News: The New York Daily News reports Jets running back Mike Goodson expects to practice next week. He didn't practice this week in the wake of being arrested on drug and weapons charges. A hearing is scheduled for June 12.
Analysis: Maybe the Jets are planning to have Goodson as part of their plan for 2013 after all. Between the courts and the league there's no guarantee that Goodson will play for all of the 2013 season. For now owners shouldn't have him on their radars, though if his attorney is as innocent as he suggests, that would change before the majority of people hold their Fantasy drafts.
News: The Newark Star-Ledger has learned Jets running back Mike Goodson will plead not guilty to drug and weapons charges stemming from a mid-May arrest. His lawyer is confident jail time will be avoided. A hearing is scheduled for June 12.
Analysis: Goodson is taking in Jets workouts from the sideline, a sure sign that his roster spot is up in the air. Between the courts and the league there's no guarantee that Goodson will play for all of the 2013 season. For now owners shouldn't have him on their radars, though if his attorney is as innocent as he suggests, that would change before the majority of people hold their Fantasy drafts.
News: As the Jets opened OTA practices on Monday running back Mike Goodson was on the sidelines. Goodson was slated to work in the rotation at running back but was arrested last week on drug and weapon charges. There's been speculation that Goodson's spot on the roster is in jeopardy because of his incident. "Still in fact-finding mode," Jets owner Woody Johnson told NFL Network regarding Goodson, adding GM John Idzik and coach Rex Ryan will talk to him about it further.
Analysis: By not practicing, Goodson can't get hurt. Players who get hurt practicing are promised the entirety of their annual contract. This suggests the Jets are non-committal to Goodson at this point and could move on from him. With Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight still on the roster, Goodson could be cut without much worry from the coaches or front office. We'll see what happens but Goodson shouldn't be on anyone's Fantasy team.
News: ESPN reports that Jets general manager John Idzik has a decision to make on the future of running back Mike Goodson after Friday's arrest on drug and weapon charges. The report says Idzik cut two players arrested recently for possession of marijuana, Claude Davis and Cliff Harris. But that doesn't mean he will take the same approach with Goodson, whose contract includes a $1 million signing bonus. The bonus is divided into payouts, and the report says he has yet to receive the full amount; he has pocketed at least $500,000. If Idzik tries to send a message and decides to cut him before the legal process plays out, it would be harder to recoup the money, according to a source. He'll have a better chance if he waits for the courts (and the league) to rule on the matter.
Analysis: It sounds like Goodson's days with the Jets are numbered, but if the legal process comes down in his favor he could remain with the team. But based on the reports of his arrest and the new regime with the Jets, they could decide to part ways, especially since they still have Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight on the roster. Keep an eye on what develops, but don't plan on drafting Goodson in the majority of leagues.
News: Jets running back Mike Goodson was arrested on drug and weapon charges early on Friday morning, reports News 12 in New Jersey. According to the report, Goodson and another man were found intoxicated in a parked SUV along Route 80 in Denville, New Jersey, which is about 15 miles northwest of the Jets' headquarters in Florham Park. A loaded .45-caliber handgun with hollow-point bullets was found in the SUV and when the 25-year-old running back was transported to a hospital for evaluation, marijuana was discovered in his possession. The Jets signed Goodson to a three-year, $6 million contract on March 15 to compete for a starting job this season. Goodson's deal with the Jets included a $1.93 million guaranteed. CBSSports.com blogger Will Brinson researched that illegal possession of hollow point bullets is a "crime of the fourth degree" in New Jersey, which appears to be among the states with the strictest laws regarding the ammunition.
Analysis: Goodson could be headed to prison, not to mention an NFL suspension, if found guilty of this crime. Before this incident we expected him to be No. 2 on the depth chart behind Chris Ivory. Now there's no telling just how far he'll fall. For the time being there's no reason to spend anything more than a late-round flier on Goodson since his playing time was going to be fairly limited to begin with.
News: ESPN reports that new Jets running back Mike Goodson is the favorite to be New Yorks starting running back next season ahead of Bilal Powell. Goodson signed a three-year, $6.9 million contract with the Jets this offseason. He finally gets a chance to start after backing up running backs like Darren McFadden in Oakland and Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams in Carolina. Goodson has averaged 4.5 yards per carry in his career and should get plenty of carries for the first time in New York.
Analysis: Goodson has plenty of sleeper appeal, especially if he beats out Powell as expected. Keep in mind though that Goodson has been injury prone, and the Jets offense will be easy to defend barring a significant upgrade at quarterback. We consider Goodson a No. 3 Fantasy running back this year, and he's worth drafting with a mid-round pick.
News: While Jets running backs coach Anthony Lynn called the competition for the starting job at his position "wide open," he also spoke quite highly of new rusher Mike Goodson. "Goodson is a guy I've had my eyes on for a long time," Lynn told the official team website. "He has always been a dynamic back, an explosive back. He is fast, he is quick, he can catch and he is a great athlete. With the offense we are in now and with that skill set, its going to be a good combination."
Analysis: We're cautiously optimistic the Jets are done adding contenders to the running back position so that Goodson gets an opportunity to start and post 15-plus touches per week. Goodson spent last season with the Raiders after three with the Panthers, all in a backup capacity. In sporadic work with Oakland he had 221 yards on just 35 carries (6.3 avg.) and 195 yards on 16 catches (12.2 avg.) with a score. He had five plays of 20-plus yards on his 51 touches. That explosiveness could go a long way with the Jets. Injuries have been to blame for Goodson's lack of playing time as well as being buried on depth charts. Consider him a breakout candidate worth a mid-round pick in the Round 8 neighborhood.
News: ESPN reports the Jets have signed running back Mike Goodson to a three-year deal worth $6.9 million. He's expected to battle for the starting job with Bilal Powell in training camp this summer in the team's new West Coast offense.

News: The New York Daily News reports the Jets are targeting running back Mike Goodson in free agency with the intention of having him replace Shonn Greene. Goodson spent last season with the Raiders after three with the Panthers, all in a backup capacity. In sporadic work with Oakland last season Goodson was excellent, gaining 221 yards on just 35 carries (6.3 avg.) and 195 yards on 16 catches (12.2 avg.) with a score. He had five plays of 20-plus yards on his 51 touches.
Analysis: Goodson figures to be a decent West Coast running back even though he doesn't have much of a track record to prove it. Injuries have been to blame for Goodson's lack of playing time as well as being buried on depth charts. In New York he'd likely split reps with the likes of Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight. It's enough to make him draft worthy with a mid- to late-round pick. We'll see if it happens.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson was ejected in the second quarter of Week 17 against the Chargers after getting into an altercation with linebacker Takeo Spikes. Both players were ejected from the game after two got locked up on a pass play in the second quarter. Goodson had just one carry for 9 yards prior to leaving the contest.
Analysis: This is a fitting ending for Goodson as his first season in Oakland did not turn out the way most had hoped. The 25-year-old racked up 221 rushing yards on 35 carries for the Raiders but ended up missing four games due to an ankle injury. Still, he did contribute in the passing game as he hauled in 16 receptions for 164 yards and a score. However, Goodson's first year in Oakland can be labeled as a bust and he won't have much Fantasy appeal heading into next season.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson will be looking to get back in the end zone in Week 17 against the Chargers. Goodson has only scored one touchdown this season, which came through the air back in Week 2. He will now be facing a San Diego defense that is allowing an average of 95.1 yards rushing per game. The Chargers have surrendered nine touchdowns on the ground while surrendering an average of 16.7 Fantasy points to opposing RB, which ranks 17th overall.
Analysis: Goodson has been a bit of a bust in his first year in Oakland as he has failed to make the type of impact most were expecting him to. The 25-year-old will once again be used as Darren McFadden's primary backup again this week but he looks to have a tough matchup on tap. The Chargers have been good at defending the run this season, although they have surrendered four rushing TDs over the last two games. Still, only owners in the deepest of formats should consider rolling with Goodson as a flex option this week.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson was limited to a reserve role in Week 16 against the Panthers, as he rushed for 12 yards on four carries. Both totals ranked second on the team. He also added one reception for 8 yards, while being targeted once in a 17-6 loss.
Analysis: Goodson was facing his former team for the first time, and he did not give them much to remember him by. He has been little used this season, and is unlikely to see his role grow in Week 17 against the Chargers. Leave him on the bench in the vast majority of Fantasy formats.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson makes his first trip back to Carolina Week 16 since the Panthers traded him to Oakland in the offseason. Goodson spent the 2009-11 seasons with the Panthers. He made three starts in 2010. Running backs have totaled 10 rushing touchdowns against Carolina, with seven coming in the last eight games. Running backs average 106.9 rushing yards, 47.2 receiving yards and 18 Fantasy points per week against the Panthers.
Analysis: Goodson had his best game with the Raiders in Week 15, rushing for a season-high 89 yards on 13 carries. However, most of those yards came on a 43-yard run in the fourth quarter. Goodson wasn't getting much work in the beginning of the season and then missed four games with an ankle injury. If the Raiders are in a close game Sunday against the Panthers or are trailing, then Goodson might not get much work. While he is coming off a promising game Week 15 and would surely like to do well against his former team, now is not the time to start trusting Goodson in Fantasy.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson turned in his most productive performance of the season in Week 15 against the Chiefs. Goodson, who had rushed for just 111 yards entering the contest, finished with a season-high 89 yards on 13 carries in the 15-0 win. He gained most of his yards on a 43-yard scamper in the fourth quarter, but also had runs of 11 and 14 yards in the victory. Goodson did catch one pass for 14 yards to finish with a season-best 103 yards on 14 total touches in the victory.
Analysis: Goodson had some loft expectations entering the season, but injuries among other factors really prevented him from making much of an impact most weeks. However, the 25-year-old finally appears to be fully healthy and offered a small glimpse of what he can bring to the table when that is the case. It appears the Raiders will continue to use Goodson as Darren McFadden's primary backup moving forward, which should at least assure him of seeing a handful of touches when the Raiders take on the Panthers in Week 16. Still, at this point in the season, only owners in the deepest of formats should consider using Goodson as a flex option against Carolina next Sunday.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson was not involved in the running game during Thursday's contest against the Broncos in Week 14. Goodson was utilized in kick return duties and took a backseat to Darren McFadden and Marcel Resse in the running game. McFadden, who came back from a high-ankle sprain, re-aggravated his ankle injury in the final minutes in the fourth quarter and was unable to finish the game, according to head coach Dennis Allen.
