News: Former Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad will retire Thursday after catching 860 career passes for 11,438 yards and 62 touchdowns. Muhammad, 37, played 10 of his 13 seasons with the Panthers. He was an unrestricted free agent.
Analysis: Muhammad was a solid Fantasy option for many years, and owners should remember him fondly. But now that he's retired he should not be drafted in any leagues. He could still change his mind and decide against retirement if a team shows interest in signing him, but even so his Fantasy value would be limited.
News: Carolina coach John Fox said in an interview with CBSSports.com at the NFL owner's meeting in Orlando, Fla., that the Panthers will continue to search for a WR to play opposite Steve Smith. Muhsin Muhammad is a free agent and is not expected to return, and Fox said the candidates to replace him are Dwayne Jarrett, Kenny Moore, Charly Martin and Wallace Wright. Moore and Martin signed their one-year tender offers as restricted free agents. "We've been in somewhat of a search for about eight years for that spot," Fox said. "It's all hands on deck. We've got some young guys there. Those players will answer that when we start OTAs and mini-camps and practices."
Analysis: Although it's unlikely, Fox wouldn't rule out a return by Muhammad. "Moose has been great for this organization," he said. "I've always appreciated him as a player and as a guy in the locker room. It's hard to predict how that's going to turn out, but he's done a lot of good things for us." As for Jarrett, Moore, Martin and Wright, they have minimal Fantasy value even if one emerges during training camp. The starter would be worth a late-round pick in deep leagues.
News: The Rock Hill Herald reports the Panthers are not expected to bring back WR Muhsin Muhammad as a starter. There is a chance he could be back in a reduced role, however, but his playing time will be limited.
Analysis: Muhammad, who will be 37 in May, finished the season with 53 catches for 581 yards and one touchdown. He has minimal Fantasy value no matter what team he plays with in 2010, including the Panthers since his role would be limited.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad played well in what is likely his final game with the Panthers in the season-finale win over the Saints Week 17. Muhammad led the team with seven catches and with 85 yards as Steve Smith was injured. His long grab went for 24 yards and he did not score in the win.
Analysis: Muhammad looked good in what could be his final game with the Panthers. He turns 37 in May but doesnt plan on retiring just yet. Still, he was never a viable Fantasy option this season and doesnt figure to be one heading into 2010-11, regardless of where hes playing. Dont worry about taking him on Draft Day 2010.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad (ankle) is active for Week 17 against the Saints.
Analysis: Muhammad could be looking at more targets in Week 17 against New Orleans with Steve Smith breaking his forearm in the second half of Sunday's game. However, we don't recommend him as anything more than a flex option for the final scoring period of the regular season.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad returned to full practice Thursday and Friday as the team prepares for Week 17 against the Saints. An ankle injury kept him out of practice Wednesday. He has battled injuries much of the season but has managed to play each of the last seven games, going for 56 yards and his first touchdown last week. He has been listed as questionable for Sunday's game.
Analysis: Muhammad could be looking at more targets in Week 17 against New Orleans with Steve Smith breaking his forearm in the second half of Sunday's game. However, we don't recommend him as anything more than a flex option for the final scoring period of the regular season if he is healthy and active.
News:Muhsin Muhammad is 36, in the final year of his contract and is marking his first touchdown catch of the season with one game to go. Yet the Carolina Panthers' starting receiver vows that Sunday's season finale against New Orleans won't mark the end of his career. A two-time Pro Bowl selection and known as one of the NFL's top blocking receivers, Muhammad has just 46 catches for 496 yards this season. Lack of production by receivers other than Steve Smith has hampered the Panthers' offense for much of their disappointing season. Muhammad's 22-yard touchdown catch in Sunday's 41-9 win over the New York Giants on Sunday was the first score by a receiver other than Smith this season.
Analysis: Muhammad could be looking at more targets in Week 17 against New Orleans with Steve Smith breaking his forearm in the second half of Sunday's game. However, we don't recommend him as anything more than a flex option for the final scoring period of the regular season.
News: Panthers WR Mushin Muhammad caught three passes for 56 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown in Week 16 at the Giants. He was targeted four times in the game.
Analysis: Muhammad could be looking at more targets in Week 17 against New Orleans with Steve Smith breaking his forearm in the second half of Sunday's game. However, we don't recommend him as anything more than a flex option for the final scoring period of the regular season.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad had two catches for 29 yards Sunday against the Vikings.
Analysis: Muhammad is a low-end Fantasy WR and should not be used in Week 16 at the Giants.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad did not practice on Wednesday due to a knee injury and is questionable for Week 15 against the Vikings. This rest is normal for Muhammad, who is no stranger to the practice injury report.
Analysis: Muhammad has now gone four games without a 50-yard outing, and that makes him barely worth usable in Fantasy play heading into Week 15 vs. Minnesota, if healthy.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad was held to three catches for 29 yards in a Week 14 loss to New England.
Analysis: Muhammad has now gone four games without a 50-yard outing, and that makes him barely worth usable in Fantasy play heading into Week 15 vs. Indianapolis.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad (knee) has been listed as probable for the team's Week 14 game at New England. Muhammad was able to practice in full on both Thursday and Friday.
Analysis: Muhammad could have a big game every now and again but youll never know when it is coming. The Panthers play a top NFL pass defense at New England in Week 14 and we cant recommend Muhammads use in almost any Fantasy league although the knee issue should not keep him out.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad was able to return to a full practice on Thursday as the team prepares for its Week 14 game at New England. Muhammad is considered probable for the game.
Analysis: Muhammad could have a big game every now and again but youll never know when it is coming. The Panthers play a top NFL pass defense at New England in Week 14 and we cant recommend Muhammads use in almost any Fantasy league although the knee issue should not keep him out.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad did not practice on Wednesday due to a knee injury. He is considered questionable for Week 14 at New England.

News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad caught four passes to lead the team in receptions in the Week 13 win over Tampa Bay. Muhammad went for 43 yards and did not score in the game.
Analysis: The truth is that Muhammad could have a big game every now and again but youll never know when it is coming. The Panthers play a top NFL pass defense at New England in Week 14 and we cant recommend Muhammads use in almost any Fantasy league.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad (knee) is active for Week 13 vs. Tampa.
Analysis: Muhammad has yet to score a touchdown this season and has only twice topped 50 yards receiving, he's no more than a last resort in Fantasy heading into this decent matchup.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad (knee), who missed practice on Thursday, returned to the field on Friday as Carolina continued preparation for their Week 13 game vs. Tampa. He is listed as probable for the contest.
Analysis: Muhammad has yet to score a touchdown this season and has only twice topped 50 yards receiving, he's no more than a last resort in Fantasy heading into this decent matchup.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad, who took part in limited practice Wednesday, missed practice entirely Thursday as the team prepares for Week 13 against the Buccaneers. He missed two games with a knee injury earlier this season.
Analysis: Muhammad wasn't even on the injury report last week, so he either suffered a new knee injury or aggravated the old one. He's a question mark for this weekend, but considering he has yet to score a touchdown this season and has only twice topped 50 yards receiving, he's no more than a last resort in Fantasy.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad was limited in practice on Wednesday due to a knee injury as the team prepares for its Week 13 game against the Buccaneers. Muhammad had one catch for 2 yards Week 12 at the Jets.
Analysis: Muhammad is a low-end Fantasy WR in all leagues. Ignore him in Week 13 against Tampa Bay.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad had one catch for 2 yards Sunday at the Jets.
Analysis: Muhammad is a low-end Fantasy WR in all leagues. Ignore him in Week 13 against Tampa Bay.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad caught three balls on Thursday in a Week 11 loss to the Dolphins. His longest reception of the day went for 13 yards.
