News: The Raiders promoted cornerback Chimdi Chekwa from the practice squad to the active roster Monday.
Analysis: Chekwa will just be secondary depth for the Raiders and can be ignored in Fantasy.
News: The Raiders continued tweaking their roster Saturday in preparation for the regular season and signed defensive back Phillip Adams and linebacker Keenan Clayton. Oakland also waived defensive backs Chimdi Chekwa and Bryan McCann, and waived/injured defensive lineman Jamie Cumbie.
Analysis: None of these players were or are expected to make a major Fantasy impact this season. Leave them off all rosters at this point.
News: Raiders DB Chimdi Chekwa was placed on IR on Thursday with a hamstring injury. DB Bryan McCann was signed to take his roster spot.
Analysis: Chekwa was just a reserve DB for the Raiders after being a fourth-round draft pick out of Ohio State. He didn't have any Fantasy appeal, so continue to ignore him.
News: With starting CB Chris Johnson (hamstring) ruled out for Sundays game against New England, rookie DB Chimdi Chekwa will likely make his first NFL start. I think my biggest challenge is really just going out there and communicating with my teammates, knowing my responsibility and executing, being confident," he said.
Analysis: Chekwa came off the bench and replaced an injured Johnson last Sunday against the Jets. He finished with a season-high four tackles against New York in Johnson's absence. He was limited in practice earlier this week, but is officially listed as probably on the injury report. Fantasy owners in IDP formats should not consider him a worthwhile option in Week 4.
News: Oakland rookie CB Chimdi Chekwa suffered an apparent left shoulder injury in a one-on-one collision during a position drill on Saturday. He left with a trainer to the locker room following the Raiders' first field drills in full pads. No further details were provided.
Analysis: With Chekwa's injury coupled with the departure of star CB Nnamdi Asomugha, Oakland is becoming thin at the cornerback position. Chekwa, a fourth-round draft pick out of Ohio State, wasn't expected to make a huge impact and should not be viewed as an option in upcoming Fantasy drafts.
News: The Raiders took two of the fastest players available in the NFL draft, picking up cornerback Chimdi Chekwa from Ohio State (Round 4) and DeMarcus Van Dyke of Miami (Round 3). Both have been clocked in sub-4.4 second 40-yard dashes. Van Dyke started just three games as a senior but played in 50 and had three interceptions in four seasons with the Hurricanes. Chekwa started 38 of his 52 career games for the Buckeyes and was also a member of Ohio State's Big Ten championship 400-meter relay team in 2009. He had six interceptions and 29 pass breakups. "Cornerback here for the Oakland Raiders will always be a position that we address," coach Hue Jackson said. "We love guys who can cover, we love guys who can run, we love guys who are athletes, who can play several different spots back there in the secondary."
Analysis: With the Raiders letting CB Nnamdi Asomugha go, it's no surprise that they're addressing the cornerback position. However, neither Chekwa nor Van Dyke are in a position to start or post enough stats to move the Fantasy needle. Keep them off of Fantasy rosters.
