News: Jacksonville activated linebacker Daryl Smith off injured reserve on Saturday, reports the Florida Times-Union. To make room for Smith, who was out with a groin injury, the Jaguars placed safety Dwight Lowery on injured reserve, ending his season with a foot injury sustained at Miami last week.
Analysis: Lowery made 53 tackles over nine games this season for Jacksonville. He missed five games during the middle of the season due to an ankle injury and intercepted a pass upon returning to action. Still, he was unable to remain healthy and his season is over now. He has no Fantasy value remaining in IDP formats.
News: Jacksonville defensive back Dwight Lowery, back on the field after an ankle injury that cost him five weeks of action, recorded an interception on Sunday in the Week 12 win over Tennessee. Lowery finished with four tackles in the game. The INT was his first of the year.
Analysis: Lowery has 22 tackles this season over six games for the Jaguars and just picked up his first interception. He doesn't record enough stops consistently to really be considered a viable Fantasy option in IDP formats.
News: Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey told reporters Wednesday starting free safety Dwight Lowery will be out a couple of weeks with an ankle injury.
Analysis: Lowery isn't a big stat hound, so he is more important to the Jaguars' cause than Fantasy owners. He has marginal Fantasy appeal in IDP formats when healthy.
News: The Jaguars and safety Dwight Lowery agreed to a four-year contract Tuesday night after his agent talked to several teams during the first few hours of free agency. The Jaguars also signed versatile backup linebacker Russell Allen to a three-year contract. Allen was a restricted free agent.
Analysis: Neither of these guys are expected to be productive for Fantasy purposes in 2012. Leave both off of rosters.
News: Jaguars DB Dwight Lowery left with a shoulder injury from Thursday's contest with the Falcons.
Analysis: Lowery hurt his shoulder a few weeks ago against the Chargers too, so this could be a big blow to an already beat up secondary unit. In terms of Fantasy value, Lowery does not have much. Continue to ignore him in IDP formats.
News: Jaguars DB Dwight Lowery sustained a shoulder injury in the second quarter of Week 13 against the Chargers. He finished with three tackles before being forced from the game.
Analysis: Lowery has been one of the few bright spots on Jacksonville so far this season but does not pose a ton of Fantasy value going forward. Continue to ignore him in IDP formats, healthy or not.
News: Jaguars DB Dwight Lowery got his second interception of the season, picking off Bengals QB Andy Dalton in the second quarter of a Week 5 loss. Lowery returned the interception 29 yards to the Bengals' two-yard line, but the Jags couldn't get in the end zone, settling for a 19-yard Josh Scobee field goal. Lowery also made three tackles in the game.
Analysis: Lowery is worth considering as a low-end DB option in IDP leagues. He isn't contributing much outside of his two interceptions, though, so he isn't worth starting in many leagues.
News: The move of Dwight Lowery to starting free safety for the Jaguars is the latest in an oft-changing situation in the defensive backfield. The Jaguars have started 10 combinations in the secondary in the last 20 games.
Analysis: Lowery has mostly been a reserve defensive back in his career, but now he gets the chance to contribute on a regular basis, like he did as a rookie in 2008 with the Jets. Lowery remains a low-end Fantasy option until we see what kind of numbers he produces.
News: The Jets traded safety Dwight Lowery to the Jaguars for a draft pick.
Analysis: Lowery should get a shot to start right away in Jacksonville. He's worth a late-round pick in deeper IDP leagues.
News: Jets DB Dwight Lowery has settled into a rhythm at his new position of safety after playing mostly corner and nickel his entire NFL career. "I'm definitely in a groove," Lowery said following the Week 17 win over the Bills. "This is the first time I've played one position week in and week out." Lowery finished the final regular-season game with two tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery.
Analysis: Lowery picked up interceptions in his last two regular-season games as the Jets enter the playoffs. He came up big in Week 17 with the team missing Antonio Cromartie and Darrelle Revis. Still, we doubt he goes into next season with much Fantasy value.
News: Jets DB Dwight Lowery picked off Jay Cutler in Week 16 and returned the interception for a touchdown. He also had two solo tackles.
Analysis: Lowery doesn't produce enough stats to warrant Fantasy use normally. Leave him off rosters.
