Broncos announce Super Bowl inactives

(2/2/2014) The Broncos listed defensive tackle Sione Fua (calf), cornerback Quentin Jammer, tight end Joel Dreessen, running back Ronnie Hillman, guard Chris Kuper, offensive tackle Vinston Painter and quarterback Zac Dysert as inactive for the Super Bowl.

With Hillman inactive, rookie C.J. Anderson will serve as the No. 3 running back. Cornerback Marquice Cole replaces Jammer on the active roster.


Matt Prater, Sione Fua red-lighted for Saturday practice

(1/25/2014) An illness prevented Broncos placekicker Matt Prater from his third consecutive practice on Saturday. Prater was in the building, but was sent home, according to ESPN. The only other non-participant was defensive tackle Sione Fua (calf).

(8/31/2013) The Panthers have announced 11 cuts, the most significant of which are quarterback Jimmy Clausen and cornerback Drayton Florence.

The others are as follows: wide receivers James Shaw and Brenton Bersin, tight end Zack Pianalto, guard Hayworth Hicks, defensive tackle Sione Fua, linebackers Doug Hogue and Ben Jacobs, safety Robert Lester and running back Tauren Poole.

The 32-year Florence has spent most of his career as a starter with San Diego, Jacksonville, Buffalo and Detroit.


Fua done for the season


(12/6/2011) The Carolina Panthers plan to place starting rookie DL Sione Fua (hamstring) on injured reserve, according to The Associated Press. Fua suffered a significant right hamstring strain prior to Week 13 against Tampa Bay and didn’t play. It's unclear if he will need surgery.

Defense part of Panthers' draft


(5/4/2011) The Panthers knew that their run defense stunk in 2010, so they brought in talent to help in 2011. Carolina spent two third-round picks on defensive tackles: USF's Terrell McClain and Stanford's Sione Fua. They also brought in West Virginia CB Brandon Hogan (Round 4) and UConn LB Lawrence Wilson (Round 6). They'll work with new defensive coordinator Sean McDermott and head coach Ron Rivera in the Panthers' 4-3 scheme.