Analysis: Muhammad is getting up there in age and is no longer as effective on the field as he used to be. He had a big Week 10 performance with six grabs for 91 yards, but went back to his less than impressive ways Week 11. Think of Muhammad as just a low-end Fantasy option for Week 12 at the Jets.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad easily had the best game of his season on Sunday of Week 10 in a win over the Falcons. Muhammad led the Panthers with six catches for 91 yards in the game. He did not score.
Analysis: Muhammad hasn't produced much at all this season, which is why he's found the waiver wire in many leagues. He's not worth starting in Week 11 against Miami on Thursday despite this nice effort in Week 10.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad (knee) is active for Week 10 against the Falcons.
Analysis: Muhammad hasn't produced much at all this season, which is why he's found the waiver wire in many leagues. He's not worth starting in Week 10 against the Falcons.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad practiced in full all week after missing two games with a knee injury and is considered questionable for Week 10 against the Falcons. He also told the Charlotte Observer on Wednesday that he's stunned that the Panthers' receivers have one passing touchdown on the season. "It's just amazing. It's befuddling to me right now. I don't understand it," said Muhammad. "But, you know, every season is a different season and no two seasons are the same. If someone told me by the eighth game that we would have a combined one touchdown between all the receivers, I probably would have put my whole house on it."
Analysis: Muhammad hasn't produced much at all this season, which is why he's found the waiver wire in many leagues. He's not worth starting in Week 10 against the Falcons even though he is probably going to play.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad, who missed last week's game with a sprained knee, is inactive again Week 9 at New Orleans. He didn't practice all week because of the injury.
Analysis: Muhammad had a total of 10 catches for 80 yards over his last three games, so hopefully you wouldn't be starting him even if he was healthy. He might return Week 10 against the Falcons, but you should leave him on waivers regardless.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad, who missed Week 8 at Arizona, remained on the practice report in preparation for Week 9 at New Orleans. Muhammad continues to deal with a knee injury and was held out of practice all week. He is considered questionable for the game.
Analysis: Muhammad had a total of 10 catches for 80 yards over his last three games, so hopefully you wouldn't be starting him even if he was healthy. He can only be considered low-end Fantasy option and could certainly be held out again Week 9.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad, ruled out earlier in the week with a sprained knee, is inactive for Week 8 at Arizona. Dwayne Jarrett will start in his place.
Analysis: Muhammad had a total of 10 catches for 80 yards over his last three games, so hopefully you wouldn't be starting him even if he was healthy. Considering the struggles of QB Jake Delhomme, Jarrett doesn't figure to make an impact either. Muhammad might return Week 9 at New Orleans, but he should remain on waivers regardless.
News: The Panthers will be without starting receiver Muhsin Muhammad and free safety Charles Godfrey for Sunday's game at Arizona. Reserve tight end Dante Rosario was also ruled out Friday. Muhammad missed practice this week because of a sprained knee and will likely be replaced by Dwayne Jarrett. Rookie Sherrod Martin could start for Godfrey, who was wearing a cast and on crutches after injuring his right ankle in last Sunday's loss to Buffalo. Rosario has a knee injury.
Analysis: Muhammad has not been too productive with the Panthers this season, gaining 219 yards on 24 receptions and no touchdowns. He is not a recommended Fantasy option outside of deeper formats to begin with when healthy. Jarrett has just 26 yards on three receptions this season and should be considered just a low-end option for Week 8 even though he will be starting.
News: The Panthers' team site reports that Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad has a sprained knee and has been designated as "day-to-day" by coach John Fox. If Muhammad can't play in the team's Week 8 game at Arizona, Dwayne Jarrett would get the start."I just have to answer the call, and just go out there and not try to do anything more or less, just go out there, be me and catch the ball," said Jarrett. "That's all I have to do." Muhammad was again held out of practice on Thursday and is considered questionable for the Week 8 tilt.
Analysis: Muhammad has not been too productive with the Panthers this season, gaining 219 yards on 24 receptions and no touchdowns. He is not a recommended Fantasy option outside of deeper formats for Week 8 to begin with and the injury doesn't help his status. Jarrett has 26 yards on three receptions this season and would also be a low-end option if he does get the start Week 8.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad's receptions and yards declined for the third straight game Week 8 at Arizona. He finished with two catches for 14 yards and now has a total of 10 catches for 80 yards over his last three games.
Analysis: The Panthers' passing game has serious problems and could see a change at quarterback, which likely won't be enough to help Muhammad. No matter what happens, the Panthers will remain a run-first team with Steve Smith the go-to receiver. Muhammad is looking less and less like a viable Fantasy option. The Panthers visit the Cardinals in Week 8.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad led the Panthers in receiving during their Week 6 win at Tampa. Of course, that isn't saying much. Muhammad pulled down three catches for 27 yards as Jake Delhomme threw for just 65 on the game.
Analysis: Carolina's passing situation is dismal, despite the win. Muhammad is the team's second option behind Steve Smith but Delhomme has yet to throw a touchdown to any receiver other than a tight end this season. For that, we don't like Muhammad in Fantasy play Week 7 against Buffalo.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad caught five passes for 39 yards in a Week 5 win over Washington on Sunday. He went for a long reception of 15 yards.
Analysis: Muhammad has yet to catch more than six passes in a game or go for more than 51 yards. The Panthers offense has been terrible and since they will focus on the ground game against the Bucs in Tampa Bay in Week 6, we can't recommend using Muhammad in Fantasy play.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad led the Panthers with six receptions on Monday night against the Cowboys in a Week 3 loss. Muhammad went for 51 yards in the game and did not score.
Analysis: Muhammad now has 14 catches this season for 139 yards and has yet to find pay dirt. He might be the Panthers' No. 2 receiving option, but Muhammad has yet to do much and the Panthers' passing game has been dismal. You'll need him later on this season as a bye-week replacement but he doesn't have much more value than that. The Panthers head into their bye week in Week 4 and return to face the Redskins Week 5.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad (ankle) is active for Week 3 at Dallas on Monday night. He has eight catches for 88 yards through two games.
Analysis: Muhammad has a good matchup against the Cowboys, but he has minimal Fantasy value heading into Week 3. Keep him reserved for this week and hope he can start to play well going forward in case you need him during the bye weeks.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad was listed as probable on the injury report Saturday and is expected to play in Monday's game at Dallas. Muhammad has been dealing with an ankle injury. He has eight catches for 88 yards through two games.
Analysis: Muhammad has a good matchup against the Cowboys, but he has minimal Fantasy value heading into Week 3. Keep him reserved for this week and hope he can start to play well going forward in case you need him during the bye weeks.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad (ankle) practiced in full Thursday and Friday as the team prepares for Week 3 at Dallas. Muhammad left the game Week 2 against the Falcons for a brief period when he rolled his ankle, but was able to finish out the game. He caught four passes for 47 yards.
Analysis: Muhammad had eight catches for 88 yards through two games. The Panthers are working him into the game plan, but he just hasn't experienced great success. We consider Muhammad to be little more than an injury or bye week replacement option in deeper leagues. We don't recommend him as a starter for Week 3 at Dallas.
News: Panthers WR Mushin Muhammad caught four passes for 47 yards in Week 2 at Atlanta. He left the game briefly in the second quarter after having DeAngelo Williams roll up on his ankle as the wide receiver blocked down field, but he played in the second half.
