(8/26/2014) Panthers quarterback Joe Webb will be on the final 53-man roster, Panthers.com reports.

"This is an out-of-necessity move, but at the same time Joe had earned that consideration from the beginning," head coach Ron Rivera said. "It's a tough position to be in because we're going to have to let a good player go to keep an extra quarterback, but because of our situation we need to."

Cam Newton and Derek Anderson are both expected to be ready for Week 1, but Webb is due for plenty of action in the team's final preseason game Thursday.

(3/23/2014) The Panthers signed quarterback Joe Webb to a one-year deal. A sixth-round pick by the Vikings in 2010, Webb played quarterback and wide receiver in his four seasons in Minnesota but will be a quarterback for Carolina.

"Joe had a strong workout for us," coach Ron Rivera said. "He is a young player who intrigues us and has a similar skill set to Cam (Newton). With Cam sidelined for the spring, it is an opportunity to get a good evaluation of Joe as well as Matt Blanchard, who was on our practice squad last year."

(2/7/2014) Quarterback-turned-receiver Joe Webb is scheduled to be a free agent this offseason and could be on the verge of changing teams. ESPN believes the Vikings will not re-sign Webb after he worked as the fifth receiver and basically worked as a run blocker in 2013. Prior to that he quarterbacked a handful of games including a playoff game in 2012 but was never prolific.

Both players were ruled out shortly after halftime.


Vikings get minor contributors in Week 11

(11/17/2013) The Vikings received minor contributions from several role players in the passing game during Sunday's loss to the Seahawks in Week 11.

Fullback Jerome Felton caught all two of his targeted passes for 13 yards and quarterback-turned-receiver Joe Webb caught two of the three passes thrown his way for nine yards.

The Vikings will return to action in Week 12 against the Packers in Green Bay.

(10/13/2013) Vikings wide receiver Joe Webb registered his first stats of the season in Week 6, catching three fourth quarter catches for 24 yards in the team's 35-10 loss to the Panthers. 

Webb, a wide receiver converted to quarterback converted back to wide receiver, had previously caught one pass for nine yards over his three-year career. The 24 receiving yards were a career high.

The Vikings face the Giants in Week 7, on Monday night.

"I was talking to him today about one of the toughest parts of the transition is just the route-running part," Frazier said. "He has very good hands. He knows the offense very well. He's actually helping some of the young guys in where to line up at. (The hope is) he'll be able to grasp the route running part of it fast enough to give himself the best chance to go out and really have a chance to make the transition smoothly when we get to training camp. Knowing how hard he works and knowing how much he wants to succeed as a receiver, he'll have a very good chance of getting that done."

(1/5/2013) With Christian Ponder sidelined with elbow bursitis, Vikings backup quarterback Joe Webb made his first start of the season during Saturday's NFC Wild Card game at Green Bay. He was unable to find a rhythm early on as he completed 3 of 12 passes for 22 yards in the first half. With the game out of hand, Webb started to make some plays as he completed 11 of 30 passes for 180 yards with a touchdown and an interception in a 24-10 defeat. He also rushed for 68 yards on seven carries. Webb was sacked three times, including a lost fumble, and finished with a 54.9 quarterback rating.
