Neal cut by Raiders
|
Updated 8/20/2009 |
| Lorenzo Neal, RB OAK | |
| News: The Oakland Raiders have signed safety Rashad Baker and waived fullback Lorenzo Neal. Coach Tom Cable says the move Wednesday to cut ties with Neal was made because of the progress Oren O'Neal has made in his rehab from season-ending knee surgery a year ago. Cable says O'Neal will likely be the starter and there was no place for Neal on the roster. | Analysis: Neal may catch on elsewhere but has little to no Fantasy value as his value lies in his ability to block. |

| Lorenzo Neal, RB BAL | |
| News: The Oakland Raiders have bolstered their backfield by signing FB Lorenzo Neal and RB Gary Russell. The Raiders weren't able to find a fullback in the draft, so they signed Neal, who is considered to be one of the best blocking backs in the NFL. The 16-year veteran spent last season with the Baltimore Ravens. Russell spent two seasons in Pittsburgh, rushing for 98 yards and three touchdowns. He also scored the Steelers' first touchdown in their Super Bowl XLIII victory over the Arizona Cardinals. | Analysis: Neal and Russell have minimal Fantasy value, but adding Neal will definitely help the Raiders ground attack and be a boost for Darren McFadden, Justin Fargas and Michael Bush. Still, ignore Neal and Russell in all leagues. |

| News: The Ravens signed free-agent fullback Lorenzo Neal, who was released by the San Diego Chargers in February. The 37-year-old Neal is a four-time Pro Bowler and a 15-year veteran. "He's more than a lead blocker. He can catch the ball," Harbaugh said. "He's the kind of guy we want on our football team." | Analysis: Neal is a blocker first and a rusher/receiver second, so don't add him to any Fantasy rosters this summer. |
Chargers cut three
|
Updated 2/28/2008 |
| Lorenzo Neal, RB SD | |
| News: All-Pro fullback Lorenzo Neal was released Thursday by the San Diego Chargers, who also parted with safety Marlon McCree and right tackle Shane Olivea in the hours before free agency opened. General manager A.J. Smith said all three requested their release so they can quickly jump into free agency. McCree was released in part to allow safety Eric Weddle to move into the starting lineup. Neal's role was expected to decrease in 2008. Neal also was a Pro Bowler. McCree is probably best remembered for fumbling a fourth-down interception in the fourth quarter that gave the New England Patriots new life in a playoff win over the top-seeded Chargers after the 2006 season. | Analysis: Neal and McCree have minimal Fantasy value at this time. Keep an eye on where they end up but don't plan on using them in 2008. |
Neal hits open market
|
Updated 2/15/2008 |
| Lorenzo Neal, RB SD | |
| News: Chargers RB Lorenzo Neal could be playing elsewhere in 2008. Neal is a free agent and might draw interest on the open market since he's a valuable blocking fullback. He wants to be a part of the offense in San Diego. "I'm a starter," he said in the San Diego Union-Tribune. "I understand they've got plays and maybe I can't be out there all the time. But I want to be a starter in this league. I am a starter if not (in San Diego), then somewhere. "I'm going to talk to Norv. Whatever direction they want to go, I wish him well. He's a great coach. He's shown he can win. He knows I want to play." | Analysis: Neal has plenty of value to the Chargers but not to Fantasy owners. He doesn't touch to ball enough to be considered a good Fantasy option. No matter where he ends up in 2008 don't plan on drafting him in any leagues. |
