Josh Freeman working with Jon Gruden

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/16/2014) Former NFL quarterback Josh Freeman will work out with former head coach Jon Gruden and quarterback consultant Terry Shea over the next two weeks in an attempt to get his career back on track, NFL.com's Gil Brandt reported Monday

Freeman's career seemed to be on track until last season when he was cut by the Bucs after three starts and made one start with the Vikings. Freeman spent a month on the Giants roster this offseason.

Giants cut Josh Freeman

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/30/2014) The Giants announced the release of quarterback Josh Freeman on Friday. He was signed in late April.

The move leaves the Giants with two backup passers behind Eli Manning: Ryan Nassib and Curtis Painter. Both have a much-improved chance on making the team with Freeman out of the picture.

Freeman was cut early into the 2013 season by the Buccaneers after leading them to an 0-3 start. He was signed by the Vikings, only to play in just one game for them. He totaled 761 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions last year.

Josh Freeman still views himself as 'starting-caliber' QB

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(4/23/2014) New Giants signal caller Josh Freeman said he still views himself "as a starting-caliber quarterback," reports The Star-Ledger.

"I love the situation because I have the opportunity to be around a guy that really had a lot of success, year after year and continues to win and get his team to the playoffs consistently," Freeman said, referring to Giants starter Eli Manning. "It's a really, really cool opportunity."

While Manning recovers from ankle surgery. Freeman will get a chance to prove himself in OTAs and minicamp.

Josh Freeman signs with Giants

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(4/16/2014) The Giants have signed quarterback Josh Freeman, reports FOX Sports.

Freeman spent last season with the Buccaneers and Vikings. His only appearance for Minnesota was against the Giants, and he completed 20 of 53 passes for 190 yards and an interception.

Freeman will try and make the final roster for the Giants as a backup to Eli Manning, who is coming off ankle surgery this offseason. The Giants also have Curtis Painter and Ryan Nassib on the roster.

Josh Freeman to work out for Giants

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(4/11/2014) Free agent quarterback Josh Freeman will work out for the Giants, reports Bleacher Report.

Freeman, who finished last season with the Vikings after being cut by the Buccaneers, has also visited the Bears this offseason. The Giants could use Freeman as a veteran backup to Eli Manning ahead of second-year passer Ryan Nassib.

Bears host Josh Freeman

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(4/7/2014) Free agent quarterback Josh Freeman visited the Bears on Monday, reports CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora. Chicago needs a backup quarterback after losing Josh McCown to the Buccaneers.

Raiders 'looking at' Josh Freeman

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(3/16/2014) The Raiders are "looking at" free agent quarterback Josh Freeman, who bombed with the Buccaneers and Vikings last season, reports NFL Network. Oakland also would be interested in Texans quarterback Matt Schaub if he's released, the report said.

Josh Freeman could be option for Raiders

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(3/7/2014) Quarterback Josh Freeman could sign with the Raiders this offseason, reports CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora.

Freeman is a free agent who spent 2013 with Tampa Bay and Minnesota. Freeman has a history from his days in Tampa Bay with current Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olsen.

The Raiders are looking for competition for Terrelle Pryor and Matt McGloin. Even if they draft a quarterback, Freeman can still compete for a job, and LaCanfora reports he will be "very, very cheap -- always a plus in Oakland."

Report: Vikings unlikely to re-sign Josh Freeman

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(2/4/2014) The Vikings are "unlikely" to bring back Josh Freeman. Even though he has arm strength that might appeal to new offensive coordinator Norv Turner, the club would have to commit resources to him that might not be warranted, particularly with potential issues stemming from his work habits and practice routines last season, ESPN says.

Freeman fell out of favor with the Buccaneers last year and was released. The Vikings picked him up and started him for one game, which he was horrible in. Freeman is likely headed toward a one-year deal as a backup.

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/2/2013) Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said he's not ready to name a starting quarterback for Week 14 at Baltimore until Christian Ponder, who left Sunday's game with a concussion, is evaluated Monday and Tuesday. Matt Cassel came off the bench Week 13 to lead Minnesota to a 23-20 overtime win vs. Chicago after Ponder was injured late in the second quarter.

Josh Freeman is also on the roster, but he's been inactive for the last six games.

Josh Freeman likely to be inactive Week 12

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/20/2013) Vikings coach Leslie Frazier announced Wednesday Christian Ponder will remain the starting quarterback Week 12 at Green Bay, despite being pulled from Sunday's loss at Seattle. Frazier said Ponder was the team's best option when asked why not start Josh Freeman.

Freeman could also be headed for another week on the inactive list since Frazier said Matt Cassel will likely be the backup quarterback Sunday.

Josh Freeman surprisingly active for Vikings

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(11/7/2013) Vikings quarterback Josh Freeman is active for the Week 10 game on Thursday night against the Redskins. That said, Christian Ponder remains the starter.

Freeman is not expected to play and was likely only active because Minnesota was dealing with too many injuries and had too many other inactive players.

According to ProFootballTalk.com, Freeman is expected to be inactive Sunday, despite being healthy. Matt Cassel will be the backup with Christian Ponder starting.

Vikings to announce starting QB for Week 9 on Friday

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Differing reports on Vikings QB starter

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(10/30/2013) It remains unknown for certain who will be behind center for the Vikings on Sunday of Week 9 at Dallas. ESPN's Ed Werder tweeted Wednesday that he is "expecting" the starter to be Josh Freeman over Christian Ponder.

That said, earlier Wednesday news was made when teammate Jerome Simpson suggested Ponder was going to be the starter.

Minnesota has remained mum on the subject and Werder's tweet is believed to be mostly conjecture. He said Ponder did nothing with his opportunity last week and the Vikings want to see what they have in Freeman.

Vikings still mum on starting quarterback

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10/30/2013) Vikings coach Leslie Frazier would not say Wednesday whether Josh Freeman or Christian Ponder will start Sunday's game at Dallas. Frazier "has an idea of who will play but is not ready to disclose it," according to the team's website.

The announcement might not come until Friday.

Ponder completed 14 of 21 throws for 145 yards in the loss to Green Bay while Josh Freeman sat out with a concussion.

Ponder "had some moments where he did some good things," Frazier said Sunday night. The coach added that "we'll sit down tomorrow and talk it through, figure out the best way to go."

Freeman was horrific in his Vikings debut Week 7, hitting 20 of 53 throws for 190 yards with an interception.
