News: The Jaguars placed defensive lineman D'Anthony Smith (concussion, neck) on injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: Smith had just 10 tackles in eight games this season. He was merely defensive line depth for Jacksonville and had no Fantasy appeal.
News: The Jaguars announced on Saturday that they placed four players on the injured reserve to go along with RB Rashad Jennings. CB David Jones, DE Aaron Morgan, RB Richard Murphy, and DT DAnthony Smith will miss the 2011 season.
Analysis: Outside of Jennings, neither player mentioned above were expected to contribute much in Fantasy play this season. Ignore them in all formats now that there season is over.
News: The Jaguars placed rookie DL DAnthony Smith on IR Tuesday with an Achilles' injury.
Analysis: A third-round pick this past spring, Smith could have played a decent amount of snaps for the Jags in 2010, but now his rookie campaign will have to wait until next year. Continue to ignore him in Fantasy IDP play.
News: Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio says "in all likelihood" DT D'Anthony Smith will be out for the year, but adds the team will take its time making a decision. Smith suffered an Achilles injury that'll require surgery.
Analysis: Smith was a big part of the team's run defense plan, but not a big stat producer. Keep him off of Fantasy rosters.
News: The Jaguars have signed rookie DT D'Anthony Smith to a contract. Smith was the club's third-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the 74th pick overall. Length and terms of the contract are undisclosed. Smith was a two-time first-team All-Western Conference (WAC) selection at Louisiana Tech. He started 44 of 49 games and finished his career with 23.5 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks along with 197 tackles. He was the first Louisiana Tech player to be drafted since 2007 and the highest selection since 1999. Smith, 22, played in the Senior Bowl alongside Jaguars first-round pick Tyson Alualu.
Analysis: Smith will compete for playing time along the Jaguars defensive line, but he has minimal Fantasy value. He is not worth drafting in the majority of IDP leagues this year.
News: In addition to selecting Cal DT Tyson Alualu with the 10th pick in the NFL draft, the Jaguars drafted several defensive players: La. Tech DT D'Anthony Smith (third round), Central Arkansas DE Larry Hart (fifth round), Murray State DE Austen Lane (fifth round) and James Madison CB Scotty McGee (sixth round).
Analysis: With Hart and Lane far from polished pass-rushing talents, McGee likely relegated to special-teams play and Smith unlikely to post many stats from the defensive tackle position, the entire defensive side of the Jaguars' draft class seems to be a wash for Fantasy owners. Keep them all off of rosters.