Analysis: Muhammad finished second on the team in receiving in Week 2 behind Steve Smith. Expect this to be a blueprint of what to expect out of the Panthers pass offense this season and we consider Muhammad to be little more than an injury or bye week replacement option in deeper leagues. We don't recommend him as a starter for Week 3 at Dallas.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad is coming off a disappointing Week 1 against the Eagles. He was targeted 10 times in the game but caught just four of those passes for 41 yards. Muhammad and the Panthers play at Atlanta in Week 2 and the receiver had a solid season against them last year in two games. He caught 12 passes for 187 yards and had a touchdown in each game.
Analysis: Despite the solid history against the Falcons last season, the Carolina passing game is in shambles right now due to the struggling Jake Delhomme. We are having trouble recommending Steve Smith for Week 2 so you can go ahead and go in another direction with Muhammad.
News: WR Muhsin Muhammad was a popular target for the Panthers in Week 1 against the Eagles. Too bad he just couldn't parlay it into a monster game. Muhammad caught just four of the 10 passes thrown his way for 41 yards. His longest reception went 17 yards.
Analysis: The Panthers used three quarterbacks Week 1, but they all seemed to target the veteran Muhammad. That's good news for the aging receiver, but now he just has to make good on all of his chances. Muhammad is highly underrated as a No. 3 Fantasy WR. The Panthers play the Falcons in Week 2. Muhammad had 12 catches for 187 yards and two touchdowns in two games against the Falcons last season.
News: Mushin Muhammad and the Carolina Panthers will play a non-divisional opponent in Week 1 when they play host to the Eagles. The Eagles finished last season with the third-ranked pass defense in the NFL. They allowed just 182.1 yards per game.
Analysis: The Eagles know how to get after the quarterback and will put Jake Delhomme under a lot of pressure. We view Muhammad as a No. 4 Fantasy WR worth starting based upon matchups, but this is not a particularly attractive one. We recommend looking to other options where possible.
News: Carolina WR Mushin Muhammad was able to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Ravens and ended up leading the team in receiving yards. He made two catches in the game for a total of 51 yards, with a long of 38. He was considered questionable for the game with a groin injury.
Analysis: Muhammad was held out of the team's previous preseason game as a precaution and was not surprisingly able to play on Saturday. He is worth drafting as a No. 4 Fantasy WR even though Dwayne Jarrett is challenging for Muhammad's starting spot as we expect Muhammad to still get a fair share of balls thrown his way.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad did not play in Saturday's preseason game at Miami because of a groin injury. He was in uniform but did not get on the field.
Analysis: Muhammad was held out as a precaution. The Panthers did the same thing with Steve Smith (shoulder) and Jonathan Stewart (Achilles' tendon). We expect Muhammad to be ready for the start of the regular season, and he is worth drafting as a No. 4 Fantasy WR. Even though Dwayne Jarrett is challenging for Muhammad's starting spot, Muhammad will still post enough stats to be worth a late-round pick as a Fantasy reserve.
News: The Carolina Growl reports there could be competition for the No. 2 WR spot in Carolina behind Steve Smith. Muhsin Muhammad is the incumbent, but the report says Dwayne Jarrett could push Muhammad for the starting spot. The report says "the Panthers would like Dwayne Jarrett to step up and assume that role. But Jarrett has to prove on the field that he brings more to the table than Muhammad, which isn't easy considering Muhammad is an outstanding downfield blocker and the Panthers love to run the football."
Analysis: We'll keep an eye on what happens in this competition, but we expect Muhammad to win the job because he's the veteran and Jarrett has been a disappointment. Regardless of who starts, Muhammad and Jarrett have minimal Fantasy value and are only worth drafting with late-round picks.
News: Panthers WR Mushin Muhammad made seven catches for 79 yards and a touchdown Week 17 against the Saints. It was Muhammad's fifth touchdown catch of the year as he fell 77 yards short of a 1,000-yard season.
Analysis: Muhammad is a No. 3 option heading into the playoffs but only a high-end reserve looking ahead to the 2009 season. The Panthers begin their playoff run the weekend of Jan. 10-11 in the NFC Divisional playoffs.
News: Panthers WR Mushin Muhammad is active for Week 17's game at New Orleans. Muhammad was listed as probable for the game with a foot injury that kept him out of practice on Wednesday. Muhammad had four catches for 80 yards last week against the Giants.
Analysis: Muhammad is active as expected for Week 17. However, he should not be treated as anything more than a No. 3 WR for the Panthers' game against the Saints.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad practiced in full Thursday and Friday after sitting out Wednesday earlier with a sore foot. He's listed as probable for Week 17 against the Saints in New Orleans.
Analysis: It appears like Muhammad will play Sunday at New Orleans. Treat him like a No. 3 Fantasy WR for the contest.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad practiced Thursday after sitting out a day earlier with a sore foot.
Analysis: It appears like Muhammad will play Sunday at New Orleans. Continue to monitor his status
News: Panthers starting receiver Muhsin Muhammad (foot) missed practice Wednesday. He is still expected to try and play at New Orleans in Week 17.
Analysis: For those of you in deeper leagues, Muhammad is worth keeping an eye on leading up to his game against the Saints since he is a candidate to produce like a No. 3 receiver. We'll keep you posted, but expect better news by Friday.
News: Panthers WR Mushin Muhammad caught four passes for a team-high 80 yards in Week 16 at the Giants. He was thrown to seven times in the game.
Analysis: Muhammad gained 60 yards on one play and very nearly scored a touchdown. Other than that, he was barely a factor on a night when Jake Delhomme threw for just 185 yards. The loss to the Giants, though, makes their Week 17 game in New Orleans a very important game. A win would clinch the division and a first-round playoff bye for the Panthers. That means the Panthers will not be able to hold anything back and makes Muhammad a decent play in larger leagues as a No. 3 WR on a week when many teams will be resting their stars. Muhammad had three catches for 43 yards in October against the Saints.
News: WR Mushin Muhammad had four catches for 70 yards on Sunday in Week 15 against the Broncos. His long was for 27 yards but he failed to get into the end zone for the third straight game. This was the most yards Muhammad has got since Oct. 5 against Kansas City when he got 71.
Analysis: Muhammad is certainly losing catches to Steve Smith who had nine catches on Week 15. If teams start focusing on Smith more, that could free Muhammad up to get more catches, although it's not like Smith is a well-kept secret. You can probably do better in Fantasy 16 when the Panthers travel to New York against the Giants.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad caught three passes for 43 yards Week 14 against the Buccaneers. He has no more than 50 yards receiving in seven straight games.
Analysis: Muhammad got off to a hot start in his return to the Panthers this season, but now that the team clearly prioritizes the running game, he gets nothing but a few token grabs each week. You can probably do better in Fantasy when the Panthers host the Broncos in Week 15.
News: In the Panthers' 35-31 win at the Packers in Week 13, WR Muhsin Muhammad caught two passes for 50 yards. Muhammad also had a fumble.
Analysis: Muhammad doesn't put up enough big stats on a consistent basis to warrant Fantasy use as anything but a No. 3 WR in the deepest of leagues. The Panthers host the Buccaneers in Week 14.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad caught a 16-yard touchdown pass Week 12 at Atlanta, finishing with four catches for 40 yards. He has four touchdown receptions on the season.
Analysis: Muhammad's production has tailed off since the return of Steve Smith from his suspension. He has less than 50 yards receiving in five straight games and is no more than a No. 3 Fantasy WR in Week 13 at Green Bay.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad caught just one pass for 16 yards in Week 11's win over the Lions. QB Jake Delhomme threw for just 98 yards on the game and most of them went to Steve Smith.
