Browns quartet 50/50 for game against Steelers

(12/27/2013) Four Browns have been designated as questionable for the Sunday clash at AFC North rival Pittsburgh, including tight end Jordan Cameron (concussion) and cornerback Joe Haden (hip). The others are offensive linemen Jason Pinkston (thigh) and John Greco (knee).

(12/27/2013) Browns guard Jason Pinkston and nose tackle Phillip Taylor have been ruled out for Sunday at Pittsburgh with concussions. Taylor will be missing his first game this season, but the injury-plagued Pinkston played in just three.

(12/27/2013) The Browns are banged up heading into their season finale against the Steelers. Nose tackle Phillip Taylor (concussion), defensive end John Hughes (knee) and offensive linemen Jason Pinkston (concussion) and Shawn Lauvao (thigh) were all absent from Friday practice.

Their statuses for the game against Pittsburgh will be clearer when the team releases its injury report later in the afternoon.

Pinkston will assume the starting job against the Bears on Sunday can't play.

(11/22/2013) The Browns are in good shape offensively as they prepare to host the visiting Steelers on Sunday. All but little-used tight end MarQueis Gray, who is out with a hamstring injury, are listed as probable.

The probables are running backs Fozzy Whittaker (ankle) and Willis McGahee (knee) and offensive linemen Jason Pinkston (ankle) and Mitchell Schwartz (toe). Punter Spencer Lanning (knee) has the same designation.

(11/13/2013) The return of Jason Pinkston from an ankle injury will not change the starting guard situation for the Browns, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. John Greco and Shawn Lauvao will remain the starters.

The offensive line has provided better protection in recent weeks after a terrible start to the season, though the run blocking remains a concern.

(10/30/2013) Browns guard Jason Pinkston, who has remained out all season with an ankle injury, is now eligible to come off IR, but he won't at least until next week, per the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram. Rob Chudzinski reported that Pinkston will be evaluated next week before a decision is made.

Pinkston was battling before the injury for the starting right guard spot, which has since been assumed by Shawn Lauvao.

(10/16/2013) Browns starting left guard Jason Pinkston (ankle) will return to practice on Wednesday, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. Pinkston, however, must remain out of game action through Week 8 as a player who had been placed on the IR/designated to return list.

(9/3/2013) The Browns have placed guard Jason Pinkston on the injured reserve/designated for return list, the team announced Tuesday.

Pinkston suffered an ankle injury in an Aug. 15 preseason game against Detoit. He is eligible to return to practice as early as Week 7 (at Green Bay), and eligible to return to the active roster as early as Week 9 (vs. Baltimore) in early November.

(8/21/2013) Rob Chudzinski stressed that the Browns are "burning the midnight oil" searching for a right guard with Shawn Lauvao and Jason Pinkston both down. Rookie seventh-rounder Garrett Gilkey has played well, but is raw.

The Browns thought they had the answer when they traded with the Seahawks for experienced guard John Moffitt, but he never played a minute of practice before he was sent back to Seattle after failing a physical.

(8/17/2013) Ankle injuries to guards Shawn Lauvao and Jason Pinkston have pushed rookie seventh-round pick Garrett Gilkey into the starting job on the right side for the Browns. Lauvao and Pinkston are both expected to miss the first couple weeks of the regular season.

The 330-pound Gilkey did not appear overmatched in the preseason game Thursday against Detroit. He is working with the first unit in practice on Saturday.


Jason Pinkston could miss some time

(8/17/2013) Browns right guard Jason Pinkston could miss the early part of the regular season with a right high ankle sprain, coach Rob Chudzinski told the Akron Beacon-Journal Friday. 

Pinkston, who missed the last 10 games last year with a blood clot in his lung, suffered the injury in the first quarter of Friday's game against Detroit. There are no indications that Pinkston will need surgery.