Analysis: Though Goodson was not involved in the running game on Thursday, that could all change depending on McFadden's status. We'll continue to monitor his progress moving forward. Goodson is the third running back on the depth chart and even if McFadden can't play in Week 14 at home against the Chiefs, he'll serve as Reece's backup. If McFadden returns, then Goodson should be viewed as low-end option in the deepest of Fantasy formats heading into Week 15.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson was officially listed as active for Thursday night's game against the Broncos in Week 14 despite dealing with a lingering ankle injury. He had missed his previous four games and will face a Denver defense that has allowed 96.4 rushing yards per game, which is the seventh fewest allowed in the league.
Analysis: Goodson is expected to take a backseat behind Darren McFadden, who is likely to return against the Broncos on Thursday. He is also set to backup Marcel Reece, who has emerged during McFadden's absence. At this point, Fantasy owners should view him as a low-end option in deeper formats heading into Week 14.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson was listed as probable for Thursday night's contest against the Broncos despite dealing with a lingering ankle injury. Goodson has now missed his last four games, but is expected to play Thursday. Goodson will face a Denver defense that has allowed 96.4 rushing yards per game, which is the seventh fewest allowed in the league.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson was listed among the inactives for the fourth straight game in Week 13 against the Browns as he continued to deal with an ankle injury. With Darren McFadden (ankle) also out, Marcel Reece continued to start for Oakland.
Analysis: Goodson was limited in practice the week leading up to Sunday but he was still unable to return. He is worth stashing away in deeper formats as a handcuff option but at this stage of the season, owners might want to part ways with the 25-year-old.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson was able to practice for the third straight day Friday and is being considered as questionable for Week 13 against the Browns. Goodson has missed the previous three games due to an ankle injury.
Analysis: Goodson was limited in practice the week leading up to Sunday but it looks as though he should be able to return. Keep an eye out for the inactives before the contest against the Browns. Darren McFadden is also being considered as questionable for Week 13 and if both remain out, Marcel Reece will continue to start for the Raiders. Goodson would be worth a look in deeper formats if he stands to see some carries against Cleveland but owners would be best to keep the 25-year-old reserved.
News: Raiders running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson, who have been sidelined for three games with high-ankle sprains, practiced for a second straight day Thursday, increasing their chances of return to action Week 13 vs. Cleveland.
Analysis: It's going to be interesting to see how Goodson works back into the offense. Coach Dennis Allen said Marcel Reece, who thrived with McFadden and Goodson sidelined, has earned the right to continue to see reps on offense, so Goodson could see even less playing time than he had before getting hurt. Even though Goodson is on track to play Week 13, he is not a recommended Fantasy option at this time.
News: Raiders running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson, who have missed the last three games with high-ankle sprains, returned to practice Wednesday as the team prepares for Week 13 vs. Cleveland.
Analysis: Goodson really missed a golden opportunity to make an impact with McFadden sidelined. Marcel Reece has thrived while McFadden and Goodson have been out. Therefore, Reece could pull backup duty to McFadden once he returns to action. Goodson is still worth holding onto in deeper Fantasy formats, but the complexion of the Raiders' backfield could have changed thanks to Reece's emergence.
News: Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Monday he received positive reports from the trainers and indicated he is "hopeful" injured running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson, who have missed the last three games with high-ankle sprain, will practice Wednesday. Oakland hosts Cleveland Week 13.
Analysis: Goodson really missed a golden opportunity to make an impact. Marcel Reece has thrived while McFadden and Goodson have been sidelined. Therefore, Reece could pull backup duty to McFadden once he returns to action. Goodson is still worth holding onto in deeper Fantasy formats, but the complexion of the Raiders' backfield could have changed thanks to Reece's emergence.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson has been ruled out for Week 12 against the Bengals as he continues to deal with an ankle injury. It will be the third consecutive game he misses. Marcel Reece is expected to start for Oakland again.
Analysis: The Raiders have gotten outstanding play out of Reece that the team can afford to be patient with Goodson. Keep an eye on his status going forward to see when he might be able to return. Goodson has gained 111 yards on 17 carries this season and should be considered as more of a handcuff option, when healthy.
News: Raiders running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson, who have missed the last two games with high-ankle sprains, did not return to practice Wednesday. If they are sidelined again Week 12 at Cincinnati, then running back Marcel Reece will continue to start in their absence. Running backs average 98.1 rushing yards and 18.2 Fantasy points per week against Cincinnati. Running backs have totaled 10 touchdowns (nine rushing) against the Bengals.
Analysis: The Raiders have gotten outstanding play out of Reece that the team can afford to be patient with McFadden and Goodson. Even if Goodson returns and McFadden sits Sunday, the Raiders probably will still lean on Reece in that scenario. Fantasy owners should continue to track Goodson's progress, but right now he is not a recommended Fantasy start for Week 12.
News: The San Francisco Chronicle reports Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Monday he's hopeful running back Darren McFadden, who has missed two games with an ankle injury, and the other injured Raiders' players are able to play Week 12 at Cincinnati. CSN California reports running back Mike Goodson, who has missed the last two games with an ankle injury as well, is out of a walking boot.
Analysis: The Raiders have gotten outstanding play out of Marcel Reece that the team can afford to be patient with McFadden and Goodson. Both players haven't practiced the last two weeks. Even if Goodson returns and McFadden sits Sunday, the Raiders probably will still lean on Reece in that scenario. Fantasy owners should continue to track Goodson's progress, but right now he is not a recommended Fantasy start for Week 12.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson was listed among the inactives for Week 11 against the Saints. It was the second straight game he missed due to an ankle injury. With Darren McFadden (ankle) also out again, Marcel Reece started for the second straight week.
Analysis: Goodson would likely be starting with McFadden out but his own injury continues to keep him sidelined. He was still sporting a walking boot earlier this week and his return date remains undetermined so keep an eye on his status going forward. Goodson remains a decent handcuff option in Fantasy so continue to stash him away in deeper formats at this point.
News: Oakland running back Mike Goodson was ruled out for Week 11 against New Orleans on Friday as he continues to recover from a high ankle sprain. Goodson was unable to practice over the past week and will miss his second straight game with the injury. Darren McFadden was also ruled out as Marcel Reece is expected to draw additional work against the Saints, who rank 31st in the NFL in run defense (162 yards per game).
Analysis: Goodson was still sporting a walking boot earlier this week and his return date remains undetermined. The 25-year-old has amassed just 111 yards on 17 carries while serving as McFadden's backup this season, but has made a larger impact in the passing game (14 receptions for 173 yards and a touchdown). Still, he's worth reserving only in deeper Fantasy formats while obviously sitting in Week 11.
News: Raiders running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson, who both sat out Week 10 with high-ankle sprains, did not return to practice Thursday, decreasing their chances of playing Week 11 vs. New Orleans. The Saints rank 31st in the league in run defense, giving up 162 yards per contest, and have allowed an average of 22.8 Fantasy points per week to running backs.
Analysis: It's not surprising to see Goodson sidelined Thursday after coach Dennis Allen said Wednesday he remained in a walking boot. We aren't expecting Goodson to return Week 11, so Fantasy owners should plan to start a healthier alternative. If you own Marcel Reece, then he is a viable replacement because of the favorable matchup. He has elevated value in PPR formats.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson, who sat out Week 10 with a high-ankle sprain, did not return to practice Wednesday as the team prepares for Week 11 vs. New Orleans. Coach Dennis Allen said Goodson remained in a walking boot Wednesday and his status is questionable for Sunday's game. The Saints rank 31st in the league in run defense, giving up 162 yards per contest, and have allowed an average of 22.8 Fantasy points to opposing running backs.
Analysis: It's still unknown if Goodson or starter Darren McFadden, who also sat out Week 10 with a high-ankle sprain and missed practice Wednesday, will return to action Week 11 vs. New Orleans. If Goodson sits out again, then he continues to miss a golden opportunity to be the Raiders' feature back since McFadden is also banged up. The Saints also present a favorable matchup. Keep tabs on Goodson's progress. If he returns Week 11 and McFadden sits, then he could be a nice bye-week Fantasy replacement.
News: Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Monday running back Mike Goodson, who sat out Week 10 at Baltimore because of a high-ankle sprain, remained in a walking boot Monday.
Analysis: It's still unknown at this juncture if Goodson or starter Darren McFadden, who also sat out Week 10 with a high-ankle sprain and remains in a walking boot, will return to action Week 11 vs.
News: As expected, Raiders running back Mike Goodson was declared inactive for Sunday's game against the Ravens. He is dealing with a high ankle sprain suffered in Week 9 and, while the team will keep his status updated on a week-to-week basis, high ankle sprains generally knock players out for at least a few weeks. Goodson was sporting a walking boot earlier this week.
Analysis: Goodson would have been the no-doubt starter for the Raiders if he wasn't hurt, as Darren McFadden left Week 9 with the same injury. As it is, Goodson now has to sit on the sideline and watch either Marcel Reece or Taiwan Jones gain momentum, with a juicy Week 11 matchup against New Orleans on the horizon. While Goodson may lose his handcuff status if an Oakland RB takes off this week, he still retains value in case he makes it back before McFadden, and Reece and Jones falter. But approach Goodson as if he won't be playing in Week 11, and possibly beyond.
News: As anticipated, Oakland running back Mike Goodson (ankle) will not play in Week 10 at Baltimore after being ruled out Friday. Goodson sustained a high ankle sprain during the Raiders' last game and was sporting a walking boot earlier this week. He will join Darren McFadden on the sideline as he was ruled out with the same injury. Oakland is expected to turn to Taiwan Jones and Marcel Reece in the backfield against the Ravens.
Analysis: Goodson's absence Sunday is not as crucial for Fantasy owners as McFadden's as the 25-year-old has only gained 111 yards on 17 attempts this season. He has also been held out of the end zone in eight games this year, his first with the Raiders after spending two years with the Panthers. Without a timetable for his return, Fantasy owners should keep Goodson on rosters in the majority of formats at this point.
News: The Raiders took the practice field Thursday once again without injured running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson, who both sustained high-ankle sprains Week 9. Coach Dennis Allen said both players were in walking boots Thursday. The Raiders are expected to use Taiwan Jones and Marcel Reece at running back if McFadden and Goodson are not available. Jones worked with the first-team offense Wednesday.
Analysis: The Raiders continue to treat Goodson as day to day, but we aren't holding out much hope for him to play Week 10. We expect Jones and Reece to pace the rushing attack Sunday. If Goodson's status improves, then we will let you know. But as of now, don't plan on using him in Fantasy Week 10.