Analysis: He's taking a backseat to Steve Smith but is still a contributor for the Panthers passing game and should be considered a No. 3 Fantasy WR in Week 12 at Atlanta.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad caight three passes for 38 yards and a touchdown to lead the Panthers in Week 10's win over the Raiders. QB Jake Delhomme completed just seven passes in the entire game so Muhammad's three was a big percentage. After Johnnie Lee Higgins fumbled the opening kickoff for the Raiders at the 16, Delhomme converted on a 3-yard touchdown pass to Muhammad for the game's first score.
Analysis: Muhammad notched his first touchdown reception since Week 5 against Kansas City and now has three on the season. He's taking a backseat to Steve Smith but is still a contributor for the Panthers passing game and should be considered a No. 3 Fantasy WR in Week 11 as Carolina hosts the Lions.
News: Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad had five catches for 38 yards Sunday against Arizona.
Analysis: Muhammad should have caught a touchdown pass, but he dropped one when he was wide open in the end zone in the first half. Still, he remains a No. 3 Fantasy WR and should be used in Week 10 at Oakland when the Panthers return from their bye week.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad is not suffering from an injury and was able to practice in full on Thursday. He's expected to play in Week 8 vs. Arizona.
Analysis: Muhammad caught three passes for 43 yards Week 7 against the Saints -- his second-worst performance of the season. Muhammad's second-worst game coincided with Steve Smith's best game, and the two might battle for yards all season. Muhammad clearly looks rejuvenated with his return to Carolina, though, and had a monster 2004 season with QB Jake Delhomme throwing him the ball. Consider him a No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 8 against the Cardinals.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad caught three passes for 43 yards Week 7 against the Saints -- his second-worst performance of the season. He missed some practice this season with a knee injury.
Analysis: Muhammad's second-worst game coincided with Steve Smith's best game, and the two might battle for yards all season. Muhammad clearly looks rejuvenated with his return to Carolina, though, and had a monster 2004 season with QB Jake Delhomme throwing him the ball. Consider him a No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 8 against the Cardinals.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad (knee), listed as probable for Week 7 vs. New Orleans after practicing in full Thursday and Friday, is active and will play Sunday.
Analysis: Muhammad has 29 catches for 426 yards and two touchdowns in six games. He is doing his best to co-exist with WR Steve Smith and create a viable receiving duo for Jake Delhomme. Get him active as a No. 3 Fantasy WR.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad (knee) is listed as probable for Week 7 vs. New Orleans. Muhammad has practiced in full Thursday and Friday after limited reps Wednesday.
Analysis: Muhammad has 29 catches for 426 yards and two touchdowns in six games. He is doing his best to co-exist with WR Steve Smith and create a viable receiving duo for Jake Delhomme. It appears as though Muhammad will play Week 7 and can be considered a No. 3 Fantasy WR.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad (knee) participated in full Thursday after being limited Wednesday. Count on Muhammad to start in Week 7 vs. New Orleans.
Analysis: Consider Muhammad a No. 2 Fantasy option for Week 7 against the Saints.
News: A knee injury limited Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad in practice on Wednesday. He is considered questionable for Week 7 against the Saints, although he is expected to play at this time.
Analysis: Muhammad is excited for the game against the Saints and has called it a big opportunity for the Panthers. That sounds like he expects to play in the game. Playing second fiddle to Steve Smith, Muhammad has revived his Fantasy appeal as a No. 2 Fantasy wideout. Use him in that role for Week 7 against New Orleans, if healthy.
News: Panthers WR Mushin Muhammad caught four passes for 68 yards in Week 6 at Tampa Bay. His longest catch went for 35 yards. He was targeted seven times in the game.
Analysis: The Panthers had a tough time throwing the ball against the vaunted "Tampa Two" defense and Muhammad's overall numbers were not that great as a result. Steve Smith was able to rack up some yardage underneath the zone coverage going east to west rather than north and south. Muhammad was not as lucky. His numbers were not totally useless, though, and he has revived his Fantasy appeal to that of a No. 2 receiver this season even with Smith around. Use him in that role for Week 7 against New Orleans.
News: It's been four years since Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad last played the Bucs, but he did have a nice outing in that game, pulling in eight catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns. The Buccaneers have allowed eight passing touchdowns this year, ranking them fifth worst in the league.
Analysis: Everyone knew Muhammad could be in for a nice rebound year this season thanks to the rebirth of his partnership with Jake Delhomme, but no one thought he would be the 15th-ranked WR in standard scoring leagues through five weeks. Consider him a great No. 3 Fantasy WR or 'flex' option heading into Week 6.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad scored on a 47-yard reception in the third quarter of Week 5's 34-0 win against the Chiefs. He finished with three catches for 71 yards and now has a touchdown in two straight games.
Analysis: Muhammad was seeing many more passes come his way in the first two games because Steve Smith was sidelined because of a suspension. Since Smith's return, he has become the featured wide receiver as expected, but QB Jake Delhomme is still finding ways to get Muhammad involved. Consider him a No. 3 Fantasy WR heading into Week 6 against the Bucs.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad now has five career 100-yard receiving games against the Falcons after he made eight catches for 147 yards and a touchdown in a Week 4 win over the Falcons.
Analysis: Muhammad's owners must be wishing he could play the Falcons every week! Still, Jake Delhomme has always loved to throw Muhsin the ball and the arrival of Steve Smith isn't going to hurt his stats that much. While he won't put up 100 yards too often, Muhammad is definitely a capable No. 3 Fantasy WR or 'flex' option heading into Week 5 vs. Kansas City.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad has four career 100-yard games against the Falcons, including in two of their last three meetings. Carolina hosts Atlanta in Week 4.
Analysis: Muhammad is back to being the No. 2 guy in Charlotte now that Steve Smith is back in the fold, so a 100-yard outing on Sunday isn't likely to happen. Consider him a 'flex' option at best for Week 4.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad had three catches for 25 yards Sunday at Minnesota.
Analysis: Muhammad will take a backseat in the passing game with Steve Smith back from his suspension. For now, consider Muhammad a No. 4 Fantasy WR in Week 4 against Atlanta.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad is with a new team in 2008, but he has a good history to look back at against the Vikings, as he played for the Bears against them a lot while in Chicago. While he had a nine-catch, 118-yard outing in 2006, he has failed to get more than two catches or 50 yards in three of his last five games against Minnesota. Carolina visits the Metrodome in Week 3.
Analysis: Muhammad will take a back seat to the reinstated Steve Smith in Week 3, but he should still be a serviceable low-end Fantasy option the rest of the way if he remains healthy. You're probably better off leaving him on your bench for Week 3, but hold on to him for bye-week replacement purposes.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad had a touchdown called back vs. Chicago in Week 2 thanks to a holding penalty on an offensive lineman teammate. That cost him a productive day for Fantasy owners as he wound up with 59 yards on five catches.
Analysis: Muhammad was a sleeper for this week, and probably will put Fantasy owners to sleep for the rest of the season since WR Steve Smith is returning from his team-mandated two-game suspension in Week 3. Muhammad doesn't belong in active lineups, and maybe not on Fantasy rosters, beginning this week. By the way, the Panthers play at Minnesota in Week 3.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad opened his second tenure with the team Week 1 against the Chargers. Muhammad, who spent the last three seasons with Chicago after the first nine with Carolina, had six catches for 56 yards. His longest reception went for 15 yards and he was targeted 12 times.
Analysis: Muhammad acted as the team's No. 1 receiver Week 1 with Steve Smith beginning a two-game suspension. Muhammad will serve in that role until Smith returns, so don't get overly excited about his early-season success. Consider Muhammad more of a No. 4 Fantasy WR for Week 2 against the Bears.
News: Carolina WRs Muhsin Muhammad and Ryne Robinson remained out on Thursday against the Steelers.
