David Carr driven out of New York by Giants

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(8/31/2013) The Giants have announced that they have waived quarterback David Carr, once a stalwart starter in Houston. Carr started for the Texans every year from 2002 to 2006 and led the league in completion percentage in the last of those seasons. But his record with the team was a meager 23-56. He played in 18 games with the Giants, but none as a starter.

The following players have also been cut by the Giants: defensive ends Adrian Tracy, Adewale Ojomo and Matt Broha, defensive tackle Marvin Austin, linebacker Kyle Bosworth, offensive linemen Eric Herman, Matt McCants, Stephen Goodin and Bryant Browning, safety David Caldwell, cornerbacks Terrence Frederick and Charles James, and wide receivers Kevin Hardy, Marcus Harris and Julian Talley.

The Giants also terminated the contract of running back Ryan Torain and waived safety Tyler Sash with an injury settlement.

Giants draft a giant DT in Austin

(5/9/2011) The New York Giants have a history of giving second chances to talented players who have problems off the field. They did it again when they selected North Carolina defensive tackle Marvin Austin in the second round of the draft. Austin started 25 of 38 games at North Carolina, finishing with 106 tackles, nine sacks and 14 pressures before he was suspended and eventually dismissed from the Tar Heels in 2010 for accepting illegal gifts from an agent. "You look at his tape as a junior and you see a really good football player," Giants GM Jerry Reese said. "Again, we had him very highly rated. This guy is going to be a tremendous player for us."
