Texans make it official, put Ryan Fitzpatrick on IR

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/16/2014) The Texans made it official Tuesday, placing quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick on injured reserve with a broken leg. Coach Bill O'Brien has said Thad Lewis or newly-signed Case Keenum will start Sunday against the Ravens.

Texans to decide between Thad Lewis, Case Keenum to start Week 16

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/15/2014) The Texans announced that Tom Savage will miss Week 16 against the Ravens due to a knee injury he suffered on the penultimate play of Sunday's loss against the Colts. The loss of Savage, Ryan Fitzpatrick (broken tibia) and Ryan Mallett (pectoral) means that the starting job will come down to Thad Lewis and newly-signed Case Keenum, coach Bill O'Brien told reporters, per the team's official website.

Lewis was signed to the 53-man active roster on Nov. 26, when Mallett landed on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle. He was the No. 3 quarterback on the depth chart entering Sunday's game against Indianapolis before Fitzpatrick went down with a season-ending injury. Second-stringer Tom Savage took over for Fitzpatrick but hurt his knee late in the game. As a result, the team signed Case Keenum on Sunday night, who played eight games in 2013 with the Texans and is familiar with the offensive.

"He'd been in our system not long ago," O'Brien said of Keenum, per the Houston Chronicle. "A lot of the things we're doing are what we were doing. He's a bright guy."

Texans QB Thad Lewis ready to start, if needed

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/15/2014) Texans backup quarterback Thad Lewis told the Houston Chronicle Monday he has "no question" he can be ready to start Week 16 against the Ravens, if needed.

"I actually don’t know anything," Lewis said. "I'm like you guys, just waiting and trying to find out. You can only control what you can control. I'm just trying to be ready and whatever the coach's decision, just roll with that."

Lewis was signed to the 53-man active roster on Nov. 26, when Ryan Mallett landed on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle. He was the No. 3 quarterback on the depth chart entering Sunday's game against Indianapolis before Ryan Fitzpatrick went down with a broken leg. Second-stringer Tom Savage took over for Fitzpatrick but hyper-extended his knee on the penultimate play of the game. He is expected to undergo an MRI. The team also signed Case Keenum following Fitzpatrick's injury.

Texans release Week 13 inactives

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(11/30/2014) The Texans declared linebacker Jadeveon Clowney (knee), offensive tackle Jeff Adams, defensive back Josh Aubrey, linebacker Akeem Dent (neck), cornerback Kareem Jackson (knee), quarterback Thad Lewis and wideout DeVier Posey inactive for the game against the Titans.

Texans QB Tom Savage all but set as backup for Sunday

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/28/2014) Bill O'Brien is "leaning towards" choosing Texans rookie Tom Savage over newly acquired veteran Thad Lewis as the backup quarterback to Ryan Fitzpatrick for the Sunday game against Tennessee, the Houston Chronicle has reported.

"It's very difficult to ask Thaddeus to come in here and pick up on this offense in three days and be the No. 2 guy Sunday," O'Brien said. "Tom has improved a lot. I think this week has been his best week of throwing the ball. He definitely has a grasp of our offense."

The promotion has Savage smiling, but he's not getting complacent.

"Whether your're two or three, you're always preparing to be the guy at some point," he said. "Nothing really changes for me, just keep working and getting better."

Texans QBs Thad Lewis, Tom Savage battle for backup role

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/26/2014) Bill O'Brien has announced that the Texans will have a competition between just-signed veteran Thad Lewis and rookie Tom Savage for the backup quarterback role behind starter Ryan Fitzpatrick.

The winner will be determined in practice this week.

Texans sign QB Lewis to live roster, safety Parks to PS

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/26/2014) As expected, the Texans have signed Thad Lewis to take the roster spot vacated when fellow quarterback Ryan Mallett was placed on IR.

The team has also added safety Terrance Parks to the practice squad.

Report: Texans to sign quarterback Thad Lewis

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(11/24/2014) Sources have indicated the Texans will sign quarterback Thad Lewis to replace Ryan Mallett, according to NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Mallett was lost for the season after tearing his pectoral muscle Week 12 and the Texans have Ryan Fitzpatrick as their only healthy quarterback on the roster.

In six career starts, Lewis has thrown five touchdown passes and four interceptions. In Week 13, the Texans play against Tennessee.

Bills release Thad Lewis

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/26/2014) The Bills released quarterback Thad Lewis and will sign former Bears backup Jordan Palmer, reports NFL.com. As things stand now, Jeff Tuel figures to be EJ Manuel's backup entering Week 1.

Thad Lewis flip-flops with Jeff Tuel again on depth chart

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/8/2014) Bills quarterback Thad Lewis flip-flopped with Jeff Tuel again during Friday's preseason game against the Panthers.

Lewis worked with the second-team offense this time around and completed 6 of 11 pass attempts for 63 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. Tuel entered the game in the third quarter and completed 4 of 5 pass attempts for 24 yards, with a touchdown and an interception.

Jeff Tuel jumps over Thad Lewis for second-string duties

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/3/2014) Bills quarterback Jeff Tuel jumped over Thad Lewis in the depth chart for the second-team quarterback. He relieved starter EJ Manuel during Sunday's preseason opener against the Giants.