Analysis: Muhammad could have played in the team's last preseason game and didn't and figures just to be taking precautions by sitting out. He has the makings of a moderate-catch, low-yardage receiver with a handful of touchdowns in 2008. He's best served as a reserve Fantasy receiver worth a late-round pick in drafts. Robinson might get involved on offense a little bit more in 2008, but he's expected to still do most of his work on special teams. Thus, keep him out of Fantasy draft plans, even when healthy.
News: Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad said he could have played Saturday against the Redskins, but the coaches decided to rest him after he bruised his ribs a week earlier. He might play Thursday against the Steelers in the preseason finale.
Analysis: Muhammad is not expected to miss the start of the regular season and will be a starting wide receiver for the Panthers. He has the makings of a moderate-catch, low-yardage receiver with a handful of touchdowns in 2008. He's best served as a reserve Fantasy receiver worth a late-round pick in drafts.
News: Carolina WRs Muhsin Muhammad and Ryne Robinson remained out on Saturday against the Redskins and are still questionable for Aug. 28 at Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Muhammad is out with a ribs issue.
News: Carolina receivers D.J. Hackett, Muhsin Muhammad and Ryne Robinson are still sidelined in practice as of Wednesday, reports the team's official website. While Robinson and Harris can lean on previous seasons as Panthers to aid in their preparation, Hackett can only refer back to his five seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, as he joined the Panthers as an unrestricted free agent in March. Coach John Fox isn't concerned about the amount of time that Hackett has missed, however. "The key is he has caught passes from a lot of good quarterbacks, not to take anything away from the timing that you develop with your own quarterback," Fox said. "I'd prefer that he be out there and so would he. The reality is he hasn't been. But we saw quite a bit of him in the (organized team activities) and at camp before the injury. We're just hoping to get him back out there as soon as possible." Fox hopes that could be by next week. "Right now, my hope is to get a lot of those guys back on Monday," Fox said. "Whether that comes to reality or not, I don't know yet; that's up to our medical people."
Analysis: Hackett sounds like he won't play in Saturday's preseason game against the Redskins and the same goes for Muhammad and Robinson. With Steve Smith suspended, Hackett is projected to start the opening week of the season so hopefully he'll be healthy enough for that to happen. We expect he should be and that makes him a decent sleeper for a late-round pick. He can be injury prone, as we've seen, and that does limit his value. Muhammad took a helmet-to-helmet hit from Brian Dawkins in the team's last preseason game but was OK. He's actually out with a ribs issue. He has the makings of a moderate-catch, low-yardage receiver with a handful of touchdowns in 2008. He's best served as a reserve Fantasy receiver worth a late-round pick in drafts.Robinson might get involved on offense a little bit more in 2008, but he's expected to still do most of his work on special teams. News:Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad caught two passes for 12 yards and dropped a touchdown pass when he took a helmet-to-helmet hit from Brian Dawkins at Philadelphia in preseason play.
Analysis: Muhammad has the makings of a moderate-catch, low-yardage receiver with a handful of touchdowns in 2008. He's best served as a reserve Fantasy receiver worth a late-round pick in drafts.
News:Jake Delhomme was watching television in February when he saw the crawl that Muhsin Muhammad had been released by the Chicago Bears. Less than 20 minutes later, the Panthers quarterback was on the phone with teammate Steve Smith, plotting a way to get Muhammad back in Carolina. "We were saying we got to somehow get it done, because we know how much he means to this offense," Delhomme said. "We were selfish. He can help me and Steve. We wanted him to be back." About a week later, Muhammad signed with the Panthers, who never effectively replaced him when he left for the Bears four years ago. Even though he is 35 and coming off one of his least productive seasons, the Panthers hope their franchise leader in catches and yards receiving can help end two years of offensive ineptitude.
Analysis: Smith clearly relishes having his friend as teammate again, too. After Muhammad was let go in a salary-cap move after the 2004 season, the Panthers tried to replace him at the No. 2 receiver spot with Keary Colbert, Keyshawn Johnson, Dwayne Jarrett, Colbert again and Drew Carter. Nothing worked. "He and Steve get along great," Delhomme said. "They respect each other the utmost. It's fun to watch." The Panthers insist they aren't concerned with Muhammad's age. Never a speedster, Muhammad has been best known for his precision route running and being one of the NFL's best blocking receivers. Muhammad started all 16 games for the Bears last season, but was held to 40 catches, the fewest since his second year in Carolina. Muhammad will have some competition for the No. 2 receiver job. Carolina also signed former Seahawk D.J. Hackett in the offseason, and Jarrett is hoping to recover from a dismal rookie season. Muhammad is shaping up to be a Fantasy reserve and possible bye-week replacement heading into the season.
News: According to the Carolina Growl, Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad ran with the starters during minicamp while D.J. Hackett was the No. 3 receiver. Dwayne Jarrett and Ryne Robinson continue to battle for the No. 4 spot, followed by Jason Carter. Hackett, a free agent pickup from Seattle, said he's picking up as much in the way of tips from veteran receivers Steve Smith and Muhammad as he is the coaching staff at this point. "Each one of them, they know the little things," Hackett said. "You don't go to the coach every time because he's worrying about a lot of other things. The guys who are already here, you can learn a lot from them."
Analysis: Hackett has more Fantasy potential because of his upside. Muhammad is an aging veteran. Keep an eye on what develops during training camp, but both players will likely steal catches from each other. Both are late-round Fantasy options at wide receiver coming into the year.
News:Muhsin Muhammad is a Carolina Panther again as the two sides agreed to terms Wednesday. The veteran receiver now gets his chance to return to where he played his first nine seasons in the NFL, this time as a possession receiver opposite Steve Smith. Muhammad was released by the Chicago Bears earlier this offseason.
Analysis: Muhammad turns 35 in May and was held to 40 catches for 570 yards and three touchdowns with the Bears last season. The Panthers are hoping Dwayne Jarrett, who had a disappointing rookie season, will become the No. 2 receiver, but at least now he has some serious competition. Muhammad, who is considered a strong blocker, could become the No. 3 receiver and a mentor for Jarrett, or oust Jarrett from the No. 2 spot himself. He's a quality Fantasy reserve WR that's not bad as a bye-week replacement. Figure him to be a late-round pick in deeper drafts this summer.
News:Muhsin Muhammad is close to being a Carolina Panther again. Muhammad's agent, Joel Segal, and Carolina general manager Marty Hurney said Tuesday that they are close to a deal that would return the veteran receiver to where he played his first nine seasons in the NFL. "Hopefully we can get something done in the next day or so," Hurney said. The two sides began talking shortly after Muhammad was released by the Chicago Bears last week. The Panthers, looking to get help for Steve Smith, have made receiver as one of the team's offseason priorities. Muhammad and Smith started together for parts of three seasons, including in 2003 when the Panthers lost to New England in the Super Bowl. Muhammad maintained a home in Charlotte after he was let go in a salary cap move following the 2004 season and his agent made it clear that Carolina is his client's top choice.
Analysis: It's unclear what role Muhammad would play with the Panthers. He turns 35 in May and was held to 40 catches for 570 yards and three touchdowns with the Bears last season. The Panthers are hoping Dwayne Jarrett, who had a disappointing rookie season, will become the No. 2 receiver. Muhammad, who is considered a strong blocker, could become the No. 3 receiver and a mentor for Jarrett. He's a quality Fantasy reserve WR that's not bad as a bye-week replacement. Figure him to be a late-round pick in deeper drafts this summer.
News: The Charlotte Observer reports that free-agent WR Muhsin Muhammad, released by the Bears earlier this offseason, wants to return to the Panthers. "Carolina, that's where he wants to be," agent Joel Segal said. "They're one of a few teams I'm talking to, but I would say that's correct, he would prefer to play there."