News: Raiders running back Darren McFadden, who suffered a high-ankle sprain Week 9, did not practice Wednesday as the team prepares for Week 10 at Baltimore. Backup running back Mike Goodson, who also sustained a high-ankle sprain Sunday, did not practice as well. Coach Dennis Allen said he will let the week play out before determining if McFadden and Goodson will play Sunday. The Raiders are expected to use Taiwan Jones and Marcel Reece at running back if McFadden and Goodson are not available.
Analysis: It's very unfortunate Goodson was injured in the same game as McFadden because this would be a golden opportunity for him to make an impact if McFadden has to miss time. But now Goodson, whose MRI came back negative, is likely to McFadden on the sidelines Week 10. It's bad timing as well because the Ravens present a favorable matchup. Continue to track Goodson's progress. If it looks as though he might play Week 10 and McFadden will sit out, then it could be worth taking a flier on Goodson Week 10. For now, plan to use healthier alternatives.
News: Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Monday running back Darren McFadden suffered a high-ankle sprain Week 9 vs. Tampa Bay. He said X-rays and MRI were negative. Allen said he hasn't ruled out McFadden for Week 10 at Baltimore and the team will continue to monitor his progress. Allen said backup running back Mike Goodson also sustained a high-ankle sprain and is in the same boat as McFadden. Allen refused to commit to a game plan for Week 10 if McFadden and Goodson are out, but as of now Taiwan Jones is listed as the team's third-string running back.
Analysis: It's very unfortunate Goodson was injured in the same game as McFadden because this would be a golden opportunity for him to make an impact if McFadden has to miss time. But now Goodson might join McFadden on the sidelines Week 10. It's bad timing as well because the Ravens present a favorable matchup. Continue to track Goodson's progress. If it looks as though he might play Week 10 and McFadden will sit out, then it could be worth taking a flier on Goodson Week 10.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson left Week 9 against the Buccaneers with a right ankle injury. Goodson was injured at the end of the third quarter while being tackled right near the goal line. He was seen trying to loosen up his injury on the sidelined but was ruled out for the remainder of the game. Goodson failed to gain any yards rushing on his two carries but did haul in six receptions for 52 yards prior to leaving the contest.
Analysis: Goodson came on for the injured Darren McFadden Sunday, but now has his own injury to deal with. However, the Raiders have yet to announce the severity of his injury, so owners will have to check back for the latest details as they become available. Goodson will be counted on to shoulder the load in the running game if McFadden misses any time moving forward.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson has been ruled active for Week 9 against the Buccaneers. He was able to practice in full the week leading up to Sunday despite leading with turf toe. Tampa Bay enters the contest ranked sixth in run defense, allowing an average of just 85.1 yards rushing per game. The Buccaneers have surrendered six touchdowns on the ground while yielding an average 14.1 Fantasy points to opposing RBs thus far.
Analysis: Goodson gained just 22 yards on four carries in Week 8 against the Chiefs as he continues to see minimal work behind Darren McFadden in Oakland. He is more of a handcuff option at this point so plan on keeping him reserved in the majority of Fantasy formats for Week 9.
News: Oakland running back Mike Goodson practiced in full for the third straight day despite dealing with a turf toe issue. He is listed as probable for Sunday's contest against the Buccaneers in Week 9. Tampa Bay enters the contest ranked sixth in run defense, allowing an average of just 85.1 yards rushing per game. The Buccaneers have surrendered six touchdowns on the ground while yielding an average 14.1 Fantasy points to opposing RBs thus far. Goodson gained just 22 yards on four carries in Week 8 against the Chiefs and will be looking to bounce back.
Analysis: Goodson does not seem to be bothered enough with his toe injury to miss any playing time for now. He'll try to dress up on Sunday but as always, will serve as Darren McFadden's primary backup, which has limited his workload this season. Unless something happens to McFadden, Goodson likely won't get much of a chance to show what he can do and should be considered merely a handcuff option heading into Week 9.
News: Coach Dennis Allen said running back Mike Goodson "a little bit of a turf toe" during Oakland's win over the Chiefs last week but is hoping he could play in Week 9 against the Buccaneers. Goodson gained just 22 yards on four carries in the 26-16 win and will be facing a Buccaneers defense that is allowing an average of just 85.1 rushing yards per contest.
Analysis: Goodson is almost guaranteed to wind up on the injury report this week, so owners will have to keep an eye on his status leading up to kickoff. The 25-year-old continues to serve as Darren McFadden's primary backup, which limits his touches most weeks. Unless something happens to McFadden, Goodson likely won't get much of a chance to show what he can do and should be considered merely a handcuff option heading into Week 9.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson was not much of a factor in Week 8 against the Chiefs. Goodson gained just 22 yards on four carries in the 26-16 win and was unable to find the end zone. Darren McFadden led the way for the Raiders as he racked up 114 yards on the ground on 29 carries.
Analysis: Goodson did not see a ton of touches Sunday afternoon, but owners should be getting used to that by now. The 25-year-old has never had more than four carries in any one game and has just 15 total carries on the season while serving as McFadden's primary backup. Unless something happens to McFadden between now and next Sunday, owners should consider Goodson merely a handcuff option heading into Week 9.
News: As expected, Raiders running back Mike Goodson (hip) was ruled active for Week 8 against the Chiefs. Goodson was able to practice all full week, despite being listed on the team's injury report. Goodson did not record a carry for the first time this season in Oakland's overtime win over Jacksonville last week. Kansas City enters the matchup ranked 22nd in run defense after allowing an average of 125 rushing yards per game. The Chiefs have surrendered five touchdowns on the ground while yielding an average of 22 Fantasy points to opposing RBs on the year.
Analysis: Goodson's injury is not expected to be limit his role in anyway Sunday, albeit he normally doesn't see much of the field anyway. He has only 11 carries this season and has never had more than four carries in any one game while serving as Darren McFadden's primary backup. Fantasy owners should consider Goodson merely a handcuff option against the Chiefs this week.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson was able to practice all week despite a hip injury, and is considered probable for Week 8 against the Chiefs. Goodson is coming off his first game of the season without a carry, so he is hoping to find a bigger role this Sunday.
Analysis: Goodson was able to practice through the hip injury, so we dont anticipate that being an issue. The issue is that his role is sporadic, at best. The 25-year-old continues to be used as Darren McFadden's primary backup, which continues to limit his touches each week. He has only 11 carries this season and has never had more than four carries in any one game. Unless something happens to McFadden, Goodson likely won't get much of a chance to show what he can do. Continue to view him as a merely a handcuff option heading into Week 8.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson is hoping to be a bit more involved in the running game during Week 8 against the Chiefs.
Analysis: Goodson is dealing with a hip injury but was able to practice in full over the last two days and should be good to go for Sunday's contest. However, the 25-year-old continues to be used as Darren McFadden's primary backup, which continues to limit his touches each week. He has only ran the ball 11 times this season and has never had more than four carries in any one game. Unless something happens to McFadden, Goodson likely won't get much of a chance to show what he can do. Continue to view him as a merely a handcuff option heading into Week 8.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson was not much of a factor in Week 7 against the Jaguars. Goodson hardly saw the field in the 26-23 overtime win as he did not record a carry. He finished with just one reception for 6 yards in the victory and also returned four kickoffs for a combined 99 yards.
Analysis: Goodson continues to serve as Darren McFadden's primary backup, which continues to limit his touches each week. However, Sunday marked the first time this season that he has yet to record a carry as the Raiders decided to stick with McFadden for most of the afternoon. While Goodson looks to have the talent to make an impact in Fantasy, he likely won't get the chance to prove what he can do unless something happens to McFadden. Continue to view him as merely a handcuff option heading into Week 8.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson posted a season-high 59 yards rushing his last time out and could find some room to run again in Week 7 against the Jaguars. Jacksonville ranks 30th in the league in run defense, giving up 163 yards per game, and has allowed an average of 27.2 Fantasy points to opposing running backs.
Analysis: Goodson is averaging 8.1 yards per run and 16.4 yards per reception behind Darren McFadden so far this season. If Oakland can build up a lead Sunday, he should see some more carries so owners should consider him a viable flex option in the deepest of formats against Jacksonville.
News: Raiders backup running back Mike Goodson had only five touches on offense Week 6 at Atlanta, but he made them count, contributing a 37-yard reception in the second quarter and 43-yard run in the fourth. The reception was his only one on the day. He had four carries for 59 yards.
Analysis: The Falcons made an afternoon of stopping starter Darren McFadden in the backfield, but Goodson managed to break off a couple of big plays. Most likely, the element of surprise was at least partially at work there. Goodson has enough speed to make a worthwhile contribution in Fantasy if something ever happens to McFadden, but in his current role, he's not particularly reliable. He's still pretty much just a handcuff option for Week 7 against the Jaguars.
News: Raiders backup running back Mike Goodson, who hasn't gotten more than three carries in a game this season, will have a decent chance of making a worthwhile contribution Week 6 at Atlanta. The Falcons rank 27th against the run, allowing 142.8 yards per game and 5.4 yards per carry. If the Raiders opt to take advantage, they'll presumably need Goodson to give starter Darren McFadden a breather from time to time.
Analysis: Of course, the Raiders have been looking to get McFadden going after facing the first- (Miami), fifth- (San Diego), 11th- (Pittsburgh) and 21st-ranked (Denver) run defenses over the first four weeks of the season, so they probably won't want Goodson to interfere too much. With a matchup like this one, he might get lucky and break a long one, but he's nothing more than a desperation option in Fantasy.
News: Oakland running back Mike Goodson had three carries for 22 yards during the Raiders' 37-6 loss at Denver in Week 4. Goodson, who posted a sterling average of 7.3 yards per carry, finished just 12 yards short of matching Darren McFadden for the team lead on 10 fewer attempts. He was listed as questionable for the game on the injury report for the second straight game because of lingering hamstring injury.
Analysis: Goodson was also targeted three times by quarterback Carson Palmer, but finished with negative yardage (minus-five) as the Raiders struggled to efficiently generate any offense. But he was able to double his rushing output from the previous three games (11) and show Oakland he can help on the ground while McFadden continues to sputter. There is no talk of a change in the backfield, but Goodson could be somebody to keep an eye on in deeper Fantasy formats. The Raiders are idle in Week 5 before traveling to Atlanta in Week 6.
News: Oakland running back Mike Goodson is active for Week 4 at Denver after dealing with a hamstring injury in practice. Goodson was listed as questionable for the second straight week on Sunday, but was able to remain active and served as the backup to starter Darren McFadden.