News: Jets coach Rex Ryan announced he will start cornerback Dwight Lowery at safety in Week 15 against the Steelers since the Jets are thin at the position with Eric Smith sitting this week with a concussion and Jim Leonhard out for the year with a broken shin. James Ihedigbo did not practice while he recovers from a high ankle sprain and knee injury, but Ryan is hopeful he'll play. "I think we'll start Dwight and see about Dig's availability," Ryan said. "I feel pretty good about starting Dwight. He's a smart kid."
Analysis: Lowery has just 12 tackles in 11 games, but he does have two sacks and one interception. He is skilled enough to play both safety and corner. We anticipate the Steelers testing Lowery in Week 15, so he might be a potential sleeper start in deeper Fantasy IDP formats.
News: Coach Rex Ryan said on Monday that DB Dwight Lowery (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 12 against the Bengals. Lowery suffered a concussion in Week 10 against the Browns and did not play last Sunday against the Texans.
Analysis: Lowery will get the occasional sack and interception, but usually only plays in dime and nickel packages. He doesn't stat consistently enough to be used in the majority of IDP leagues, even when healthy.
News: Jets DB Dwight Lowery is on the inactives list for Week 11 vs. Houston with a concussion. He had been ruled out on Thursday.
Analysis: Lowery has minimal Fantasy value when healthy. Ignore him in all leagues even when he's able to play.
News: Jets backup DB Dwight Lowery has been ruled out for New York's game against Houston on Sunday with a concussion. Lowery was injured in the Jets' 26-20 overtime win Sunday at Cleveland, and coach Rex Ryan says Thursday that he has "a little ways to go there."
Analysis: Lowery has minimal Fantasy value when healthy. Ignore him in all leagues even when he's able to play.
News: Jets DB Dwight Lowery left Week 10's game at Cleveland with a head injury, and he did not return.
Analysis: Lowery doesn't stat much, so even if he is ready to return for Week 11 against Houston, he can be ignored in IDP formats.
News: Jets DB Dwight Lowery recorded his second sack of the season Week 8 against the Packers. He also had two solo tackles.
Analysis: Lowery will get the occasional sack and interception, but because he only plays on passing downs, he isn't consistent enough for Fantasy use. Leave him on waivers in IDP leagues.
News: Jets DB Dwight Lowery was the hero of the Monday night victory over the Vikings in Week 5. With Brett Favre and Minnesota attempting a furious comeback, Lowery stepped in front of a Favre pass and returned it 26 yards for a defensive touchdown with 1:30 remaining in th fourth quarter to ice a Jets victory. The interception was Lowery's first this season. He finished with one tackle.
Analysis: Lowery has exactly six tackles on the season after five games and the interception was actually his first since Week 17 of last season. He's not a recommended Fantasy IDP player because of his lack of tackles. Ignore him, despite his defensive touchdown, for Week 6 at Denver.
News: Jets DB Dwight Lowery, who came into the Week 4 game in Buffalo with just two tackles on the season, finished with three stops against the Bills. He also picked up his first sack of the season as he took down Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Analysis: Lowery had a decent game Week 4 but he's not owned in any Fantasy leagues. That makes sense since he's not a starter and he had just two tackles entering the Week 4 game. Keep him on waivers for Week 5 against Minnesota.
News: Jets DB Dwight Lowery had one assisted tackle and one interception during a Week 16 win against the Colts. It was his second interception of the season and first since Week 6.
Analysis: The second-year cornerback has taken a step back in 2009 after a solid rookie campaign. He does have a career-high two interceptions, but all his other numbers are way down across the board. Lowery is not a recommended Fantasy DB.
News: Jets DB Dwight Lowery, LB Kenwin Cummings, QB Eric Ainge, DL Ropati Pitoitua and DL Marques Murrell are all inactive for Week 14 at Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Lowery is not a relevant option in Fantasy play and can be ignored in all formats, as can the rest of the players listed above.
News: Jets DB Dwight Lowery (ankle) has been ruled out of the team's Week 14 game at Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Lowery is not a relevant option in Fantasy play and can be ignored in all formats.
News: Jets DBs Dwight Lowery and Donald Strickland have been ruled out of the team's Week 13 game against the Bills.
Analysis: Neither of these players are relevant in IDP formats and should continue to be ignored.
