49ers list Week 16 inactives vs. Chargers

(12/20/2014) The 49ers have listed the following players as inactive for Saturday's Week 16 matchup against the Chargers: running back Carlos Hyde (ankle), wide receiver Steve Johnson (knee), cornerback Tramaine Brock (hamstring), linebacker Ahmad Brooks (thumb), quarterback Josh Johnson and guards Andrew Tiller and Joe Looney.

Hyde, Johnson and Brock were all ruled out for Saturday's game on the team's final report, but Brooks joins them on the inactive list after being deemed questionable. The team will have running back Frank Gore and wide receiver Michael Crabtree active for the game.

The 49ers are a 1-point favorite for the Saturday night showdown with the Chargers.


49ers unveil lengthy injury report for Saturday game

(12/19/2014) The 49ers have ruled the following players out for Saturday's game against San Diego: Linebacker Chris Borland (ankle), cornerback Tramaine Brock (hamstring), running back Carlos Hyde (ankle), wide receiver Stevie Johnson (knee).

Linebacker Ahmad Brooks (thumb), wide receiver Michael Crabtree (knee), right tackle Anthony Davis (concussion), running back Frank Gore (concussion), safety Raymond Vetrone (groin) and linebacker Michael Wilhoite (hip) were labeled as questionable.

Meanwhile, cornerback Perrish Cox (ankle), cornerback Chris Culliver (knee), defensive tackle Quinton Dial (knee), defensive end Tony Jerod-Eddie (foot), right tackle Jonathan Martin (illness), center Marcus Martin (knee), long snapper Kyle Nelson (back) and defensive end Justin Smith (back) were all deemed as probable.

(12/15/2014) 49ers outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks suffered a dislocated left thumb in a Week 15 defeat to the Seahawks, the Bay Area News Group reports. It remains to be seen if Brooks will be available on Saturday against the Chargers.

LB Ahmad Brooks apologizes to 49ers for sideline rant

(11/20/2014) LB Ahmad Brooks has apologized for his sideline rant Sunday at 49ers defensive line coach Jim Tomsula during the Sunday defeat of the Giants that resulted in his benching for the last three quarters.

"We've had several distraction this year. You know what I mean?" Brooks told the San Jose Mercury News. "I can't be a distraction, especially by me being a veteran." Brooks, who has started every game for the Niners since 2011, also insisted he "did not quit on the team" because he did not take himself out of the game.


49ers' Brooks will play Sunday after working out 'differences'

(11/17/2014) 49ers and linebacker Ahmad Brooks have "worked out" their differences, and Brooks will return to action Week 12 against Washington, coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters in Monday's press conference, according to Matt Maiocco of Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.

Brooks played 12 snaps in the first half of Sunday's win over the Giants before pulling himself out of the game due to a disagreement with the linebacker rotation. Brooks leads the team with four sacks this season.


49ers' Fangio calls Ahmad Brooks trade rumors 'way out of line'

(11/4/2014) FOX Sports reported over the weekend the 49ers were trying to trade linebacker Ahmad Brooks prior to the trade deadline and backed out of a deal that would have sent Brooks to the Browns in exchange for a draft pick. 

However, if the report was true and general manager Trent Baalke was looking to deal Brooks, then it is news to defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, according to NFL.com.

"You know it was never mentioned to me before the trade deadline ended," Fangio said Tuesday on KNBR-AM, "and I would think that if there was any seriousness going on along those ways, that Trent would have mentioned it to me. And he never did, so I think those reports are way out of line."

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said earlier in the day that the linebacker is heavier than the team would like. Brooks was on a stationary bike in the weight room at the beginning of practice.


Ahmad Brooks restructures deal

(7/30/2014) 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks restructured his contract, saving the team $2 million in cap space, reports Pro Football Talk. Brooks took $3.395 million of his $5.1 million base salary as a bonus, allowing the team to prorate it.

San Fran is about $10 million under the cap, the website said.

49ers defense in good shape for championship game

(1/17/2014) The 49ers defense should be at something close to full strength for the NFC Championship game against the Seahawks Sunday, as only two players are considered to be in doubt base on the injury report. Defensive lineman Will Tukuafu  (knee) and defensive back Carlos Rogers (hamstring) are both questionable for Sunday's game after being limited at times during the week in practice.

The remainder of the team's injury report is made up of players who are expected to play through their maladies. Defensive linemen Justin Smith (shoulder) and Demarcus Dobbs (knee, shoulder), linebackers NaVorro Bowman (wrist), Dan Skuta (foot) and Ahmad Brooks (illness) are all probable for the game.

(1/13/2014) 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks had 2.5 sacks against the Panthers after getting a pair of sacks in the wild-card win at Green Bay. With 6.5 career playoff sacks, Brooks is tied for second in franchise history.

"Ahmad’s progressed and become a better pass rusher here in the last year or so," defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said. "Just worked at it and played more and learned through experience. Learned through what works, what doesn’t work, what’s best for him, what’s not best for him. And just having more opportunities."

49ers DST brings heavy pass rush

(1/5/2014) The 49ers sacked Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers four times in their 23-20 playoff win, including two by linebacker Ahmad Brooks and 1 1/2 by linebacker Aldon Smith. It was the most Rodgers had been sacked all season.

San Francisco held Green Bay to 6 yards in the first quarter, 281 overall. But the 49ers DST failed to force a turnover. The unit will look to be more disruptive in next Sunday's playoff game at Carolina.

(11/26/2013) 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks enjoyed a monster game as he registered two sacks during Monday's win over the Redskins in Week 12.

Brooks sacked Robert Griffin III on the last play of the third quarter and then brought him down again late in the fourth quarter. He finished with seven total tackles (six solo), two sacks, three tackles for loss, one pass defended and two quarterback hits in a 27-6 victory. he has 8.5 sacks on the year.