Analysis: With McFadden healthy and producing strong numbers, Goodson has seen limited carries this season and toted the ball just four times for eight yards this season. In fact, he has gained positive rushing yards in just two of his three outings, while being an inconsistent option in the passing game. Denver is permitting an average of 12.3 Fantasy points per game to opposing running backs, but Goodson does not earn enough playing time to make an impact. Leave him on bench in all deeper formats for Week 4.
News: Oakland running back Mike Goodson is listed as questionable on the team's injury report for Week 4 at Denver as he continues to be bothered by a lingering hamstring issue. Goodson, who was active for Week 3 after also being considered questionable, was a limited participant in practice throughout the past week. He is looking to become more involved in the Raiders' offense after carrying the ball once for just one yard last Sunday against Pittsburgh. The Broncos are yielding 98.0 rushing yards per game through three games this season.
Analysis: With running back Darren McFadden healthy and producing strong numbers, Goodson has seen limited carries this season and toted the ball just four times for eight yards this season. In fact, he has gained positive rushing yards in just two of his three outings, while being an inconsistent option in the passing game. Denver is permitting an average of 12.3 Fantasy points per game to opposing running backs, but Goodson does not earn enough playing time to make an impact. Leave him on bench in all deeper formats for Week 4 regardless of his status.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson is back on the injury report in the leadup to Week 4 against Denver, as he continues to be limited in practice as a result of a hamstring injury. He played through the injury last week against the Steelers, rushing one time for one yard.
Analysis: Goodson has made an impact at times this season, but he remains just a backup to Darren McFadden, so his value remains low. He should be considered just a handcuff option in deeper formats, when healthy, and it not worth starting.
News: After hauling 64-yard swing pass for a touchdown last week, Raiders running back Mike Goodson was nearly a non-factor in Sunday's game against the Steelers at home in Week 3. Goodson took the backseat for Darren McFadden, who rushed for over 100 yards, and had just one carry for a lone yard in a 34-31 victory. He was not involved in the passing game as he finished with no targets or catches.
Analysis: Goodson did not even get a chance to make an impact on offense as McFadden carried the bulk of the load for the Raiders and had a monster game. Goodson should be viewed as the backup to McFadden, but his value lies low for now as long McFadden sees the majority of the snaps on offense. He'll head to Denver for a tough matchup against the Broncos in Week 4. The Broncos allowed more than 100 yards rushing last week against Arian Foster and the Texans. Fantasy owners should consider him as merely a handcuff option in deeper formats heading into Week 4.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson was listed as active for Sunday's game against the Steelers despite dealing with a hamstring injury. Goodson caught three receptions for 83 yards, including a 64-yard swing pass for a touchdown last week, but was ineffective through the rest of the game.
Analysis: Goodson is cleared as he and Taiwan Jones will likely split duties behind Darren McFadden at running back for the Raiders. Running backs against Pittsburgh have averaged just 10 Fantasy points per game, which ranks seventh in the league. Fantasy owners should consider him as merely a handcuff option in deeper formats, when healthy.
News: Oakland running back Mike Goodson missed practice Friday with a sore hamstring and is officially listed as questionable for the team's Week 3 matchup against the Steelers. Goodson caught three receptions for 83 yards, including a 64-yard swing pass for a touchdown. However, he did not make much of an impact on the ground last week, as he rushed for minus-6 yards on one rush against the Dolphins. The Steelers have allowed 184 rushing yards through their first two games, while yielding just one touchdown.
Analysis: Despite the big game last week, or one big play, Goodson's value still lies more as McFadden's handcuff option than as a receiving threat. Now that his status is uncertain for Sunday, Taiwan Jones could lineup behind McFadden Sunday. Running backs against Pittsburgh have averaged just 10 Fantasy points per game, which ranks seventh in the league. Fantasy owners should consider him as merely a handcuff option in deeper formats, when healthy.
News: Oakland running back Mike Goodson is looking to build off a big game heading into a Week 3 showdown against the Steelers.
Analysis: Goodson took advantage of Darren McFadden's eye injury, which gave him the opportunity to score while he was on the bench. We expect Goodson to back McFadden up throughout the season. Still, despite the big game, or one big play, Goodson's value still lies more as McFadden's handcuff option than as a receiving threat. Running backs against Pittsburgh have averaged just 10 Fantasy points per game, which ranks seventh in the league. Fantasy owners should consider him as merely a handcuff option in deeper formats heading into Week 3.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson put up some impressive stats on Sunday, finishing second on the team in receiving yards after a big 64-yard reception in the first quarter. Goodson managed -6 yards on one rush, but made up for it with three receptions for 83 yards. He caught all three of his targets.
Analysis: Goodson's value, despite the nice numbers, still lies more in being Darren McFadden's handcuff than as a weekly receiving threat. The 64-yard run came when McFadden was on the sideline with an eye injury, so chances are the play could have gone to McFadden if he was in the game. There is no doubt right now that Goodson is the backup for the Raiders, not Taiwan Jones (who didn't register a stat on Sunday), so handcuffing owners should act accordingly. All other waiver wire speculators may want to pass on Goodson and look elsewhere for value pick-ups. Goodson faces the Steelers in Week 3.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson had two carries in Week 1 against the Chargers, gaining 13 yards and finishing second on the team in rushing. The Raiders face the Dolphins in Week 2, and Miami held Arian Foster's handcuff, Ben Tate, to just six yards on five carries in Week 1.
Analysis: Goodson, owned in 19 percent of leagues, seemingly has the backup job over Taiwan Jones, who was held out of practice on Wednesday with injured ribs. Still, Goodson is a low-level handcuff who will have little value until an injury hits Darren McFadden. He's somewhere between a bench spot and the waiver wire for now.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson did not see much action behind Darren McFadden in Week 1 against the Chargers. He gained 13 yards on two carries in the 22-14 loss. Goodson finished second on Oakland in rushing.
Analysis: Goodson is more of a handcuff option at this point as he is not expected to do much while McFadden is healthy. While there is a good chance McFadden goes down with an injury at some point this season, keep the 25-year-old stashed away in deeper Fantasy formats at this point.
News:Mike Goodson will be making his debut with the Raiders in Week 1 against the Chargers. San Diego ranked 20th in the league in run defense a year ago, giving up under 123 yards per game, and allowed an average of 16.6 Fantasy points to opposing running backs.
Analysis: Goodson spent the first three seasons of his career in Carolina and is currently listed a third on the depth chart behind Darren McFadden and Taiwan Jones in Oakland. Owners know that McFadden has had a hard time staying healthy thus far in his career so the 25-year-old is a valuable handcuff option in Fantasy. Heading into Week 1, however, Goodson should remain reserved in the majority of formats.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson was back on the field Saturday against the Lions, after exiting the teams previous game with a shoulder injury. Goodson was used all game long in returning situations, but he only saw the field on offense in the second half, as Taiwan Jones took most of the snaps with the first team when Darren McFadden was out of the game. Goodson rushed just seven times for 18 yards, while being a non-factor in the passing game.
Analysis: We have been expecting Goodson to take the upper hand in the battle for the backup running back spot, but with both he and Jones healthy for the first time this preseason, it was Jones who was working with the first and second team. He did not seem to suffer any sort of setback in the game, and the final decision about who will backup McFadden is not likely to be made until later in the preseason. For now, he remains a late-round flier option in deeper Fantasy formats, as a handcuff for McFadden owners.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson left Friday's contest against he Cardinals after suffering an apparent chest injury. Goodson sustained the injury sometime in the second quarter and did not return to the contest. He finished with 6 yards rushing on five carries prior to leaving and also lost a pair of fumbles.
Analysis: Goodson is now dealing with a shoulder injury, but the team did not offer an update on his status after the game. This is not the type of start the 25-year-old was hoping for, especially after he just returned from a neck injury. Goodson is competing with Taiwan Jones as the team's No. 2 running back but injuries may be putting him behind in the competition. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on out for latest details as they become available. As long as Goodson is healthy, he would be worth a late-round pick as McFadden's primary backup.
News: After suffering a serious-looking injury a little more than a week ago, Raiders coach Dennis Allen anticipates running back Mike Goodson playing in the team's preseason game at the Cardinals on Friday. Goodson was carted and hospitalized with a neck problem in camp but tests came back negative and he was only "sore" after the incident. Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie recently disclosed that he's been impressed with Goodson, adding that his addition made it easy for the Raiders to pass on other running backs in free agency. "Not only his feel for the game, but his mental capacity to pick up everything," McKenzie told the San Francisco Chronicle. "That was encouraging. He picked up the blitz-pickup stuff, when to release out, the timing ... that stuff, he is a natural. And he's tougher than people give him credit for. The talent is hard to hide, his slashing skills, his quickness and ability to catch the ball. You saw all that (at Texas A&M) and the few times he played at Carolina."
Analysis: We're counting on Goodson finishing second on the Raiders' running back depth chart by the end of the preseason and having a small role in the offense while Darren McFadden is healthy and a big role in the offense when McFadden is unable to play (which has happened often for him). We like the idea of drafting Goodson in Round 11 on the hunch that he's worth stashing on rosters. If you're an owner interested in drafting McFadden, adding Goodson is a must before then like in Round 9 or 10.
News: The Raiders expressed relief that running back Mike Goodson is only dealing with a bit of soreness a day after being hospitalized with a neck injury following a scary training camp hit. Goodson is back with the team but did not come out to Wednesday's practice. Coach Dennis Allen said he doesn't know when Goodson will be back but does not anticipate it taking as long as a few weeks. Goodson and Taiwan Jones were expected to compete for time as Darren McFadden's backup in Oakland. But with Jones also sidelined with a hamstring injury, former practice squader Lonyae Miller will get a chance to shine in the exhibition opener for the Raiders on Monday night against Dallas.
Analysis: We hope Goodson can return at 100 percent in time to start Week 1. He has a great outlook for this year if he can be healthy enough to back up McFadden, who has missed 19 of the past 60 games. Keep an eye on Goodson's health, and if all reports are positive then he's worth a late-round pick in all leagues, especially as a handcuff option for McFadden.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson, who suffered a neck injury during practice Tuesday, was released from Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, Calif., and returned to the team hotel, the Raiders announced. Goodson was injured during a collision with linebacker Philip Wheeler. He was examined by trainers, then taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he stayed for about four hours. A CT scan and MRI test on Goodson's neck were negative, according to the Raiders.
