Kindle hoping for a chance

(5/24/2012) After recovering from a fractured skull two summers ago, Ravens outside linebacker Sergio Kindle is hoping to earn some playing time in 2012. Kindle is still coping with hearing loss in his left ear following a fall down a flight of stairs in 2010. This has made it tough for him to hear calls, and he's yet to deal with crowd noise. Kindle conceded 2012 could be a "make or break year."

Recovered Kindle reports no problems

(7/31/2011) Baltimore LB Sergio Kindle said he felt fine after participating in contact drills Saturday for the first time since missing all of last season with a fractured skull. He had took part in two non-contact practices before the big test Saturday. "No issues, no concerns, no pain or anything like that," Kindle told the Baltimore Sun. "It all felt good to me."

Kindle cleared to practice

(7/27/2011) Ravens LB Sergio Kindle (head) has been cleared to practice and will not be placed on the PUP list, reports the Baltimore Sun Wednesday. Kindle fractured his skull in the summer of 2010 and missed the entire season.

Kindle cleared to play

(6/14/2011) The San Antonio Express-News reports that Ravens LB Sergio Kindle, who missed his entire rookie season with a skull fracture, said he's entirely recovered and ready to play as soon as the NFL lockout is resolved. "I got cleared to play again in March," Kindle said. "So I have to get back into it and see how it goes from there. Of course, I got cleared, but until I actually do contact, that's what's going to determine (my progress)." He was asked about his conditioning. "I had a skull fracture and some brain bruising," Kindle said. "Basically, I messed up my equilibrium. I can hardly hear out of (my left) ear any more. The doctor said it was unlikely it will come back. But it's been a while, so I've gotten used to it. I'm (100 percent) now. I've been (lifting weights) since I got to Baltimore. Now I'm actually training, football training, without the contact. Now I just have to wait and see whatever the lockout does so I can give it a shot."

Kindle pleads guilty to DUI

(5/10/2011) Ravens LB Sergio Kindle pleaded guilty Tuesday to a driving under the influence charge, but he avoided jail time. Howard County (Md.) District Court Judge Neil Edward Axel sentenced Kindle to two years of unsupervised probation. Kindle also was ordered to abstain from alcohol and attend weekly counseling sessions.

Ravens 'optimistic' on Kindle?

(3/10/2011) LB Sergio Kindle, the team's top pick in 2010, was recently evaluated by doctors in Michigan and Boston to gauge his progress after fracturing his skull in July, sidelining him for the season. “I’m more optimistic now than ever before that he has a chance to come back and play,” coach John Harbaugh said.

Kindle not cleared to play

(1/31/2011) The Carroll County Times reports that Ravens LB Sergio Kindle, who missed his rookie season when he fractured his skull days before training camp, still hasn't been medically cleared for next season by doctors. He remains hopeful that he'll play football again and coach John Harbaugh indicated that the team plans to retain the former University of Texas star, who can be kept with an exclusive-rights tender. "We love the player," said Eric DeCosta, the Ravens' director of player personnel. "We still think Sergio has a chance to be a good player for us. He's worked extremely hard to come back from the head injury that he suffered. And that's a wait-and see-thing We just keep our fingers crossed. If we're able to get him back, it will be like a bonus draft pick."

Kindle might not be back in 2011

(12/22/2010) Ravens rookie LB Sergio Kindle, who has missed all season after fracturing his skull in July when he fell down some stairs, might not be cleared to return in 2011. The former University of Texas star met with doctors at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore on Tuesday and wasn't given good news about his neurological condition. "It's up in the air from what they tell me," said Kindle, who is currently on the reserve non-football injury list. "Basically, they're just saying they don't know. They haven't dealt with an injury like mine before. They can't really give me a yes or a no with confidence. It's kind of in the middle. It's a hit or a miss. The whole point of it is, they don't know if I'll be able to take a hit just because I'm not doing anything involving contact right now."

Ravens sign Kindle

(9/23/2010) The Ravens have reached an agreement on a contract with rookie OLB Sergio Kindle, GM Ozzie Newsome announced Thursday. Kindle will be placed on the Reserve Non-Football Injury list, which means he will not play this season. Kindle fractured his skull shortly before training camp in July when he fell down two flights of stairs. Kindle, a former Big-12 standout, said recently it's just a matter of time before he returns to football. "I know I'll play football again," he said. "I don't know when, but I'm going to make it back."

Kindle's career in jeopardy

(9/17/2010) Baltimore linebacker Sergio Kindle's rookie season is likely over, and possibly his football career. Kindle fractured his skull shortly before training camp in July when he fell down two flights of stairs. The former Texas standout underwent a series of neurological exams from independent doctors in Baltimore. "He's got some serious issues that he's dealing with," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Friday after practice. "The chances of him playing this year are slim. We're going to be very, very careful. The doctors are going to very careful. Sergio is going to be very careful with that type of an injury." Kindle, a former Big-12 standout, said it's just a matter of time before he returns to football. "I know I'll play football again," he said. "I don't know when, but I'm going to make it back."

Kindle to be examined

(9/5/2010) Raves LB Sergio Kindle will travel to Baltimore on Sunday from Texas to have his head injury examined, reports Ravens Insider. Kindle will be examined by neurologists, according to a league source. Kindle, a second-round pick this spring, hurt himself falling down stairs over a month ago.

Kindle cleared to travel

(8/24/2010) The Baltimore Sun reports that Ravens LB Sergio Kindle (fractured skull) has been cleared to travel and will head to Baltimore late next week for medical tests. Kindle, a second-round pick this spring, hurt himself falling down stairs last month.

Kindle injured in fall at home

(5:26 pm ET) Baltimore Ravens top draft pick Sergio Kindle hurt his head in a fall in Texas, a mishap that will prevent him from reporting to camp on Monday. The injury occurred Thursday night while Kindle was at a house in Austin, Texas. According to the Ravens, it is believed the linebacker fell down two flights of stairs. He is in stable condition at University Medical Center Brackenridge. "Members of our medical staff, including Bill Tessendorf and Dr. Andy Tucker, have spoken with doctors in Texas," Ravens general manager and executive vice president Ozzie Newsome said in a statement Sunday. "We understand Sergio is stable at this time and that he is being tested and observed."

Ravens land LB Kindle

(4/25/2010) The Ravens secured a much-needed pass rusher by selecting Texas linebacker Sergio Kindle in the second round. Taking over for Brian Orakpo at the "Buck" position last year for the Longhorns, he produced 58 tackles (39 solos) with six sacks, leading the team with 15.0 stops behind the line of scrimmage while starting all 14 contests. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Kindle was projected to be a first-round pick in many mock drafts, but concerns about a possible knee injury and some off-field problems from his college career may have caused him to drop back to the second round. Kindle knows why the Ravens took him: "I get to the quarterback, man. That's my deal," Kindle said.