News: The Jets have listed the following players as inactive for Week 12 vs. Carolina: QB Kevin O'Connell, CB Dwight Lowery, CB Donald Strickland, LB Ryan Fowler, LB Kenwin Cummings and QB Erik Ainge.
Analysis: Most of these players are reserves or contribute on special teams for the Jets. They have little to no Fantasy value when active.
News: Jets cornerbacks Dwight Lowery and Donald Strickland will not play against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday because of injuries. Lowery has a high ankle sprain, suffered last Sunday in the loss at New England. He will likely be replaced in the starting lineup by Lito Sheppard. Justin Miller, inactive the last two games, will also likely take over on kickoff returns. Strickland, a key backup, suffered a concussion against the Patriots when he was hit hard by tackle Mark LeVoir on a block.
Analysis: None of these players are expected to produce enough stats to warrant Fantasy use. Keep them off of rosters for now.
News: Jets cornerbacks Lito Sheppard and Donald Strickland are out for the team's game against Tennessee. Neither Sheppard (right quadriceps) nor Strickland (right ankle) practiced this week. Sheppard will be replaced in the starting lineup by Dwight Lowery, who struggled last season as a rookie. He broke up Tom Brady's final pass Sunday to Joey Galloway to seal New York's 16-9 win over New England. Drew Coleman will likely step in for Strickland in nickel packages.
Analysis: None of these guys should be used in IDP play this week, and this doesn't knock down the value of the Jets DST that much, either. The unit is too talented and too aggressive to be considered suspect. Use them as a No. 1 option against the Titans in Week 3.
News: Jets DB Dwight Lowery totaled 10 tackles in Week 8's win over the Chiefs. Lowery now has 39 tackles on the year.
Analysis: Lowery is currently starting at corner for the Jets. Lowery remains less than a viable Fantasy DB in IDP leagues as the Jets are in Buffalo in Week 9.
News: Jets DB Dwight Lowery had a team-high nine solo tackles and one forced fumble during a Week 4 win against the Cardinals. He now has 19 tackles in four games.
Analysis: Lowery is currently starting at corner for the Jets with Justin Miller out with injury. As soon as Miller is healthty, it could be back to the bench for Lowery, who remains nothing more than a stopgap Fantasy option.
News: Jets rookie DB Dwight Lowery has vaulted into the starting lineup at right cornerback ahead of veterans suchs as David Barrett, Justin Miller and Ahmad Carroll. "Growing up and looking at great players play, not just in football but seeing great sports athletes, they are different people on the field," Lowery said. "They have different personalities on the field in whatever event they're in. I think you have to have that approach because it's not just playing football or sports with high intensity. Everything that goes into what we do, you have to be a different person when you play."
Analysis: Lowery had four tackles and three passes defensed, including two in a row during a goal-line stand in the fourth quarter, in New York's season-opening victory at Miami last Sunday. He doesn't figure to improve on those numbers greatly from week to week. He should not be a viable option in IDP leagues in Week 2.
News: The Newark Star-Ledger reports Jets starting right CB Justin Miller suffered a dislocated toe on his left foot and is expected to be sidelined one to three weeks, meaning he could miss the opener at Miami on Sept. 7. Miller, who missed most of last season with a knee injury and was having a solid camp, was hurt in the second quarter of the third preseason game against the Giants while making a tackle on Giants RB Brandon Jacobs. He limped off the field and was carted into the locker room. He didn't return. The injury may pave the way for rookie Dwight Lowery, a fourth-round pick, to crack the starting lineup. David Barrett, who has been working at safety for the past two weeks and played there an extended amount of time against the Giants, is also a possibility, as is versatile veteran Hank Poteat, who started nine games last season. Darrelle Revis is the starter at left cornerback.
Analysis: Miller has minimal Fantasy value in IDP leagues even when healthy. Keep an eye on his replacement, but the Jets DST is a low-end Fantasy option at this time.
News: The Jets signed CB Dwight Lowery, the team's fourth-round pick, on Wednesday. Lowery started all 25 games at cornerback in two seasons at San Jose State, with 13 interceptions, including a school-record nine in 2006.
Analysis: Lowery has minimal Fantasy value as a rookie this year. Don't plan on drafting him in seasonal leagues, but in rookie-only drafts that use defensive players, consider Lowery a low-end Fantasy option.