Analysis: Goodson's injury apparently looked much worse than it actually was as he has already been released from the hospital and is back with his teammates. Still, he will likely be held out of practice for a few days, which could hurt his chances of moving up the depth chart. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on his status moving forward. Unless Goodson finds himself as the primary backup to Darren McFadden, he won't have much Fantasy value entering the season.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson suffered a helmet-to-helmet collision with linebacker Philip Wheeler during practice Tuesday and had to be taken off the field in an ambulance, reports CSN California. Goodson was laying on the ground prone for several minutes. Goodson's legs were reportedly moving, however.
Analysis: Goodson's injury sounds serious, though at least he was able to move his extremities. Fantasy owners will have to track this injury but it does sound like he'll miss some extended time. Goodson is listed third on the depth chart for Oakland and would have low-end Fantasy value if he can make it back healthy for the season.
News: The race to back up running back Darren McFadden has taken an interesting turn. Running back Taiwan Jones is listed second on the Raiders' initial depth chart, ahead of Mike Goodson. But Jones is battling a sore hamstring, and Goodson has looked impressive.
Analysis: We still would bet on Goodson finishing the preseason as McFadden's primary backup. Jones is a nice talent with excellent speed but might not be up for a heavy workload given his small size. Goodson is worth a pick in Round 10 or so as a handcuff for McFadden while Jones is worth a gamble a couple of rounds later.
News: When the Raiders acquired rusher Mike Goodson this year from Carolina in a trade, coach Dennis Allen knew about his speed and quickness as a runner and skill as a pass receiver out of the backfield. Goodson has been all that and more so far in training camp. Darren McFadden will get the majority of carries, but Goodson should see time here and there until McFadden misses some time. I think from a mental standpoint is where I've been the most surprised, Allen said. I think he's really come in and picked up the offense. Pass protection is another area where I think he's maybe a little bit better than I gave him credit for. And then he's a guy that can be an asset for us in special teams.
Analysis: McFadden has been injury prone, missing 19 games in his four seasons and Taiwan Jones played sparingly as rookie and is seen as more of a change-of-pace back. Goodson's versatility will be welcomed in Oakland and he for now is the guy to draft with a pick in Round 9 or 10 as a handcuff for McFadden.
News: The Contra Costa Times reports that Raiders running back Mike Goodson didn't finish practice Tuesday because of a hamstring strain.
Analysis: We hope Goodson is OK, and he is competing for playing time behind starter Darren McFadden to be the No. 2 option in Oakland. That's an important role because McFadden has missed 19 games over the past four seasons. Keep an eye on what happens with Goodson, and he should be worth a late-round pick in all leagues as long as his hamstring in 100 percent.
News: The Raiders acquired running back Mike Goodson from the Panthers on Friday in exchange for offensive tackle Bruce Campbell, a trade both teams hope will improve their depth. Goodson, who ran for 501 yards and three touchdowns in three seasons with Carolina, became expendable after the team signed free agent running back Mike Tolbert earlier this month. "Being behind DeAngelo (Williams) and (Jonathan) Stewart for a couple of years has been difficult just wanting to play and being a competitor," Goodson said. "I wasn't looking to leave but anywhere that gave an opportunity, I'm definitely up for that."
Analysis: The Raiders needed depth at running back after losing Michael Bush to Chicago in free agency. Starter Darren McFadden has been injury prone, missing 19 games in his four seasons and Taiwan Jones played sparingly as rookie and is seen as more of a change-of-pace back. Goodson's versatility will be welcomed in Oakland and he might end up being the guy to draft with a middle- to late-round pick as a handcuff for McFadden if the Raiders don't add another rusher.
News: The Panthers placed RB Mike Goodson on IR Wednesday because of a hamstring injury. LB Kion Wilson and RB Josh Vaughan were added to the active roster as well.
Analysis: Goodson hasn't gotten many touches on offense this season as DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart have been healthy. Goodson had little to no Fantasy value before getting hurt, so continue to ignore him.
News: Carolina RB Mike Goodson did not get any offensive carries on Sunday of Week 4 at Chicago in a loss. Goodson was limited to kick return duty as he returned four kicks for an average of 23.5 yards.
Analysis: Goodson is good for a couple carries per game for the Panthers, but doesn't figure to see enough weekly work to matter in Fantasy leagues. Heading into Week 5 against the Saints, Fantasy owners can continue to ignore Goodson in most formats.
News: The Charlotte Observer reports that Panthers RB Mike Goodson, who has been dealing with a sore Achilles', has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Bengals. He has been in and out of practice of late, so the team is considering the move to be a precautionary measure.
Analysis: Goodson is arguably the best No. 3 RB in the NFL, but he is not close to that in Fantasy play with DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart healthy. Still, the situation should be kept up with heading into the regular season just in case it worsens. Several running backs have been lost for the season with similar injuries, so we weren't surprised to see the move. Consider Goodson to be an option to keep an eye on, though he should not be selected on Draft Day.
News: The Panthers held out RB Mike Goodson on Wednesday due to a sore Achilles, according to head coach Ron Rivera. There is optimism that he'll be OK, though his status for Friday night's game against Miami is up in the air.
Analysis: Goodson hasn't encountered many injuries in his short NFL career, so hopefully this is just a bump in the road for him. He's a talented player but is buried on the Panthers' depth chart behind DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. Until he finds playing time, Fantasy owners shouldn't touch him.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson totaled just two carries for 14 yards in Week 17 against the Falcons. He had picked up 15 yards on a carry early in the second quarter, but he fumbled at the end of the play and it was recovered by Atlanta. Goodson didn't fare much better in the passing game, as he finished with two catches for minus-11 yards.
Analysis: Despite the poor finish to the season, Goodson proved to be a nice surprise in 2010. He had to start a few weeks when Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams were hurt and even had a few 100-yard games. Goodson showed the Panthers he could hack it in the NFL and that might allow the team to let Williams walk this offseason. If that happens, then Goodson would stand to gain from a Fantasy standpoint. As of now, he is shaping up to be a late-round Fantasy flier in 2011.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson will get a second crack at the Atlanta Falcons in Week 17. Goodson rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown against Atlanta in Week 14. However, Goodson has been in a slump since then. He has just 14 carries for 24 yards and no touchdowns in his last two games. The Falcons are allowing RBs to average just 13.7 Fantasy points per week, which is sixth lowest in the NFL.
Analysis: If it wasn't for all the injuries the Panthers had in their backfield this season we might have never known if Goodson could hack it in the NFL. But he has shown he can be a feature back in the NFL. Unfortunately, as long as Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams are still in Panthers uniforms than Goodson will have to wait his turn. He will backup Stewart in Week 17, but unless he breaks off a big run, we can't recommend him as more than a No. 4 Fantasy RB or flex option.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson has taken a back seat to starter Jonathan Stewart in the running game, but the Week 16 game against the Steelers was his worst outing since October. Goodson carried the ball four times for 3 yards and added 23 yards on two receptions from QB Jimmy Clausen. He also fumbled a kickoff in the second quarter, recovered by Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Goodson was never able to establish a rhythm on Thursday night while backing up Stewart. The NFL's No. 2 defense against the run bottled him up nearly every time he got his hands on the ball. In Week 17, Goodson faces the last team to allow him to find the end zone, the Falcons. He also racked up 70 yards on the ground in that game just two weeks ago. Still, Goodson has slowed down within his backup role and we can't expect a repeat performance against Atlanta heading into next week. Consider Goodson to be a low-end Fantasy option moving forward.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson (illness) is active for the Week 16 game against the Steelers despite being listed as probable. He saw out of practice on Tuesday, but returned to full speed in Wednesday's session.
Analysis: Goodson will still sit behind RB Jonathan Stewart in the running game, not to mention it's against the NFL's best rushing defense. With this difficult matchup and his recent struggles, Goodson should really be avoided in Week 16 if possible.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson (illness) is listed as probable for the Week 16 game against the Steelers. He saw out of practice on Tuesday, but returned to full speed in Wednesday's session.
Analysis: The good news is the likely scenario that Goodson suits up on Thursday, the bad news is the opponent. Pittsburgh remains the NFL's top defense against the run, and they rank at the top against the position in Fantasy play as well. Not only have they limited all running backs to score a combined three times against them, but not a single opposing RBs has eclipsed the 100-yard mark against Pittsburgh. Either way, Goodson hasn't been much of a Fantasy factor over the last few weeks as Jonathan Stewart has taken over the majority of duties in the backfield and has been impressive. With this difficult matchup and his recent struggles, Goodson should really be avoided in Week 16 if possible.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson missed practice Tuesday with an illness. Carolina plays at Pittsburgh on Thursday night in Week 16.
Analysis: Goodson hasn't been much of a Fantasy factor over the last few weeks as Jonathan Stewart has taken over the majority of duties in the backfield and has been impressive. With this difficult matchup and his recent struggles, Goodson should really be avoided in Week 16 if possible.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson couldn't take much advantage of a great matchup in Week 15 against the Cardinals. Goodson ran 10 times for just 21 yards and caught two passes for another 27 yards.
Analysis: As has been the trend over the last few games, Goodson took a back seat to Jonathan Stewart on Sunday, as Stewart ran for 137 yards on 17 more carries than Goodson. For those folks who grabbed Goodson last month after his back-to-back 100-yard games, this might be the time to send him back to the waiver wire again, especially with Thursday's Week 16 matchup against Pittsburgh, who lead the league against the run.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson, who has run only 12 times in his last two games but for 89 yards, will try to get a little more involved in Week 15 against the Cardinals, who rank 30th against the run this season. Arizona is allowing opposing teams' running backs to average 25 Fantasy points against them in 2010.
Analysis: Goodson has taken a back seat to a now-healthy Jonathan Stewart over the last couple of games, but he's shown when he has touched the ball that he can still produce a very solid yards-per-carry average. Even though Goodson might only see limited action on Sunday, this matchup is good enough for him to be a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option. He might well have a good chance to find the end zone against an Arizona defense that has allowed 11 touchdowns in its last seven games.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson, who got only three carries last week because of a shoulder injury, got only nine carries Week 14 against the Falcons, but he made the most of them, finishing with 70 yards and a touchdown. He also caught a 6-yard pass. He was hardly a factor early, going without an offensive touch in the first quarter and rushing four times for 22 yards in the first half, but he exploded along with starter Jonathan Stewart in the second half, scoring on a 13-yard run to the right side when Stewart needed a breather after a 48-yard run in the third quarter.
