Speculation: Browns prepared to cut Ahtyba Rubin

(3/1/2014) The Browns raised a few eyebrows earlier in the week by releasing popular veteran inside linebacker D'Qwell Jackson and could be readying to unload defensive lineman Ahtyba Rubin, per the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram.

Rubin, who has been less productive since the team switched to a 3-4 defense, is slated to earn $6.9 million in 2014. He is heading into the last season of a four-year contract.

(12/20/2013) Browns cornerback Joe Haden (hip) and wide receiver Davone Bess (personal) are the lone questionables on the injury report released by the team on Friday.

The probables are linebackers Tank Carder (shoulder) and Eric Martin (illness), running back Willis McGahee (concussion, knee), defensive lineman Ahtyba Rubin (calf), tackles Mitchell Schwartz (toe) and Joe Thomas (back), punter Spencer Lanning (knee) and safety T.J. Ward (shoulder).

(12/15/2013) The Browns injury report for Week 15 against the Bears featured six players from the defensive side of the ball, all of whom were expected to take the field Sunday.  As expected, all six are active prior to kickoff: linebackers Tank Carder (shoulder), D'Qwell Jackson (ankle), Paul Kruger (elbow) and Craig Robertson (knee); defensive lineman Ahtyba Rubin (calf); and defensive back T.J. Ward (shoulder).

They are linebackers Craig Robertson (knee), D'Qwell Jackson (ankle), Paul Kruger (elbow) and Tank Carder (shoulder), lineman Ahtyba Rubin (calif) and safety T.J. Ward (shoulder).

(10/4/2013) Browns defensive lineman Ahtyba Rubin got to the quarterback for the first time in Week 5 against the Bills Thursday, in a 37-24 win.

Rubin picked up his first sack of the season, along with a season-high eight tackles -- five solo. Rubin has 15 tackles in three games since returning from a calf injury.

(9/29/2013) Browns defensive lineman Ahtyba Rubin was decent in Week 4 against the Bengals, finishing with four tackles in a 17-6 win Sunday. All four of Rubin's stops were solo, but that was the extent of his contribution.

On the defensive side, linebacker Quentin Groves (ankle) is out; defensive end Ahtyba Rubin(calf) is questionable and was limited in practice; and strong safety T.J. Ward (shoulder) and defensive end Desmond Bryant (wrist) both participated fully in practice and are probable.

(9/6/2013) Browns left defensive end Ahtyba Rubin missed practice on Friday after sustaining a calf injury on Thursday. He is questionable for the opener Sunday against Miami, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

Rubin had played inside until the switch to a 3-4 necessitated a move to the outside. He would be replaced as a starter by either John Hughes or Billy Winn. Hughes is the most likely candidate since Winn has been playing mostly on the right side in the preseason.