Tuel hooked up with Robert Woods for a two-yard strike in the second quarter. He was also intercepted by Cooper Taylor in the final minute of the first half. He completed 12 of 17 passes for 74 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.

Lewis took over for Tuel after halftime and completed 9 of 14 passes for 81 yards, with no touchdowns and one interceptions.

Jeff Tuel pushing Thad Lewis for No. 2 QB job

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/22/2014) Quarterback Thad Lewis is not guaranteed to be EJ Manuel's backup. Lewis and Jeff Tuel split time with the second team Tuesday.

"We have a battle for the second-team quarterback," coach Doug Marrone said. "We're trying to find out who it is. Jeff did a nice job in OTAs and he's earned himself some more reps."

Thad Lewis emerges in second half against Patriots

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/29/2013) Bills quarterback Thad Lewis is no Pro Bowler, but he is at least consistent. He has passed for between 197 and 247 yards in each of his five starts this season. He hit the high end of those totals Sunday at New England.

Lewis appeared unlikely to approach that number after passing just eight times in the first half, completing three for 62 yards. But he came on strong after intermission, hitting T.J. Graham on a 41-yard pass and 12-yard touchdown off a run fake in the third quarter.

He finished 16 of 29 for the 247 yards and score.

Thad Lewis in, EJ Manuel out for Sunday game

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/29/2013) What was expected is now official. Thad Lewis will start the Week 17 game for the Bills at quarterback. He had been deemed probable with a shoulder ailment. Starter EJ Manuel, who was doubtful, has been ruled out for the clash at New England with a knee injury.

Handful of Bills probable for Week 17 battle

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/27/2013) The Bills have deemed five players as probable for Sunday at New England, including quarterback Thad Lewis (shoulder), who has replaced doubtful EJ Manuel (knee) as the starter, and running back Fred Jackson (ribs).

The others are wideouts Marcus Easley and Marquise Goodwin with knee injuries and defensive tackle Kyle Williams (Achilles).

EJ Manuel to sit, Thad Lewis to start against Patriots

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/27/2013) A knee injury had ended the year for Bills rookie quarterback EJ Manuel. He will sit in favor of Thad Lewis on Sunday against New England. Doug Marrone made that pronouncement a week after exclaiming that Manuel would definitely start in the season finale.

Manuel finishes with 180 completions in 306 passing attempts (58.8 percent) for 1,972 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. His knee problem will have cost him six games.

Bills quarterback situation for Sunday still muddled

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/27/2013) Bills starting quarterback EJ Manuel (knee) participated in the media availability portion of Friday practice, but backup Thad Lewis was taking more reps, the Buffalo News has reported. The team has yet to announce who will play Sunday at New England.

Bills vague about Week 17 starting quarterback

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/24/2013) Bills coach Doug Marrone said he wants to see how rookie EJ Manuel's knee responds to Tuesday's practice before deciding on a starting quarterback for Week 17 at New England, reports the Buffalo News. Marrone did say Manuel threw the ball well.

If Manuel isn't ready, Thad Lewis would make his second straight start and fifth overall.

Bills don't ask for much from Thad Lewis

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/22/2013) The Bills didn't need Thad Lewis to do much in Week 16, but he did enough to beat the Dolphins for the second time, 19-0.

Lewis completed 15 of 25 passes for 193 yards in the game, and was held out of the end zone for the second time against Miami. He tossed one interception and finished with 13 rushing yards on eight carries.

Lewis has appeared in five games this season, starting four of them. He enters Week 17 against the Patriots with 845 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. It is not clear if Lewis will start the final game of the season, with EJ Manuel still dealing with a knee injury.

Only use Thad Lewis in case of emergency

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(8:42 pm ET) With EJ Manuel sidelined by a injury, the Bills will once again turn to Thad Lewis to start in Week 16 against the Dolphins. He will be facing the Dolphins for the second time this season in his fourth start, and will be looking for a repeat of a Week 7 win.

Lewis wasn't particularly strong in that game against the Dolphins, as he finished without a touchdown, the only time he hasn't scored as a starting quarterback this season. He finished the game with 202 yards through the air and 13 on the ground, while throwing one interception.

Lewis looked better than expected as a starter, but Lewis hardly put up strong enough numbers for Fantasy owners looking for a boost at this point in the season. Against a Dolphins defense that has allowed the sixth-fewest Fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks (15.9), Lewis is little more than a desperation play for this Sunday.

Thad Lewis makes his return in reserve role

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/10/2013) Bills quarterback Thad Lewis (rib) is active and in uniform as he returns to a backup role in Week 10 against the Steelers Sunday. Lewis will take a seat on the bench with EJ Manuel also returning from an injury.

Four probables dominate Bills injury list

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/8/2013) The Bills are in fairly good health heading into their Sunday game in Pittsburgh. Four players have been listed as probable. They are quarterbacks E.J. Manuel (knee) and Thad Lewis (ribs), defensive tackle Kyle Williams (Achilles) and wideout Marquise Goodwin (hamstring).

All were full practice participants on Friday.

Thad Lewis practicing in full, likely to return to backup role

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/8/2013) Bills quarterback Thad Lewis has been able to practice in full after missing last week's game with a rib injury, but that doesn't mean he is set to return to the starting lineup in Week 10 against the Steelers. With EJ Manuel expected to return from a knee injury, Lewis will likely take on a backup role for the Bills.