Analysis: Stewart ran for 117 of his 133 yards in the second half, so apparently the Falcons defense eased up with a 17-point lead. Goodson appeared the quicker of the two backs, but he also appeared the clear backup, filling in for Stewart only when the starter needed a break. Goodson, who ran for 100 yards in back-to-back games when both Stewart and DeAngelo Williams were sidelined, could still make some big plays as a change-of-pace option, but the Panthers mostly want him returning kicks. Despite the terrific matchup Week 15 against the Cardinals, he remains a No. 3 Fantasy RB.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson, who hasn't even appeared on the practice report this week after getting only three carries last week because of a shoulder injury, might have a hard time rebounding in Week 14 even if he is back to full strength. He's facing a Falcons defense that ranks eighth against the run, allowing 98.5 yards per game. He's also splitting carries with Jonathan Stewart, who has proven more than capable of functioning as the team's primary back, rushing for 90-plus yards in back-to-back games.
Analysis: Goodson was quite a find for the Panthers when both DeAngelo Williams and Stewart were sidelined in Weeks 10 and 11, but since then, Stewart appears to have overtaken him on the depth chart. As a platoon back going against a tough run defense with a shoulder injury that most likely hasn't completely healed, Goodson is at best a low-end No. 3 Fantasy RB this week.
News: Although RB Mike Goodson said he re-injured the AC joint in his shoulder on a kickoff return in Week 13, he was not on the practice report Wednesday as Carolina prepares to host Atlanta in Week 14.
Analysis: Goodson lost his starting job to Jonathan Stewart in Week 13, but he still scored for a second straight week before getting injured. The Panthers have always been comfortable with using two backs, as was the case the last few years when DeAngelo Williams and Stewart were healthy. Goodson clearly has the confidence of the coaching staff to get touches in the red zone, but as long as Stewart is viewed as the feature back, then Goodson is a low-end Fantasy start. Consider him as such for Week 14.
News: Carolina running back Mike Goodson, who relinquished his starting role to Jonathan Stewart in the Panthers' Week 13 loss at Seattle, registered three carries for 19 yards and a touchdown before leaving in the second half with a shoulder injury suffered on a kickoff. Before the injury Goodson only saw a couple of reps and was mainly used on kickoff returns, even posting a 98-yard return for a touchdown that was negated by a penalty. The Gaston Gazette reports that he hurt his AC joint in his shoulder. Its sore right now, but it should be all right, though, Goodson said. I hurt it a couple of weeks ago on a kick return the same way.
Analysis: Following three consecutive games with at least 14 carries, Goodson's three attempts Sunday was his lowest total since Week 9 against New Orleans (one), which was before he was considered a significant part of the offense. With Stewart running well and Goodson's shoulder banged up, expectations should be lowered for the second-year rusher, especially when he takes on a good Falcons run defense in Week 14.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson missed for a second straight day Thursday for "personal reasons," which a teammate described as the birth of his child. Goodson is expected to play Sunday at Seattle, but it's unclear if he'll start. It's possible RB Jonathan Stewart could be back in the starting lineup since he ran for 98 yards vs. Cleveland and practiced more this week. Goodson has filled in admirably for a depleted Carolina rushing corps, averaging nearly 20 carries in the last three games.
Analysis: Since being named the Panthers' starter for Week 10 at Tampa Bay, Goodson has amassed 275 yards on the ground to lead the team in rushing two of the last three games. The Panthers, who have lost five consecutive games by a combined 82 points, travel to Seattle in Week 13. Despite traveling across the country, the Panthers earn a favorable matchup in Week 13 against a Seattle defense that is allowing an average of 22.0 Fantasy points per game to running backs. We expect Goodson to play and to split carries with the returning Stewart (Goodson owned a 14-12 advantage in Week 12 against Cleveland). Consider Goodson, who also had a team-high eight receptions for 81 yards on 10 targets in Week 12, a high-end No. 2 Fantasy RB in Week 13.
News: Carolina running back Mike Goodson, who has surged as the team's primary back the last three weeks, sat out Wednesday's practice because of personal reasons. Since being named the Panthers' starter for Week 10 at Tampa Bay, Goodson has amassed 275 yards on the ground to lead the team in rushing two of the last three games. The Panthers, who have lost five consecutive games by a combined 82 points, travel to Seattle in Week 13.

Consider Goodson, who also had a team-high eight receptions for 81 yards on 10 targets in Week 12, a high-end No. 2 Fantasy RB in Week 13.
News: The streak of games with 100 rushing yards for Panthers RB Mike Goodson ended at two in a 24-23 loss at Cleveland in Week 12. Goodson rushed for 43 yards with a touchdown in the first half, but he finished with only 55 yards on 14 carries, as RB Jonathan Stewart shouldered much of the rushing load after halftime. Goodson still finished with well over 100 all-purpose yards, as he nabbed eight catches for 81 yards. Despite a quiet second half, he was nearly a hero late in the game when he gained 32 yards on a reception, breaking several tackles, with under a minute left. He helped to set up a 42-yard field goal attempt that would have won the game, but K John Kasay hit the left upright as time expired.
Analysis: Early on, it looked like Goodson would continue his recent run of productivity, but as Stewart emerged in the second half, Goodson looked very ordinary. He was the Panthers' starter in Week 12, but it is not a given that he will start in Week 13 at Seattle. Despite his good numbers against the Browns, Goodson is a risky start for the coming week.
News: Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (concussion) is probable for Sunday after practicing in full for a third-straight day. It is expected that he will split reps with Mike Goodson, who has played very well in place of Stewart. No word has been given as to who will start for the Panthers.
Analysis: The fact that these guys will split against a good Browns run defense makes both very risky for Week 12. True, the Browns run defense allowed Maurice Jones-Drew to total 220 yards and a score on them last week, but they've been pretty good otherwise, limiting opposing running backs to two rushing touchdowns on the season (Rashard Mendenhall was the other). The Jets, Saints, Steelers, Patriots and Chiefs all failed to rush for 4.0 yards per carry cumulatively against the Browns, and the Panthers' running game hasn't been solid until recently when Goodson got all the reps. Figure that Goodson will be given a chance to resume a good portion of a workload but not light the world on fire. Figure him to be a No. 3 RB for Week 12.
News: Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (concussion) practiced again Thursday and looks like he could play in Week 12 at Cleveland after missing two games. Coach John Fox hasn't said who will start between Stewart and Mike Goodson, who has played well the past two weeks against Tampa Bay and Baltimore with Stewart and DeAngelo Williams (foot) out.
Analysis: Keep an eye on what happens with Stewart because if he plays that will lower the Fantasy value for Goodson. Consider Goodson a flex option at best against the Browns this week if Stewart plays. If Stewart is out then Goodson would be worth using as a low-end Fantasy RB.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson will get a much easier matchup in Week 12 than he had when he torched the Ravens for 120 rushing yards in Week 11. On Sunday, Goodson will get a shot at the Browns' defense, which ranks 21st in the league in fewest rushing yards allowed per game. However, he faces another roadblock in the return of RB Jonathan Stewart (concussion). In returning to practice on Wednesday, Stewart has positioned himself to play on Sunday, though Goodson is still the likely starter. Coming into the Week 12, Goodson has posted back-to-back 100-yard rushing games.
Analysis: Goodson received all of the carries in the Week 11 loss to Baltimore, and that almost certainly won't be the case at Cleveland. That may put a dent in Goodson's production, but he is enough of an all-purpose threat that he can be used as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy RB, especially given the matchup.
News: The Gaston Gazette reports that Panthers coach John Fox said Monday he is not sure if RB Jonathan Stewart will be back in Week 12 at Cleveland. Stewart has missed the past two games with a concussion. Fox wouldn't say if Mike Goodson would remain the starter should Stewart return. Goodson has rushed for 220 yards in the past two games against Tampa Bay and Baltimore with Stewart out, and DeAngelo Williams (foot) is also on injured reserve.
Analysis: We would like to see Goodson remain the starter against the Brown if Stewart returns because Goodson has run well the past two games. Keep an eye on what happens with Stewart, but if he's out then consider Goodson a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy RB in the majority of leagues.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson accounted for all of the team's 120 rushing yards in a 37-13 loss to Baltimore in Week 10. In addition to his 22 rushes, he also made five catches for 31 yards. His 151 all-purpose yards represented a majority of Carolina's 270 net yards on offense. Goodson's 45-yard run late in the first quarter led to the Panthers' first score, a 45-yard field goal by John Kasay.
Analysis: This was the second straight week in which Goodson rushed for at least 100 yards. The Panthers don't have too many weapons, so owners can count on the second-year back to get a fair share of touches in the weeks to come, especially with DeAngelo Williams (foot) out for the year. His value also depends heavily on whether Jonathan Stewart (concussion) will return in Week 12, so stay tuned.
News: With Jonathan Stewart ruled out for Week 11 vs. Baltimore with a concussion, Mike Goodson will make his second start on Sunday.
Analysis: Goodson hit the century mark in his first career start in Week 10, rushing for 100 yards on 23 carries. He accomplished the feat against Tampa Bay, which possesses the league's second-worst rushing defense. In Week 11, the Panthers host the Ravens, who have the eighth-best rushing defense, holding opposing teams to just under 100 rushing yards per game. Don't count on Goodson unless you have to.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson hit the century mark in his first career start in Week 10, rushing for 100 yards on 23 carries. He accomplished the feat against Tampa Bay, which possesses the league's second-worst rushing defense. In Week 11, the Panthers host the Ravens, who have the eighth-best rushing defense, holding opposing teams to just under 100 rushing yards per game.
Analysis: With DeAngelo Williams (foot) out for the year, and Jonathan Stewart (concussion) questionable for Week 11, Goodson could start again. However, given the much tougher matchup, Fantasy owners can't bank on a repeat performance. Consider Goodson to be no more than a No. 3 Fantasy RB this week.
News: DeAngelo Williams' season high in rushing yards is 86. Jonathan Stewart's season high is 43. Mike Goodson topped both in his first career start for the Panthers at Tampa Bay in Week 10, rushing for 100 yards on 23 carries. He also caught three passes for 13 yards, but he did lose a fumble in the first half.
Analysis: Goodson was quick and elusive, taking advantage of a Buccaneers run defense that entered the game ranked 30th in the NFL. He did slow down in the second half, rushing for only 24 yards on six carries, but the Panthers were trailing then and had no choice but to throw the ball. Either Williams (foot) or Stewart (concussion) could return in Week 11, but Goodson showed he's a serviceable replacement if they remain out. Of course, with a tough matchup against the Ravens, you wouldn't want to use him as more than a No. 3 Fantasy RB.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson, who was told he'll start Week 10 at Tampa Bay with DeAngelo Williams (foot) and Jonathan Stewart (concussion) sidelined by injuries, couldn't ask for a better matchup in his first start. The Buccaneers rank 30th in run defense, allowing 147.0 yards per game, and have given up 21.8 Fantasy points per game to running backs, tied for fourth in the NFL. Of course, Goodson has 99 career rushing yards over two seasons and is playing for the league's lowest-ranked offense, which could only get worse with rookie QB Jimmy Clausen under center.
