Big play salvages day for Cardinals DST

by Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst
(9/8/2013) The Cardinals DST gave up 27 points and 366 yards and failed to record a sack in the loss at St. Louis, but a big play by two defensive linemen salvaged the day.

In the third quarter, Rams quarterback Sam Bradford rolled out near his goal line and tried to hit tight end Lance Kendricks in the flat. Defensive end Matt Shaughnessy batted the ball up, and defensive tackle Dan Williams corralled it at the 2 and scored.

Safety Tyrann Mathieu created the other turnover, stripping Jared Cook just before the tight end would have scored in the first quarter. Javier Arenas averaged 16 yards on two kickoff returns, while Patrick Peterson had a 1-yard punt return.

The Cardinals DST, which finished with 12 points, has a difficult matchup at home next week against Detroit.
