News: The Panthers claimed linebacker Doug Hogue off waivers from the Lions Tuesday.
Analysis: Hogue was just a backup linebacker for Detroit and will hold the same role in Carolina. He has no Fantasy appeal.
News: The Lions announced Monday they released linebacker Doug Hogue and signed cornerback Justin Miller.
Analysis: This was a roster move by the Lions to add secondary depth because of injuries. Hogue was just a backup linebacker and had no Fantasy value. Miller has no Fantasy value as well.
News: The Lions spent a fifth-round pick on Syracuse LB Doug Houge, adding depth to their linebacker corps. Hogue has decent speed and a knack for making plays behind the line (26.5 tackles for loss in 25 collegiate games). Linebackers coach Matt Burke believes Doug Hogue has the prototypical physical attributes to be a linebacker in Detroit's system. "(Hogue is) still a little bit raw," Burke said. "But that profile is exactly what we look for at that position. We feel that he can develop into a player for us."
Analysis: Hogue is a 'tweener between linebacker and safety and could be matched up against opposing tight ends and big slot receivers. He also had knee surgery in the spring of 2010, which hurt his draft stock. Since he's expected to provide depth and not start the season as a No. 1 outside linebacker, Fantasy owners shouldn't invest a pick in him.