Analysis: Goodson may be Carolinas fastest back and hopes to bring some big plays to the equation. Thats what I cant wait to show. Those big plays, they change games, he said. Still, he doesn't have near the pedigree of Williams or Stewart, who haven't been able to accomplish much without help from the passing game. Goodson may have a favorable matchup, but it doesn't change his supporting cast. You may be able to get by with him as a No. 3 Fantasy RB, but keep your expectations in check.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson told the Gaston Gazette that he's been told he will start Sunday at the Buccaneers. With DeAngelo Williams (foot), Jonathan Stewart (head) and backup Tyrell Sutton (ankle) all not at practice Wednesday, Goodson is a logical starter for Carolina. No word has been given to the injured backs' statuses for Week 10, but with the team signing rushers Andre Brown and Josh Vaughan earlier this week, there's a real shot that all of the banged-up running backs will miss the game.
Analysis: Goodson has excellent speed but his size is an issue. We happen to like Goodson as a low-end No. 3 Fantasy RB in PPR formats, and we suspect that he'll touch the ball a decent amount for Carolina against a less-than-spectacular Tampa Bay run defense. Still, he's not worth rushing to get off waivers other than as a potential replacement for Williams and/or Stewart or as a desperation pickup in standard formats. We'll keep you posted on the Panthers' rushers all week.
News: Panthers RB Tyrell Sutton has a sprained ankle, coach John Fox said Monday, and he might be out for Week 10 against Tampa Bay. The Panthers may have to turn to Mike Goodson for a majority of the carries. RB DeAngelo Williams (sprained foot) has missed the last two games and Jonathan Stewart could be out with a concussion. Goodson ended up with a team-high nine carries in Week 9 against the Saints after Stewart and Sutton left with injuries. Goodson rushed for 29 yards, with his longest carry going 11 yards. He also had three catches for 18 yards, but he did not score.
Analysis: Goodson is worth adding in the majority of leagues in case Williams and Stewart are out. Tampa Bay is weak in run defense, and Goodson could be considered a sleeper in deeper leagues. He's only owned in 1 percent of leagues on CBSSports.com, so pick him up off the waiver wire where needed and keep an eye on the status of Williams and Stewart.

Analysis: Goodson is usually used on passing downs for the Panthers when DeAngelo Williams, who was also out Week 9, and Stewart are healthy. But if the Panthers are down Williams, Stewart and Sutton in Week 10 against the Bucs, then Goodson becomes a potential sleeper start in Fantasy since he will see the majority of carries. Stay tuned.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson didn't do much as Jonathan Stewart's backup in Week 8 as Carolina lost at St. Louis. Goodson ran once for a yard and caught four passes for 16 yards.
Analysis: It doesn't matter who gets the ball, the Panthers just can't run against anyone at the moment, and so Goodson will remain pretty much a non-factor in Fantasy play heading into Week 9 vs. New Orleans as long as Jonathan Stewart is healthy.
News: Carolina RB Mike Goodson has not seen a ton of action on the offensive side of the ball. He has just six carries for 20 yards on the season. In Week 7, the Panthers host the 49ers, who have shown a bit of weakness against elusive backs like Goodson. Backs with the shifty skill set have frustrated the Niners. Jamaal Charles and LeSean McCoy both racked up more than 90 yards against them on less than 19 carries. Larger, power-backs like Michael Turner and Michael Bush, both managed no more than 50 yards against San Francisco. Still, Goodson is 3rd on the Panthers' pecking order.
Analysis: We are not saying Goodson will flirt with 100 yards rushing in Week 7 like Charles and McCoy, but the blueprint for the possibility has been set. DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stweart are power backs and Goodson is strictly an elusive one. Still, Goodson is a high-risk in Week 7 just because of the depth chart. Consider him a very low-end Fantasy option.
News: Carolina RB/KR Mike Goodson injured his neck late in Sunday's loss to New Orleans, but he should be fine for this week, coach John Fox said.
Analysis: Goodson has really only recorded decent statistics in one game this season. As long as Carolina is playing well and is healthy, he's not going to factor in much. Goodson has no Fantasy value heading into Week 5 against the Bears.
News: Carolina RB Mike Goodson managed just one carry for zero yards Week 4 in a loss at New Orleans. Goodson, who actually led the Panthers in receiving yards and targets in the Week 3 game, was not even targeted Week 4 by quarterback Jimmy Clausen.
Analysis: Goodson has really only recorded decent statistics in one game this season. As long as Carolina is playing well and is healthy, he's not going to factor in much. Goodson has no Fantasy value heading into Week 5 against the Bears.
News: The Panthers had an unusual candidate lead them in receiving yards and targets in Week 3 against the Bengals. RB Mike Goodson, who is third on the depth chart behind RBs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, managed a team-high four catches for 47 yards, with his longest gainer a 20-yarder. Goodson also had a team-high eight targets. He did not have any carries, however.
Analysis: Goodson got most of his touches in mop-up duty late in the game after Carolina put Williams and Stewart on the bench. He proved to be a nice checkdown option for QB Jimmy Clausen, who was making his first career start. Goodson is a good pass-catching option out of the backfield, but he won't be an integral part of the offense until an injury befalls a starter. Keep him off Fantasy rosters heading into Week 4. The Panthers play the Saints.
News: Carolina RB Mike Goodson got his first carry of the season in the Week 2 loss to Tampa Bay. Goodson rushed five times for 20 yards in the game as he ran behind DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. Goodson also caught two passes for 33 yards.
Analysis: Goodson looks like he's going to be involved in the passing game more often than he runs with the football this season. He will be good for a few catches and touches per week but is not a recommended Fantasy play for Week 3 against the Bengals.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson did not get a single carry in Week 1 at the N.Y. Giants. He did, however, catch three passes for 31 yards. He was thrown to five times in the game.
Analysis: Goodson is not expected to be a featured back anytime soon, especially while DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart are both healthy. As long as that is the case, he is not worth owning in Fantasy.
News: The Charlotte Observer reports that Panthers RB Mike Goodson has impressed this preseason as the third running back in Carolina. He worked very hard this offseason, coach John Fox said. Typically a second-year player does make a pretty good jump. He put a lot of time, both in the weight room and conditioning and his playbook. So I think hes just playing faster. He always had good natural speed, but now hes playing faster and I think you were able to see that the other night.
Analysis: Goodson scored on a kickoff return over the weekend against Tennessee, but the sophomore is currently stuck behind DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart on the depth chart, and still has Tyrell Sutton to deal with as well for touches. Continue to only worry about Sutton in deeper dynasty Fantasy leagues.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson shook off an ankle injury to run six times for 33 yards and catch three passes for 18 yards in Saturday's preseason loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Goodson is getting reps as the No. 2 running back in Carolina while Jonathan Stewart deals with an Achilles' injury, and did pretty well on Saturday night against a stout Jets defense. Goodson will get the odd carry here and there for the Panthers this season if things play out as they should, and he remains nothing more than a low-end Fantasy flier in deeper long-term Fantasy keeper leagues.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson has a soft cast on his left foot, keeping him out of the team's practices. The injury is not considered serious, and he should be back before the end of camp. The team is calling it a sprained ankle.
Analysis: Goodson has some speed but is buried on the Panthers' depth chart behind DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. We like Goodson as a late-round flier for keeper leagues for 2011 and beyond, but that's about it.
News: The Charlotte Observer reports Panthers RB Mike Goodson is hoping to be a bigger factor in Carolina this season. He is currently third on the depth chart behind DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, but Goodson would like to still get a share of the touches. "Just for me going into my second year, there's a new confidence level," Goodson said. "Just have a year under your belt, knowing your stuff, and just coming in with that confidence. When you come in as a rookie, it's hard. Once you get into the regular season and you see how to be a professional ... it's kind of overwhelming for a young guy. But once you get into that second year, after working with these guys it's a lot easier."
Analysis: Goodson could be used on passing-down situations for the Panthers since Stewart and Williams will dominate the carries on rushing downs. He also will see time on kickoff returns. Keep an eye on Goodson in deep leagues, especially keeper formats, since Williams could be gone from Carolina after this year. But Goodson is not worth drafting in the majority of seasonal leagues this season.
News: With RB Jonathan Stewart still nursing a Achilles' injury Wednesday, second-year RB Mike Goodson is getting his fair share of reps in practice. He's looking really good. Goodson, a third-round pick in 2009, played well at the end of last season after DeAngelo Williams (ankle) went down.
Analysis: Stewart is still watching practice after Achilles surgery, and seeing him practice in the offseason would be considered news. We hope Stewart will be ready for the start of training camp, and he should be able to build off last season's success. Williams' return from ankle surgery means Stewart has lower Fantasy value, but he's still worth drafting as a No. 2 option as early as Round 4 or 5 in all leagues. The key for Stewart is staying healthy, and hopefully he won't suffer a setback with his Achilles'/foot problems once the season starts. As for Goodson, he's not worth drafting in the majority of leagues as long as Williams and Stewart are healthy.
News: Carolina RB Mike Goodson was the healthiest running back for the Panthers by the end of the season-finale win over the Saints in the Week 17 game. Goodson finished the game with 13 carries for 44 yards after Jonathan Stewart injured himself in the game.
Analysis: Goodson is a good blocker for the Panthers but doesnt see any Fantasy value behind DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. Goodson can be left on waivers in all leagues and doesnt need to be drafted heading into next season.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson had five carries for 2 yards in Week 16 against the Giants. He also caught a pass for a 1-yard gain.
Analysis: Goodson saw added playing time with DeAngelo Williams out with an injury, but even Brad Hoover had more carries. Fantasy owners should not activate him in any league for the final scoring period of the season.
News: Panthers reserve running back Tyrell Sutton is doubtful after sitting out Friday with a calf injury. He's not expected to see playing time at the Giants in Week 16. Instead, rookie Mike Goodson, who took all the first-team reps on Wednesday, is expected to help Jonathan Stewart with the rushing workload in the game.
Analysis: Only if you're desperate should you consider Goodson as a Fantasy option in Week 16. Neither he nor Sutton are expected to do much for Fantasy owners.
News: The Panthers inactives for Sunday's game against Minnesota include WR Dwayne Jarrett, CB C.J. Wilson, RB Mike Goodson, FB Tony Fiammetta, DT Derek Landri and DE Hilee Taylor.
