Panthers sign Joe Webb

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(3/23/2014) The Panthers signed quarterback Joe Webb to a one-year deal. A sixth-round pick by the Vikings in 2010, Webb played quarterback and wide receiver in his four seasons in Minnesota but will be a quarterback for Carolina.

"Joe had a strong workout for us," coach Ron Rivera said. "He is a young player who intrigues us and has a similar skill set to Cam (Newton). With Cam sidelined for the spring, it is an opportunity to get a good evaluation of Joe as well as Matt Blanchard, who was on our practice squad last year."

ESPN believes the Vikings will not re-sign Webb after he worked as the fifth receiver and basically worked as a run blocker in 2013. Frazier has promising plans for Webb

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/30/2013) Vikings coach Leslie Frazier told the ESPN Radio affiliate in Minneapolis that he hopes quarterback-turned-receiver Joe Webb can improve his route running enough in the coming weeks so that he can contribute more in training camp. "I was talking to him today about one of the toughest parts of the transition is just the route-running part," Frazier said. "He has very good hands. He knows the offense very well. He's actually helping some of the young guys in where to line up at. (The hope is) he'll be able to grasp the route running part of it fast enough to give himself the best chance to go out and really have a chance to make the transition smoothly when we get to training camp. Knowing how hard he works and knowing how much he wants to succeed as a receiver, he'll have a very good chance of getting that done."