Analysis: Muhammad's numbers declined further in 2007, his 12th NFL season. Starting every game with Chicago, 'Moose' caught 40 passes for 570 yards (a 14.3 avg.) with three touchdowns, his lowest total since one in an injury-shortened 2001. Muhammad is still a big-bodied target for a quarterback to throw to, which is why the Panthers have a use for him. However, it's clear that he's nowhere near the stud he was several years ago. He's a quality Fantasy reserve WR that's not bad as a bye-week replacement. Figure him to be a late-round pick in deeper drafts this summer.
News: The Bears released former Pro Bowl wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad on Monday, cutting the veteran after three seasons. Muhammad spent his first nine seasons with the Carolina Panthers and made two Pro Bowls, but was released in February 2005 after setting career highs with 1,405 yards receiving and 16 touchdowns. He immediately signed a six-year contract with the Bears, but his numbers dropped dramatically in Chicago. He caught 40 passes for 570 yards and three touchdowns as the Bears went 7-9 last season, and given his age - he turns 35 in May - the move wasn't shocking. Muhammad's best season with the Bears was in 2006, when had 863 yards and five touchdowns while helping the Bears reach the Super Bowl. That was an improvement over his first season in Chicago (750 yards and four touchdowns), but nothing like his final year with the Panthers. In 12 seasons, Muhammad has 742 receptions for 9,934 yards and 56 touchdowns.
Analysis: This appears to be a cap space issue as the Bears were thin at wide receiver to begin with. Muhammad can still play a role as a possession receiver within the NFL. Expect him to sign elsewhere (Carolina, perhaps) and be useful as a reserve Fantasy WR in 2008 drafts.
News:Muhsin Muhammad's numbers continued to decline in 2007, his 12th NFL season. Starting every game, 'Moose' caught 40 passes for 570 yards (a 14.3 avg.) with three touchdowns, his lowest total since one in an injury-shortened 2001.
Analysis: Muhammad is still a big-bodied target for a quarterback to throw to, so chances are that he won't be dropped this offseason unless the Bears need his cap space. However, it's clear that he's nowhere near the stud he was several years ago. He's a quality Fantasy reserve WR that's not bad as a bye-week replacement. Figure him to be a late-round pick in deeper drafts next summer.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad had an ankle injury that held him out of practice Thursday, but he practiced in full on Friday and is probable for Week 17 against the Saints.
Analysis: Muhammad has only three games with more than 55 yards receiving this season, so he's really not worth much of a look this week. It helps that he'll be playing at home against a really bad pass defense. He's got a shot at scoring, but he's at best a No. 4 Fantasy WR for Week 17.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad has an ankle injury that held him out of practice Thursday and has his status for Week 17 against the Saints in doubt.
Analysis: Muhammad has only three games with more than 55 yards receiving. He probably doesn't deserve his 50 percent ownership in Fantasy. Regardless of his injury status, reserve him for Week 17.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad was held without a catch in Week 16 vs. Green Bay.
Analysis: Muhummad was held without a catch in a game where QB Kyle Orton barely topped 100 yards passing. In Week 17 vs. New Orleans, start him only as a No. 3 receiver.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad caught two passes for 30 yards Week 15 at Minnesota. He had QB Kyle Orton throwing to him for the first time this season.
Analysis: Muhammad has only three games with more than 55 yards receiving. He probably doesn't deserve his 50 percent ownership in Fantasy. Reserve him for Week 16 against the Packers.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad caught four passes for 27 yards during a Week 14 loss to the Redskins. His longest reception went for eight yards. Muhammad doesn't have a touchdown catch in his last six games and doesn't have more than four receptions in any game during that same span.
Analysis: Muhammad has had a very poor season after posting some nice numbers in 2006. He is producing like a No. 3 wide receiver and not a guy that is always in the starting lineup. He is merely a low-end Fantasy option heading into Week 15 against the Vikings. Minnesota owns the worst pass defense in the NFL, so perhaps Muhammad might be a one-week sleeper.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad could only muster up 52 yards on three catches vs. the Giants in Week 13. He did have a key 20-yard catch to keep a late Bears drive alive; two of his three catches went for at least 20 yards.
Analysis: Berrian and the Bears will play on Thursday at Washington as part of Week 14, but Muhammad is lost in the shuffle statistically in Chicago. At best, he's a low-end No. 3 WR in deeper Fantasy leagues.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad had two catches for 26 yards Sunday against Denver.
Analysis: Muhammad is a No. 3 Fantasy WR and should be considered in that capacity for Week 13 against the Giants.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad caught three passes for 71 yards during a Week 11 loss to the Seahawks. His longest gain went for 41 yards and he failed to score a touchdown. Muhammad has still not turned in a 100-yard performance this season, but has totaled 70 or more yards in three of the last four games.
Analysis: The Bears offense hasn't been very explosive for most of the season, but now that Rex Grossman is back under center, a change could be coming down the stretch. Treat Muhammad as no better than a No. 4 Fantasy WR heading into Week 12 against the Broncos.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad caught four passes for 87 yards during a Week 10 win over the Raiders. His longest reception went for 33 yards. Berrian now has 23 catches for 335 yards in nine games.
Analysis: Muhammad has been over 50 yards just twice this season, both times coming in the last three games. He has been a very disappointing Fantasy option and is nothing more than a No. 4 Fantasy WR or 'flex' option for Week 11 against the Seahawks.
News: Fantasy owners of Muhsin Muhammad have noticed that their wide receiver has scored in three of his last five games. They'll also know that he plays at Oakland in Week 10, and the Raiders own the fourth-best pass defense in the league ... well, at least statistically that's what they are (179.0 pass yards allowed on average; 7 passing TDs allowed all season).
Analysis: Muhammad isn't used much in Chicago's offense, which is a crime considering that it wasn't long ago that he was the NFL's leading receiver. At best, he is a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR in Week 10.
News: Bears WR Mushin Muhammad made two catches for 23 yards in Week 8 vs. Detroit.
Analysis: Muhammad had a touchdown in each of the last two games and in three of his previous four, but he hasn't totaled 100 yards all season. He can be hit-or-miss, but still warrants use as a No. 3 receiver when healthy. In Week 9, however, the Bears will be on a bye.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad made five catches for 79 yards and hauled in the game-winning touchdown as Chicago came back to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles 19-16 in Week 7.
Analysis: Brian Griese really spread the ball around in Week 7, and Muhammad was having a pretty quiet day until catching the 15-yard touchdown pass to win the game for the Bears. Detroit, who Chicago host in Week 8, has one of the worst pass defense in the league, so consider Muhammad a nice Fantasy start in that game.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad has two touchdowns this season on 12 catches. That's a nice ratio, but if the Bears' veteran wideout can't catch more passes, he's going to fall further off the Fantasy map. He'll have a hard time catching a lot of balls at Philadelphia in Week 7. Not only are the Eagles ninth against the pass, but they're actually getting healthier with CB Lito Sheppard expected to start and FS Brian Dawkins closer to playing. And since Roy Williams' 204-yard outburst in Week 3 at Philadelphia, the Eagles have allowed just one touchdown pass and not allowed a 100-yard receiver.
Analysis: Chances are that Muhammad will be nothing better than a low-end No. 4 Fantasy WR. Try to keep him out of your active lineup if at all possible in Week 7.
News: Bears WR Mushin Muhammed caught two passes for 44 yards in Week 6 vs. Minnesota, including a 33-yard touchdown.
