LB Daryl Washington suspended for season

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/30/2014) Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington has been suspended for the entire 2014 season for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. He was suspended four games last season for violating the same policy.

"It's completely unacceptable that Daryl has once again put us in this position," Cards general manager Steve Keim said in a statement. "We all know what the consequences are and will deal with them. From a personal standpoint, our hope is that this suspension will give Daryl the opportunity to accept the necessary help and guidance to get his life back on track and we will certainly support him however we can."

Washington had 134 total tackles and nine sacks in 2012 and 75 total hits and three sacks in 12 games last season.

Wide receiver Brittan Golden (hamstring) is out while tight end Rob Housler (groin), defensive end Frostee Rucker (calf) and tackle Bradley Sowell (illness) are questionable.

Cardinals DST keeps forcing turnovers

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10/13/2013) The Cardinals DST produced at least two turnovers for the third straight week in the 32-20 loss at San Francisco. But the defense had no answer for 49ers tight end Vernon Davis, who caught eight passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns.

Safety Yeremiah Bell intercepted Colin Kaepernick at the goal lline, and linebacker Daryl Washington recovered a Kaepernick fumble. Defensive tackle Darnell Dockett had a sack. Defensive end Calais Campbell and linebacker Karlos Dansby combined for a sack.

The Cardinals DST probably will be without Campbell when it plays Seattle on Thursday. Campbell was taken off the field on a stretcher in Week 6.

Daryl Washington to start immediately upon return

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/30/2013) Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Monday linebacker Daryl Washington will be immediately inserted into the starting lineup Week 5 vs. Carolina after he finished serving a four-game suspension.

Daryl Washington needs big year

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/28/2013) Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington needs to have a good season to keep his spot on the roster after this year, reports Joel Corry, a former sports agent who writes for CBSSports.com.

The Cardinals rewarded Washington's breakout 2011 season with a four-year, $32.03 million contract extension right before the start of the 2012 regular season. Washington followed up his breakout year with a 2012 season in which he was named second-team All-Pro and led NFL inside linebackers with nine sacks.

The 2010 second-round pick has been suspended for Arizona's first four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. Washington could miss additional games for a personal conduct policy involving a domestic violence incident.

The Cardinals signed Karlos Dansby as insurance after learning of Washington's status. Coach Bruce Arians has indicated Washington could be skating on thin ice because of his conduct.

Washington has a $10 million option bonus payable on the first day of the 2014 league year (March 11). If the Cardinals aren't comfortable that Washington has learned from his mistakes, they could decide he is more trouble than he is worth before the payment is due.

Daryl Washington walking 'thin line'

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/19/2013) Cardinals coach Bruce Arians is concerned about linebacker Daryl Washington and his off-field behavior. Washington is due in court in early July for the next proceedings related to assault charges brought against him following a May arrest for allegedly grabbing his girlfriend by the throat and throwing her to the floor.

Should that case reach a conclusion before the start of the 2013 season, Washington could face discipline from the league under the Personal Conduct Policy and that might extend his early season absence beyond the four-game suspension Washington will serve for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.

"Well, it’s all up to him. He's had double incidents and, as an organization, that throws a red flag up," Arians said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. "But I think Daryl is a very bright young man who understands the mistakes he's made, and he's walking a very thin line in the league right now. Super talented, but you have to adhere to the rules."

Washington arrested Friday

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/3/2013) NFL.com reports that after investigating Daryl Washington for an alleged domestic dispute Wednesday, Phoenix police arrested the Cardinals linebacker. Washington has been booked on two counts of aggravated assault, according to Maricopa County court documents Friday. The charges stem from an incident in which a woman alleged that she was the victim of a domestic violence assault involving Washington. This has been a disastrous offseason for Washington. It was only a month ago that he was suspended four games for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse. "This is a legal matter, and I am limited in what I can say other than that my lawyer and I will continue to cooperate with investigators and welcome the opportunity for all the facts to be presented," Washington said in a statement. "I regret that the situation has brought this kind of attention to my family and my team. I look forward to resolving it as soon as possible."
