Geno Atkins' feet don't keep him down

(9/14/2014) Bengals defensive lineman Geno Atkins, who was limited in practice leading up to the game with a foot issue, is active for Week 2 against Atlanta. He was listed as probable on Friday's injury report.

Atkins missed the final seven games last year with a torn ACL. He had one tackle in Week 1.

(9/12/2014) The Bengals have again ruled out wide receiver Marvin Jones, this time for the Week 2 clash against Tennessee.

The team lists halfback Rex Burkhead (knee) and linebacker Sean Porter (hamstring) as doubtful. Linebacker Vontaze Burfict (concussion) is questionable while defensive tackle Geno Atkins (feet), cornerback Darqueze Dennard (hip) and defensive end Carlos Dunlap (hamstring) are probable.

(9/8/2014) Bengals defensive lineman Geno Atkins had a quiet return from injury in Week 1 against the Ravens, in a 23-16 win Sunday.

Atkins, who missed seven games a year ago after tearing his ACL, had just one tackle in his return to action, and did not get to the quarterback in the game. Afterwards he had to be carted off the field, but was just dealing with dehydration, according to coach Marvin Lewis. Atkins played 49 of 88 defensive players for the Bengals.

(8/20/2014) Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins, who's coming back from a torn ACL, participated in team drills Wednesday and convinced defensive coordinator Paul Guenther he's ready to play a couple series Sunday at Arizona, reports the team's website. Whether or not Atkins plays Sunday, coach Marvin Lewis said the two-time Pro Bowler "is a go" for the regular-season opener in Baltimore.

(7/22/2014) Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins, who's coming back from a torn ACL, should be ready for the season opener, defensive coordinator Paul Guenther told the Cincinnati Enquirer. Coach Marvin Lewis said the team will keep Atkins on the PUP list for a few days of training camp "to get a look at him," suggesting Atkins could be ready to practice soon.

(7/21/2014) As the Bengals prepare to open training camp this week, they placed nine players on the Physically Unable to Perform list and another three on the Non-Football Injury list. All 12 players can come off both lists at any time. 

Defensive tackle Geno Atkins (knee), cornerback Leon Hall (Achilles), guard Clint Boling (knee), linebacker Marquis Flowers (hamstring), punter Kevin Huber (neck), receiver Colin Lockett (hamstring), defensive tackle Zach Minter (back), defensive tackle Devon Still (back) and receiver Ryan Whalen (hamstring) all were placed on PUP. 

In addition to receiver Marvin Jones (ankle), who might not be seriously hurt, the Bengals placed cornerback Onterio McCalebb (ankle) and quarterback AJ McCarron (shoulder) on their NFI list.

(6/2/2014) Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins' status is not known after suffering a torn ACL in the middle of last season. In February it was reported that he hadn't had any setbacks but ESPN says it's "anyone's guess" when he'll be back on the field. The Bengals are apt to keep Devon Still and/or Brandon Thompson if Atkins isn't ready for the start of the season.

(2/9/2014) Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins (torn ACL) and cornerback Leon Hall (torn Achilles') have encountered no setbacks in their rehabs and "it sounds like both are on track to work at some point in camp," reports the team's website. But it's early and "that's why fingers are crossed" that neither star begins the season on the PUP list, the report said.

(11/1/2013) The bad news that was expected came in Friday when an MRI confirmed that Bengals defensive Geno Atkins has a torn ACL. He will be out for the season.

Atkins sustained the injury Thursday night against Miami. He will end the year with 20 tackles and six sacks.

(11/1/2013) Bengals defensive lineman Geno Atkins' season likely came to an end Thursday, after he suffered what is feared to be a torn ACL, according to the NFL Network's broadcast. Coach Marvin Lewis confirmed to reporters after the game that Atkins has an ACL injury, but would not give details as to the extent of the injury.

(10/31/2013) Bengals defensive lineman Geno Atkins was forced to leave Thursday's game against the Dolphins in Week 9 with a knee injury, and he was unable to return after halftime. Atkins suffered the injury shortly before the two-minute warning, and had to be helped off the field and carted to the locker room.

Atkins, who also had five tackles -- one solo -- for the Bengals' defense, now has 3 1/2 sacks on the season for Cincinnati. He has nine tackles on the year.

(9/29/2013) Bengals defensive lineman Geno Atkins had a solid performance in a 17-6 loss to the Browns in Week 4 Sunday.

Atkins had three tackles in the game, two of which helped bring Brian Hoyer down. He finished with 1 1/2 sacks in the game, giving him 2 1/3 through the first four games of the season.

Atkins has just four tackles through four games, putting him well off his pace from a year ago when he racked up 53 stops in 16 games.  


Bengals DST stuffs the Steelers

(9/17/2013) The Bengals DST made life difficult for the Steelers on Monday, holding Pittsburgh to 10 points and 278 total yards. Cincinnati allowed 2.8 yards per carry.

Cornerback Adam Jones forced a fumble, safety Reggie Nelson intercepted a deflected pass and defensive tackle Geno Atkins had one of the team's two sacks. 

The Bengals DST faces a much stiffer test in Week 3 against the Packers.

Atkins did not record a tackle during the game. He got to quarterback Jay Cutler once, but did not register a sack. Atkins will face the Steelers in Week 2. 


Report: Bengals working to extend Geno Atkins

(8/8/2013) The Bengals are working on a long-term contract extension with defensive lineman Geno Atkins, ESPN.com reported Thursday. Atkins is set to make $1.42 million this season, in the final year of his rookie deal.

The report states the two sides have been discussing a contract over the last few weeks, though it is not yet clear what kind of numbers are being discussed.