Analysis: Muhammad now has two touchdown catches this season, but he has just 12 catches all year. Keep him on your roster mainly just as a reserve to be used when the matchup is right. In Week 7 at Philadelphia, he could be useful as a bye-week replacement.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad has three one-reception games in 2007, but in Week 6 he will look to repeat his success from the first Bears game against the Vikings last season when he caught nine balls for 118 yards. In their second meeting last year, Muhammad was held to one five-yard catch as Rex Grossman struggled mightily.
Analysis: Muhammad has been a might disappointment this season and his ownership has dived from 83 percent of leagues at the start of the season to only 54 percent. If there's one week where Muhammad could break out of his slump, this is the week, as the Bears will be forced to pass against Minnesota. Still, Muhammad is nothing more than a No. 4 Fantasy WR for Week 6.
News: Muhsin Muhammad managed just one reception for 17 yards in Week 5 at Green Bay, while his fellow starting receiver Bernard Berrian was held to just one grab for 10 yards. In fact, wide receivers accounted for just four of the 15 receptions for the Bears. Tight ends were good for seven grabs and running backs also had four.
Analysis: That lack of production is not going to cut it for Fantasy owners of Berrian or Muhammad. Moose has managed just 10 receptions for 102 yards this season, so his Fantasy value is limited to deeper leagues as a No. 4 receiver or 'flex' option for Week 6 against the Vikings.
News: WR Muhsin Muhammad had six catches for 102 yards in last game at Green Bay. However, Muhammad only has nine catches for 85 yards this season.
Analysis: Muhammad must be pleased to see Brian Griese at QB instead of Rex Grossman, as Muhammad only caught four passes for 36 yards in the first three games this season. Green Bay's passing defense isn't that great, and so Muhammad's owners will be hoping he can continue to progress in Week 5, where he is nothing more than a No. 4 WR/Flex Fantasy option.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad came through for a touchdown on five catches for 49 yards at Detroit in Week 4. It's his first touchdown since scoring in Super Bowl XLI.
Analysis: Muhammad was leaned on more in this game than in the Bears' first three games combined. Think about using him as a No. 3 WR at Green Bay in Week 5.
News: The Bears threw five passing touchdowns in two games against the Lions last year. Muhsin Muhammad didn't catch one of them. In those contests, Muhammad caught seven balls for 123 yards. Limited to four catches through three games, Muhammad and the Bears have a favorable matchup at Detroit as the Lions' secondary ranks 31st in the NFL this season, giving up an average of 278.7 pass yards per game and yielding six passing TDs.
Analysis: Muhammad should be viewed as a desperation bye-week replacement this week. True, the Bears should do well against the Lions' secondary, but Muhammad's days of being reliable for 100 yards per game are gone. If you start Muhammad, expect no more than 60 yards.
News: Muhsin Muhammad posted two receptions for 21 yards in Week 3 against the Cowboys.
Analysis: Consider Muhammad as a No. 3 or No. 4 Fantasy wide receiver heading into Week 4 at Detroit.
News: With TE Greg Olsen making his NFL debut on Sunday, teams will now have to worry about another big pass-catching threat to go along with WRs Bernard Berrian and Muhsin Muhammad.
Analysis: Although Rex Grossman has struggled early in 2007, the Bears play the Chiefs in Week 3, and if the former Florida Gator can't do anything against Kansas City, then who can he succeed against? Treat Berrian as a No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 3 against the Cowboys.
News: The numbers are so stunning that Muhsin Muhammad feels like a clueless math student when he tries to figure out the equation. Two catches for 15 yards? It doesn't add up to him, yet that's exactly what the Chicago Bears' veteran receiver has after two games. "When I go back and look at the film, I'm probably the most critical person on myself," Muhammad said Wednesday. But when he reviewed the Bears' 14-3 season-opening loss at San Diego and last week's 20-10 victory over Kansas City, he saw a receiver who did nothing wrong. "I've been out there working hard," Muhammad said. "For whatever reason, it isn't bouncing my way right now. When my plays are getting called -- and there are plays getting called -- it's like the person covering takes it away every single time."
Analysis: Muhammad did play against the Chiefs despite nursing an ankle injury late in the week. The ankle injury has bothered him all season and it might have something to do with his poor performance to date. It also doesn't help that his QB is Rex Grossman. Treat Muhammad as a No. 3 or No. 4 Fantasy WR heading into Week 3 against the Cowboys.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad caught one pass for seven yards during a Week 2 win over the Chiefs.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad (ankle) is active for Week 2 vs. Kansas City. He was listed as probable on the team's injury report prior to the game.
Analysis: Muhammad wasn't involved much last week at San Diego but could be a good target for QB Rex Grossman to get reacquainted with against a suspect Chiefs defense. Turn to Muhammad as a No. 4 Fantasy WR for Week 2 action and hope he ends up with a touchdown to make the hometown fans happy.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad (ankle) is listed as probable for Week 2 vs. Kansas City. He did not practice Friday after doing so on Wednesday and Thursday.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad, on the Week 1 injury report with a nagging ankle injury, is not on the report this week. 'Moose' and the Bears host the Chiefs in Week 2.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad had an eight-yard catch and FB Jason McKie had five yards on two grabs at San Diego in Week 1. Both of these players contributed to the Bears' bottom line.
Analysis: Muhammad is a shaky No. 3 Fantasy WR, even with a decent matchup at home vs. Kansas City next week. Consider other options. As for McKie, he's only useful if your league mandates using fullbacks.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad (ankle) has landed on the injury report as probable for Week 1's game at San Diego. He did not practice on Friday
Analysis: Muhammad is coming off a solid season in which he hauled in 60 passes for 863 yards and five touchdowns. He serves as a low-end No. 3 WR option at best in most Fantasy leagues, especially with Bernard Berrian emerging for Chicago. He'll probably take the field, but, then again, you probably have a better option. Might as well play it safe and bench him.
News: Muhsin Muhammad started Monday's preseason game at Indianapolis, but he did not record any offensive statistics in the exhibition win. So far in two games, he has just one catch for 10 yards in limited action.
Analysis: Muhammad is coming off a solid season in which he hauled in 60 passes for 863 yards and five touchdowns. 'Moose' is still usable in Fantasy play despite being 34 years old, albeit as a low-end No. 3 option at best, especially with Bernard Berrian emerging for Chicago. Take him with a middle- to late-round pick in drafts.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad (leg) was able to play during Saturday's preseason game against the Texans. He had one reception for 10 yards.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad missed a fourth straight practice Saturday for what head coach Lovie Smith called a "leg injury."
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad may be an older veteran wideout, but he's still a starter in Chicago. And while he hasn't posted a 1,000-yard season in two years with the Bears, he has totaled over 1,500 yards and nine TDs in two seasons and even averaged over 14 yards per catch in 2006.
Analysis: 'Moose' is still usable in Fantasy play, albeit as a low-end No. 3 option at best, especially with Bernard Berrian emerging for Chicago. Take him with a middle- to late-round pick in drafts this summer.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad caught 60 passes for 863 yards and five touchdowns in 2006, not including a score in Super Bowl XLI.
Analysis: Muhammad has yet to have a 1,000-yard season since his 1,405-yard effort in 2004. In fact, it's worth noting that in his 11 seasons, he hasn't topped 1,000 yards in eight of them. Muhammad is definitely more of a strong, wide-bodied possession receiver that will help the Bears offense catch passes, but he won't be mistaken for a big-play option. Consider 'Moose' a No. 3 Fantasy WR with a pick in the middle-to-late rounds in drafts.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad played in the 2004 Super Bowl with the Panthers and joined the Bears as a free agent in 2005. He led the team with 60 receptions, had five TDs and 863 yards receiving. He had three 100-yard receiving games.
