in the third quarter and a 50-yard attempt in the fourth quarter as well. He finished 3 for 3 in field goal attempts and converted six extra points in a 51-48 victory.
