Sheard moving to linebacker

News: Browns coach Rob Chudzinski told the official team website that Jabaal Sheard has "picked things up really well" in his move from defensive end to outside linebacker. "I know there was a number of 3-4 teams that looked at him when he was coming out of college, that were really interested in him," Chudzinski said. "I've been impressed with him from a mental standpoint and what he’s been able to bring out to the field."
Analysis: Sheard registered as a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy DL last year thanks to his 7.0 sacks and 55 total tackles. In fact Sheard had 55 total tackles in each of his first two years in the league, both as a down lineman. Moving to linebacker will take some of his Fantasy appeal away because he won't be considered a high-tackle producer. He's still worth a late-round pick, though.

Sheard's sack streak ends

News: Browns defensive linemen Jabaal Sheard failed to record a sack for the first time in two games during Week 16 against the Broncos. Sheard, who has five sacks on the season, finished with seven tackles in the 34-12 defeat with five of those being credited as solo stops.
Analysis: Sheard's main asset to Fantasy owners is his ability to get to the quarterback. He only has 42 tackles on the season and with one game left on the schedule, only owners in deeper IDP formats should continue to roll with him heading into Week 17.

Sheard records sack Week 15

News: Cleveland defensive lineman Jabaal Sheard picked up a sack of quarterback Kirk Cousins during the Week 15 loss to Washington. Sheard had a solid game and finished with three tackles for the Browns.
Analysis: Sheard now has 42 tackles on the season to go with five sacks for the Browns. Still, he doesn't do enough of either to really be considered a viable Fantasy option in most IDP formats.

Sheard adds a sack

News: For the first time in three games, Browns defensive lineman Jabaal Sheard got to the quarterback in Week 14 against the Chiefs Sunday. He finished the game with one sack and four tackles in a 30-7 win.
Analysis: Sheard has disappointed in his second season in the league, posting just 4.0 sacks through 13 games. He will likely end up short of his total of 8.5 as a rookie. He also has 39 tackles on the year, so consider him more of a low-end Fantasy IDP option moving forward.

Sheard starting to heat up

News: Browns defensive lineman Jabaal Sheard totaled two solo tackles and one sack Week 11 at Dallas. It was his third sack of the season and second in as many games.
Analysis: Sheard is off to a great start in November. He has 10 tackles and two sacks thus far this month. He is finally starting to make an impact in Fantasy IDP formats after a slow start to the season. If you are looking for defensive line help, then it might be worth a flier to pick up Sheard.

Sheard makes larger impact

News: Browns defensive lineman Jabaal Sheard posted eight tackles and assisted on a sack during Cleveland's 25-15 loss to Baltimore in Week 9. Sheard teamed with Juqua Parker on the Browns' only sack of quarterback Joe Flacco to give him 1.5 sacks on the season.
Analysis: Sheard's tackle total also represented a season high as he easily surpassed his total from the previous three games combined (six). The 23-year-old is known for having a solid outing from time to time, but is mainly revered for his sack totals -- but they have been minimal this season. Fantasy owners should keep him active only in deeper IDP formats as he attempts to draw closer to the 8.5 sacks he posted last year.

Sheard finishes with two stops Week 7

News: Cleveland defensive lineman Jabaal Sheard only managed two tackles in the Week 7 loss at Indianapolis. Sheard had one hit on the quarterback in the game and both his tackles were solo.
Analysis: The 23-year-old Sheard has a sack this season for the Browns but has otherwise done little in the defense. He is not a recommended Fantasy option for Week 8 against San Diego.

Sheard fails to increase sack total

News: Browns defensive lineman Jabaal Sheard totaled three solo tackles Week 5 at N.Y. Giants. It was the fourth time in five games he has been held to three or fewer tackles and no sacks.
Analysis: Sheard's profile as a rising pass rusher has made it tougher for him to be a factor in 2012. He had a strong rookie season in 2011, so opposing teams have taken notice, which is why Sheard is struggling to put up stats. He is a low-end Fantasy option in IDP formats until his numbers begin to improve.

Sheard records first sack

News: Browns defensive lineman Jabaal Sheard had his best game of the season Thursday against the Ravens in Week 4, as he posted a season-high six tackles while also getting his first sack of the year. The Browns would lose the game, 23-16.
Analysis: Sheard has been quiet in the early going this season, after posting 55 tackles and 8.5 sacks as a rookie, so hopefully this gets him going. Sheard had just one sack through the first four games as a rookie as well, so Fantasy owners should still consider him a decent low-end IDP option moving forward.

Jabaal Sheard

Sheard not doing much thus far

News: Browns defensive lineman Jabaal Sheard totaled three tackles (two solo) Week 3 vs. Buffalo. Sheard has six tackles (five solo) and two pass defenses in three games.
Analysis: Sheard is having a very quiet start to the season after having a solid rookie campaign in 2011. Teams are paying more attention to him, so Sheard has to figure out some way to make plays. He has low-end Fantasy appeal until he gets on a roll.

Sheard quiet against the Eagles

News: Browns DL Jaball Sheard had just one tackle Sunday against the Eagles.
Analysis: Sheard, who registered 55 total tackles and 8 1/2 sacks last year, is off to an inauspicious start in 2012. Owned in 46 percent of leagues, Sheard should be considered a low-end DL option. He has a less-daunting task in Week 2 against the Bengals.

Sheard tallies some sacks

News: Browns DL Jabaal Sheard passed Michael Dean Perry for second place on the team's all-time rookie sack list with 7 1/2 on Sunday against the Cardinals. He finished the game with three solo tackles.
Analysis: Sheard entered Week 15 with a forearm injury, but was able to get to the quarterback twice. He now has 48 tackles on the year for the Browns. Fantasy owners in IDP formats should consider Sheard a low-end DL option.