Analysis: Consider Muhammad a No. 2 WR option in Fantasy playoff leagues for the Super Bowl against the Colts.

News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad caught five passes for 65 yards and a touchdown vs. San Francisco in Week 8. Through seven games, Muhammad has more than half of the total yards he had in 2005.
Analysis: Muhammad has solidified himself as a No. 3 Fantasy WR, worth owning in all leagues. Consider him in that No. 3 WR spot vs. Miami in Week 9. The Dolphins pass defense is not anything special, to say the least.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad told the Chicago Tribune that he doesn't mind not being the big-play receiver. In fact, he likes it so long as the team is winning. "It's not necessarily bad to have other guys playing well on this team," he said. "Actually, it's refreshing, very refreshing to have good players with you. This is what I've been needing, a good player on the other side of me. Now that it's here, what would I do, complain about it? No. I'm happy about it."
Analysis: Muhammad faces a San Francisco team at home that is 30th against the pass in the NFL. The Niners have allowed 12 pass TDs vs. four interceptions, allowing 242.3 pass yards per game. Moose is a solid No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 8 Fantasy play.
News: Muhsin Muhammad had just one reception for two yards in Week 6 at Arizona, as he was just as listless as the Chicago offense was on Monday night.
Analysis: Moose has just three receptions for 12 yards in the past two games. Despite the tough stretch, he is still a decent No. 3 or 4 Fantasy receiver or 'flex' option in Week 8 against San Francisco once the team returns from its bye.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad had just 10 yards on two catches vs. Buffalo in Week 5, easily his worst game of the season.

Analysis: Muhammad is a solid No. 2 Fantasy receiver for Week 5 against the Bills.
News: Muhsin Muhammad had game bests of nine catches and 118 receiving yards, and after three games he leads the Bears with 19 catches for 279 yards, which is on pace for 101 catches and 1,488 yards. But Muhammad isn't the only receiving threat in the Bears' offense. He hasn't caught a touchdown pass yet, while wide receiver Bernard Berrian (12 catches, 208 yards) and tight end John Gilmore have two apiece, and tight end Desmond Clark (12 catches, 193 yards) and wide receiver Rashied Davis (5 catches, 87 yards) each have one touchdown. "I think it does a lot for the confidence of the guys on the offense, the other receivers, the running backs, the tight ends," Muhammad said. "Everybody knows that the ball can come to them on any given occasion, and that makes you play harder." Berrian had six catches for 70 yards against the Vikings, and Davis caught the game-winning 24-yard touchdown. "Eventually there's going to be some games where they may not be able to get the ball to me the way they want to," Muhammad said. "Just like today, I could be the decoy, and Rashied could make the big touchdown, or Bernard. It really makes it hard to defense me when you're balanced, and that's what we're trying to accomplish." According to coach Lovie Smith, it worked on Davis' first NFL touchdown, which gave the Bears a 19-16 victory. "I think they were definitely thinking about the ball going to elsewhere," Smith said. "Moose had (118) yards, but that's why you need a third receiver to step up at this point."
Analysis: The Bears have a difficult matchup this week against Seattle, but consider Muhammad a No. 2 WR, Berrian a No. 3 WR or flex player and keep Davis reserved. Clark is coming off an ankle injury, and his status is unknown, so keep an eye on it. He would be a good No. 2 TE this week.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad had nine catches for 118 yards at Minnesota in Week 3. This is Muhammad's second 100-yard game of the season; he did not have one 100-yard game in '05.
Analysis: Muhammad is a much more reliable Fantasy receiver this year than last, and might even get to 1,000 yards this season. However, his Week 4 matchup vs. Seattle won't be easy, and owners should look at him as a good No. 3 wideout if possible. Using him as a No. 2 could be dangerous.

News: The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad dropped 10 pounds this offseason and felt more explosive and quicker than ever during the preseason. In addition, he feels like he's in the best shape of his life. "That's what this game is all about, keeping the edge and finding what you need to do to keep the edge," Muhammad said. "I thought this would be a good thing for me to try. I feel quicker. I feel explosive. I feel good. I feel good where I am right now, and I feel good about playing."
Analysis: Muhammad should be a decent No. 3 or 4 Fantasy receiver this season and is a dark horse to get to 1,000 yards -- a lot of that will depend on who is throwing him the football. He's a pretty decent start as a No. 3 Fantasy WR at Green Bay in Week 1 -- last year he had Rex Grossman at quarterback and he caught five passes for 58 yards and a touchdown.
News: Muhsin Muhammad told the Chicago Tribune that he believes four preseason games is too many. "If I played only two preseason games, I'm ready to play. I do need at least one or two to get the live contact. But four is more than I need."
Analysis: Muhammad will continue to be a receiving threat for the Bears and should improve when he plays a full season with Rex Grossman or Brian Griese as his quarterback. He remains a good No. 3 Fantasy receiver with the potential to jump to No. 2.

Analysis: Muhammad came on near the end of the season and might re-emerge as a must-start again in 2006 if Rex Grossman can stay healthy.

Analysis: Muhammad should be reserved if at all possible in the regular-season finale.
News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad caught five passes for 58 yards with a touchdown at Green Bay in Week 16. He would have had more yards and at least one more score except he dropped two very catchable passes -- one in the end zone.
Analysis: The Bears have clinched the No. 2 seed, so they may not use their starters much in Week 17 at Minnesota. Muhammad probably shouldn't be an option in Week 17.
News: The Tribune reports Muhsin Muhammad (back, probable) is excited now that Rex Grossman is the quarterback. "I'm looking forward to catching some passes from Rex and just making the offense better and more balanced," Muhammad said. "Throughout the season, we've predominately been a run offense. I'd like to see us be more balanced so that when we go into the playoffs, we're not one-dimensional. Our offense is better than what we've shown so far. We come out of games and watch the film and there's a lot of offense we leave on the field. There are a lot of points we leave on the field. There's a lot of room for improvement."
Analysis: Even with Grossman under center, Muhammad should still be considered no better than a No. 3 wide receiver or flex starter for Week 16 at Green Bay.
News: Mushin Muhammad (back) is probable for Week 16 at Green Bay.
Analysis: With Rex Grossman getting the start in Week 16 at Green Bay, Muhammad's value increases. Grossman should be able to get him the ball more frequently and facing a suspect Packers defense, Muhammad could be a nice sleeper vs. the Packers.

News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad was held to zero catches vs. Green Bay in Week 13.

Analysis: Muhammad is a good sleeper pick vs. Green Bay in Week 13.

News: Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad had four catches for 58 yards vs. Cincinnati in Week 3.
Analysis: Muhammad's stats are stunted by Kyle Orton's erratic arm. He's at best a good No. 3 Fantasy receiver and probably shouldn't be a regular starter except in very deep leagues. The Bears are off in Week 4 and at Cleveland in Week 5.

Analysis: Muhammad will give the Bears a legit No. 1 passing option, but it's unlikely he will perform like a No. 1 Fantasy receiver. He's a nice No. 3 Fantasy WR and is worth a middle-round pick.
News: According to ChicagoBears.com, new wideout Muhsin Muhammad is already fitting in with his new teammates, especially quarterback Rex Grossman. "Moose is amazing," Grossman said. "I think any quarterback would be able to get a pretty good relationship with him going. He's such a smart player, he uses his body well, he has huge hands and he really runs good routes."

Analysis: Muhammad was resurgent in 2004, reeling in 16 touchdowns and tallying 1,405 yards. He was likely due for a decrease in production this season and signing with the Bears cemented that.