Analysis: None of these players should be used in any Fantasy leagues against the Vikings. When active they have minimal Fantasy value.
News: The Panthers have listed the following players as inactive for Week 14 at New England: QB Jake Delhomme, DB C.J. Wilson, DE Tyler Brayton, RB Mike Goodson, RB Tony Fiammetta, DT Derek Landri and WR Kenneth Moore.
Analysis: Apart from Delhomme, who was already declared out earlier this week, none of these guys have any Fantasy value. Delhomme remains worth stashing in only deeper formats.
News: Carolina had several players active for the Week 13 win over Tampa Bay but fail to stat. They are as follows: FB Brad Hoover, WR Kenny Moore, TE Gary Barnidge, backup QB A.J. Feeley and RB Mike Goodson.
Analysis: None of these players contribute enough statistically to matter in Fantasy even when healthy. Leave them all on waivers for Week 14 at New England.
News: The Panthers have listed the following players as inactive for Week 12 at the N.Y. Jets: DE Charles Johnson, DE Hilee Taylor, DT Nick Hayden, CB C.J. Wilson, RB Mike Goodson, WR Kenneth Moore and QB A.J. Feeley.
Analysis: None of these players contribute enough statistically to matter in Fantasy even when healthy. Leave them all on waivers.
News: Panthers DB Charles Godfrey, RB Brad Hoover, DL Charles Johnson, RB Mike Goodson, WR Kenny Moore, LB Hilee Taylor and QB A.J. Feeley have all been listed as inactive for the team's Week 11 game against Miami on Thursday.
Analysis: None of these players contribute enough statistically to matter in Fantasy even when healthy. Leave them all on waivers.
News: Carolina has listed the following players as inactive for Week 10 against the Falcons: DB Charles Godfrey, 3rd QB A.J. Feeley, RB Mike Goodson, RB Brad Hoover, LB Hilee Taylor and DL Nick Hayden.
Analysis: None of these players contributes enough statistically to matter in Fantasy even when healthy. Leave them all on waivers.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson caught one pass for 2 yards Week 9 at New Orleans. The reception was his first of the year. He has five total touches.
Analysis: Goodson is too low on the depth chart to make a significant contribution in Fantasy. Leave him on waivers for Week 10 against the Falcons.
News: Panthers K Rhys Lloyd, RB Mike Goodson, RB Tony Fiammetta and WR Kenny Moore didn't record offensive statistics Week 8 at Arizona.
Analysis: None of these players ever does enough statistically to matter in Fantasy. Leave them all on waivers.
News: Panthers rookie RB Mike Goodson had two carries for 2 yards against the Bills in Week 7. He hadn't gotten a single carry since Week 1.
Analysis: The Panthers are already overloaded at running back with DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, so you can't expect Goodson to make much of a contribution in Fantasy. Leave him on waivers for Week 8 at Arizona.
News: Carolina listed the following players as inactive for Week 6 at Tampa Bay: 3rd QB A.J. Feeley, RB Tyrell Sutton, DB C.J. Wilson, RB Mike Goodson, LB Hilee Taylor and DL Nick Hayden.
Analysis: None of the players on this list are expected to have any Fantasy value any time soon. Leave them on waivers until further notice.
News: The following players are listed as inactive for the Panthers in their Week 5 game against Washington: QB A.J. Feeley, RB Mike Goodson, RB Tyrell Sutton, DL Antwon Burton, DL Hilee Taylor and DB C.J. Wilson.
Analysis: Goodson will often go without stats for the Panthers and is not a viable Fantasy option. None of the players on this list are expected to have any Fantasy appeal this season. Leave them on waivers until further notice.
News: Carolina RB Mike Goodson will not play in the team's Week 5 game against the Redskins due to a concussion.
Analysis: Goodson will often go without stats for the Panthers and is not a viable Fantasy option. He is pushed down the depth chart behind DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart and should not be on Fantasy rosters.
News: Carolina RB Mike Goodson is dealing with the after-effects of a concussion and could not practice on Wednesday in preparation for Week 5 against the Redskins. He is currently listed as questionable for the game.
Analysis: Goodson will often go without stats for the Panthers and is not a viable Fantasy option. He is pushed down the depth chart behind DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart and needs not to be on any Fantasy rosters at this time.
News: Carolina RB Mike Goodson was limited to returning kicks on Monday night against Dallas. Goodson did not factor into the offense.
Analysis: Goodson will often go without stats for the Panthers and is not a viable Fantasy option. The team has a bye Week 4 and plays Washington in Week 5.
News: QB Matt Moore, RB Mike Goodson, RB Tony Fiammetta and TE Gary Barnidge did not record an offensive statistic in Week 2 at Atlanta.
Analysis: None of the players on this list are expected to have any Fantasy appeal this season. Leave them on waivers until further notice.
News: Panthers RB Mike Goodson made his regular-season NFL debut during a Week 1 loss to the Eagles. Goodson mostly played on special teams, but carried the ball two times for one yard.
Analysis: If Goodson was drafted by a team in dire need of running backs, he might be a potential impact Fantasy rookie. However, he was drafted by the Panthers, and you know who they have running the ball -- DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. Until Goodson moves up the depth chart, he has minimal Fantasy appeal. The Panthers play the Falcons Week 2.
News: The Charlotte Observer reports Panthers RB Mike Goodson played well in Saturday's preseason game against Baltimore. Getting lots of playing time due to injuries to DeAngelo Williams (knee) and Jonathan Stewart (Achilles' tendon), Goodson ran for 52 yards on 11 carries. He also caught three passes for 26 yards. For good measure, he returned four kickoffs for 77 yards, including one that went for 27 yards. "I had a lot of holes to run through," said Goodson of his work at running back. "It was a great experience going out there with the (first team)." Said Panthers coach John Fox: "I think Mike Goodson has had a good (training camp) and has had good showing in all our (exhibitions). He has stood out."
Analysis: Goodson won't get many carries as long as Williams and Stewart are healthy in the regular season, but it is a good sign that he can play well if those guys get hurt. Ignore Goodson in all seasonal leagues, but keep an eye on what happens with Williams and Stewart to see if he's worth adding off the waiver wire during the year.
News: Panthers rookie RB Mike Goodson was the No. 2 option for Carolina in Saturday's preseason game at Miami with Jonathan Stewart (Achilles' tendon) not playing. Goodson responded with eight carries for 23 yards and one catch for minus-4 yards.
Analysis: Goodson is a rookie the Panthers like a lot, but he won't see the field much this year with DeAngelo Williams and Stewart getting the majority of carries. However, if either RB gets hurt, Goodson could play a big role, so keep an eye on him for the waiver wire. He's not worth drafting in seasonal leagues and is worth a late-round pick in rookie-only drafts.
News: Panthers rookie RB Mike Goodson was back at practice Friday. He has been recovering from a leg bruise earlier in the week and is likely to play Saturday night.
Analysis: Goodson is the No. 3 RB for the Panthers behind DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. He has minimal Fantasy value in seasonal leagues but is worth a look in long-term keeper leagues as long as he's healthy.
News: Carolina RB Mike Goodson led the team in rushing in their first preseason game against the Giants on Monday night. Goodson rushed six times for 43 yards and scored a touchdown in the 3rd quarter on a 14-yard run. Goodson also caught two passes for 16 yards.
Analysis: The Panthers hope to use Goodson in a variety of ways this season as a backup to DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. The Panthers are high on Goodson's game-breaking potential as a situational running, receiver and possible kickoff returner. He is worth a look in long-term keeper leagues but should not be drafted in seasonal formats.
News: The Charlotte Observer reports Panthers rookie RB Mike Goodson is getting a lot of repetitions early in training camp. The Panthers hope to use him in a variety of ways this season as a backup to DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart.
Analysis: The Panthers are high on Goodson's game-breaking potential as a situational running, receiver and possible kickoff returner. He is worth a look in long-term keeper leagues but should not be drafted in seasonal formats.
News: The Charlotte Observer reports Friday the Panthers announced the signing of fourth-round draft pick RB Mike Goodson from Texas A&M.
Analysis: The Panthers are high on Goodson's game-breaking potential as a situational running, receiver and possible kickoff returner. He is worth a look in long-term keeper leagues but should not be drafted in seasonal formats.
News: The Gaston Gazette Panthers rookie RB Mike Goodson is making an impression so far in minicamp. "Even without pads, it's impressive," FB Brad Hoover said. "Everything I heard coming in was how quick and fast he was, but you really don't know until you see him out there on the field. But he's got some burst. He's definitely got some giddy-up."
Analysis: Where exactly Goodson fits with the Panthers remains to be seen. With Nick Goings gone, Goodson is the No. 3 tailback on the depth chart behind DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, but the team is using him quite a bit as a slot receiver. They also have him returning kickoffs. Goodson should only be taken with a late-round pick in the deepest of seasonal leagues, but is a worthwhile late-round pick in dynasty/keeper formats and a mid-round pick in rookie-only drafts this summer.
News: Panthers QB Jake Delhomme told the Gaston Gazette that he's blown away from what he's seen from rookie RB Mike Goodson so far this spring. Goodson has been working out as a rusher and a receiver, lining up in the slot. "He's got some jets, I know that," Delhomme said. "Don't get me wrong, we're still in skirts right now. You always have those guys who look good in shorts. But this guy, he's got some explosiveness. In the little bit of time hes been out here you can tell he's explosive."
Analysis: The Panthers seem like they'll give him a chance to earn some playing time this year. The Panthers surprised some by taking a running back in the draft, but Goodson has good quickness and speed. He's got one big problem: He's buried behind DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart on the depth chart. Even with this news, the reality is that Goodson should only be taken with a late-round pick in the deepest of seasonal leagues, but is a worthwhile late-round pick in dynasty/keeper formats and a mid-round pick in rookie-only drafts this summer.
News: From The Sports Xchange: Running back Mike Goodson, the Panthers' third-round draft pick out of Texas A&M, has been told by the team he will see some action at wide receiver, possibly in the slot. "I plan on being in the backfield, but anywhere they put me I'm just ready to play," Goodson said. "I bring a pretty good slot receiver, also, so wherever they throw me I'm ready to play."

News: The Panthers surprised some by taking a running back in the draft, Texas A&M RB Mike Goodson in Round 4 to be exact. Goodson has good quickness and speed, but he's got one big problem: He's buried behind DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart on the depth chart. He might help out on special teams and could otherwise be third on the depth chart behind the big two. He could even be an insurance policy for Williams in the Panthers' offense since the two have similar styles and strengths.