Sheard ready for Cards

News: Browns DL Jabaal Sheard was active on Sunday, despite dealing with a forearm injury.
Analysis: Sheard has recorded at least one sack and a forced fumble in three consecutive weeks to continue his progression in his rookie season. He has 5 1/2 sacks overall and 45 tackles. Consider him a quality option in most Fantasy IDP formats.

Sheard to stay in lineup

News: Cleveland DL Jabaal Sheard is considered probable for Week 15 at Arizona after dealing with a forearm issue in practice. Sheard was a full participant in practice throughout the past week and is expected to play against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Sheard has recorded at least one sack and a forced fumble in three consecutive weeks to continue his progression in his rookie season. He has 5 1/2 sacks overall and 45 tackles. Consider him a quality option in most Fantasy IDP formats for Week 15.

Sheard quieted in Week 14

News: Browns DL Jabaal Sheard had put together three consecutive weeks with at least one sack and a forced fumble heading into Week 14, but Sheard was very quiet in the Browns 14-3 loss to the Steelers.
Analysis: Sheard had been coming on strong with his streak, but Week 14 was just a bad week for him. Still, he's shown what kind of potential he has in his rookie season,

Sheard goes for the hat-trick

News: Browns DL Jabaal Sheard had a sack and a forced fumble in Week 13, as he chased Ravens QB Joe Flacco down from behind and forced the ball out during the Browns 24-10 loss in Week 13. It was the third week in a row that Sheard has recorded a sack and a forced fumble. He added nine tackles (six solo) and a pass defended in the loss.
Analysis: Sheard, a rookie, has really come on in recent weeks, and he peaked in Week 13. He has 15 tackles in the last three games, and now has 5.5 sacks and five forced fumbles on the season. His stock is rising in a big way in Fantasy IDP formats, and should now be considered a decent Fantasy DL.

Sheard ready to roll Week 12

News: Browns DL Jabaal Sheard (thigh) has been cleared to play Week 12 at Cincinnati after being probable on the injury report.
Analysis: Sheard dealt with the same injury leading up to Week 11 and played. He also had a sack in the game, so it doesn't appear the injury limits him too much. Sheard is a rising DL prospect, but he remains just a low-end Fantasy start.

Sheard cleared to play Week 11

News: Browns DL Jabaal Sheard (thigh) is active for Week 11 vs. Jacksonville. He was probable on the injury report.
Analysis: The rookie defensive end has cooled down a bit after a hot start, but everyone sees the potential he brings to the table. It's just that Sheard is a low-end Fantasy DL.

News: Browns DL Jabaal Sheard (thigh) returned to a full practice Friday and was upgraded to probable for Week 11 vs. Jacksonville. He was limited Wednesday and Thursday.
Analysis: The rookie defensive end has cooled down a bit after a hot start, but everyone sees the potential he brings to the table. It's just that Sheard is a low-end Fantasy DL.

Sheard quiet in Week 8

News: Browns DL Jabaal Sheard was relatively quiet in Week 8 against the 49ers. Sheard finished with just three tackles -- two solo -- in the 20-10 loss. He now has 24 stops on the season.
Analysis: Sheard has played well during his rookie campaign and has become popular off the waiver wire for his ability to get to the QB. However, when he doesn't record a sack, his tackle totals aren't usually enough to stand alone. Consider him a low-end Fantasy DL heading into Week 9 against the Texans.

Sheard records 1/2 sack Week 7

News: Browns DL Jabaal Sheard totaled three tackles (two solo) and 1/2 sack in Week 7 against the Seahawks. Sheard now has 2 1/2 sacks on the season.
Analysis: Sheard is already making an impact in his rookie season for the Browns. However, he is not a stat machine, so he remains a low-end Fantasy DL.

Sheard gets another sack

News: Cleveland DL Jabaal Sheard posted four tackles and a sack during the Browns' 24-17 loss to Oakland in Week 6 on Sunday. Sheard, who was selected in the second round of the previous NFL Draft, now has two sacks in the past four games. He also forced a fumble.
Analysis: Sheard continues to display the solid defensive talent that earned him the Big East defensive player of the year honor while he was at Pittsburgh last year. The 22-year-old has compiled 18 tackles and two forced fumbles. Keep an eye on him in deeper Fantasy IDP formats.

Browns snag DE Sheard

News: With the first of two second-round picks, the Browns selected Pittsburgh defensive end Jabaal Sheard, the Big East’s defensive player of the year, an off-the-edge pass rusher who had nine sacks last season but nearly missed his senior year after being suspended following an arrest. At 6-foot-3, 254 pounds, Sheard is a fast, agile rusher who can get off the ball and around the end. Sheard compared his game to Steelers linebacker James Harrison. "Just as far as aggressiveness, his motor," Sheard said. "I'm always thinking of getting to the quarterback or whoever has the ball in his hands. I want to make that hit where the crowd goes 'Ooohh,' and then everybody screams. I want to be the talk of the game. I want guys to say, 'Man, you’re something else, I never want to play against you again.'"
Analysis: Sheard could fit into the mold of a Trent Cole, who Browns GM Tom Heckert used a draft pick on in Philadelphia once upon a time. With defensive linemen tough to come by in Fantasy play, Sheard is one that has the size and ability to make some waves with the Browns in 2011. Grab him with a late-round pick in the deepest of seasonal leagues and with a late pick in all dynasty/keeper formats. For those owners partaking in rookie-only drafts, he's actually a good mid-round choice.
