News: The Patriots re-signed defensive back Marquice Cole Wednesday. He played in 14 games last year.
Analysis: He's just organizational depth for New England. He has no Fantasy value at this time.
News: New England cornerback Marquice Cole picked off his first pass of the season on Sunday of the Week 16 win at Jacksonville. Cole intercepted a Chad Henne offering in the game and finished with five tackles.
Analysis: Cole has seen a lot of action this season but it has mostly come on special teams. He has just 16 tackles all year. Cole is a low-end option in all IDP formats.
News: Patriots cornerback Marquice Cole suffered a hamstring injury Week 8 at St. Louis (London). Cole had one solo tackle and two pass defenses before getting hurt.
Analysis: Cole saw extended playing time Sunday after Kyle Arrington suffered a head injury early in the game, but then Cole exited with an injury of his own. He is just a backup cornerback for New England and has no Fantasy appeal.
News: The Patriots announced Monday the signing of two free agents: defensive end Trevor Scott from the Raiders and cornerback Marquice Cole from the Jets. Scott, Oakland's sixth-round draft choice out of Buffalo in 2008, had 13.5 sacks in 58 games, including 16 starts, in four seasons with the Raiders. Cole, who spent the past three seasons with the Jets, was undrafted coming out of Northwestern in 2007. He signed as a rookie free agent with Oakland, then moved on to Tennessee and New Orleans. In 37 games, including one start, he has two interceptions, including a 35-yard touchdown return.
Analysis: Scott has some potential but might have to earn regular playing time. We wouldn't recommend drafting either defender in Fantasy play.
News: CB Marquice Cole and DE Marcus Dixon have been re-resigned. Both were exclusive rights free agents.
Analysis: Neither of these players are expected to produce many stats in the first place. Keep them off of Fantasy rosters.
News: Jets CB Marquice Cole had a breakout game with two interceptions in the Week 17 win over the Bills with Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie sitting out. One of his interceptions went for a 35-yard touchdown in the second quarter. "I just take it as it comes," Cole said after the game. "I always knew I could play ball. I was on 13 (Bills WR Steve Johnson) all day, and I knew they were going to feed him the ball."
Analysis: The Jets gave Cole the tough assignment in the Week 17 game and he more than did the job adequately. Still, he's going to give way to the starters in the playoffs and enters next season with little Fantasy value.
News: The Jets have declared their inactives for Week 8 vs. Miami: QB Kevin O'Connell, WR Brad Smith, QB Erik Ainge, DB Lito Sheppard, DB Ahmad Carroll, DB Marquice Cole and DL Marques Murrell.
Analysis: Sheppard, the only guy on this list with Fantasy value, was listed as doubtful, so hopefully you already made plans to be without him in IDP leagues. Everyone else is not worth worrying about.
News: The Jets' list of inactives for Week 6 against the Bills includes QB Kevin O'Connell, QB Erik Ainge, WR Brad Smith, DB Donald Strickland, DB Marquice Cole and LB Ryan Fowler.
Analysis: None of these players contributes enough statistically to matter in Fantasy even when active. Leave them all on waivers.
News: The Jets have waived CB Marquice Cole to make room for the reinstatement of suspended DE Shaun Ellis. Ellis was suspended for the first game of the season and fined $100,000 by the NFL for violating the league's substance-abuse policy last season. Ellis was arrested last November and charged with possession of marijuana, speeding and driving without insurance after being pulled over by police in Hanover, N.J., a few miles from the team's training facility in Florham Park. He's expected to play in the Jets' home opener against New England on Sunday.
Analysis: Cole, signed as a free agent in February, was inactive for the Jets' 24-7 win at Houston on Sunday. He should not be owned in any Fantasy format.
News: The Jets listed the following players as inactive for Week 1 at Houston: QB Erik Ainge, QB Kevin O'Connell, RB Shonn Greene, DB Drew Coleman, DB Marquice Cole, TE Matthew Mulligan and LB Ryan Fowler.
Analysis: Aside from Greene, who was listed as probable and was likely held out as a coach's decision, none of the player's on this list have any Fantasy appeal. Leave them on waivers in all leagues.
News: The Oakland Raiders released third-round pick Quentin Moses, veteran fullback Zack Crockett and free-agent safety Donovin Darius on Saturday as they reduced their roster to 53 players. Receiver Alvis Whitted, who started 15 games last year without catching a touchdown pass, was also let go. The other players cut were: TEs James Adkisson and O.J. Santiago; OLs Jesse Boone, Chad Slaughter, Kevin Boothe and Mark Wilson; LBs Kurt Campbell and Kyle Shotwell; WRs Carlos Francis and Chris McFoy; DLs Anttaj Hawthorne, Josh Shaw and Dave Tollefson; DB Marquice Cole and rookie DB Eric Frampton; and PK Tyler Fredrickson.
Analysis: There are a bunch of surprises here, including Moses, Darius, Crockett, Whitted and Frampton. Expect those players to find new homes soon. Ultimately, all of the above players should be considered unusable for Fantasy purposes until they find regular playing time with an NFL team.
