News: The Buccaneers continued trimming their roster Friday in preparation for the regular season and released the following players: defensive linemen Frank Okam and Amobi Okoye; defensive backs Larry Asante, Keith Tandy and Cody Grimm; linebacker Rennie Curran; and running back Mossis Madu.
Analysis: Okoye, a first-round pick at the age of 19, has already been rumored to rejoin the Bears. He had four sacks for Chicago last season. The other players were able to make an early impression in training camp and survive the first round of cuts. However, neither of them were ultimately expected to make a Fantasy impact this season and should be left on waivers at this point.
News: When Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris was an assistant at Kansas State, he recruited recently acquired S Larry Asante, but Asante ended up at Nebraska. "I was going to make him the Derrick Brooks of college football and move him to (weakside) linebacker," Morris said, grinning.
Analysis: Asante was drafted in the fifth round earlier this year by Cleveland, but just didn't fit into their plans. Continue to ignore him in IDP Fantasy play.
News: The Buccaneers signed rookie DB Larry Asante off the Browns practice squad on Tuesday.
Analysis: Asante was drafted in the fifth round earlier this year by Cleveland, but just didn't fit into their plans. Continue to ignore him in IDP Fantasy play.
News: Cleveland has signed the following players on Sunday to the practice squad: DB Larry Asante, OL Paul Fanaika, DL Travis Ivey, OL Pat Murray, DL Brian Sanford and DB DeAngelo Smith.
Analysis: None of these players are expected to have any kind of Fantasy value this season, so continue to ignore them.
News: FoxSports.com reports that the Browns have signed DB Larry Asante, their fifth-round draft pick from Nebraska. Asante inked a four-year, $1.96 million deal.
Analysis: The hard hitting Asante is expected to serve in a reserve role this season. He is no better than a late-round flier in deep rookie-only IDP drafts.
News: In addition to the selections of Joe Haden and T.J. Ward, the Browns further added to their defensive stockpile with Nebraska safety Larry Asante (fifth round) and South Carolina DE Clifton Geathers (sixth round).
Analysis: The hard hitting Asante and project-type player Geathers (brother is Bengals DE Robert Geathers) are expected to serve in reserve roles this season. Both are no better than late-round fliers in deep rookie-only IDP drafts.
