News:The Kansas City Star reports Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel said Monday quarterback Brady Quinn suffered an injury to his ribs Week 15 and he is questionable heading into Week 16 vs. Indianapolis. Crennel was vague Monday about who would start at quarterback if Quinn was sidelined. Crennel hinted Ricky Stanzi might start for Kansas City. Theres a possibility, Crennel said of Stanzi playing Sunday. Like I said last week, theres a possibility, and I mentioned injuries as one of the reasons. Well see what Brady looks like, and then well make some decisions and go from there.
Analysis: Stanzi hasn't taken a snap in an NFL game yet, but what do the Chiefs really have to lose? It's not like Quinn or Matt Cassel have gotten the job done this year. Still, even if Stanzi starts Sunday, are you really going to start him in Fantasy? Please look to better alternatives.
News: Chiefs interim head coach Romeo Crennel said Wednesday that QB Kyle Orton would start Week 15 vs. Green Bay, if healthy. Orton is recovering from a dislocated finger on his throwing hand, suffered Week 13. If Orton isn't available, then Ricky Stanzi would start, as Crennel has benched Tyler Palko, who has been starting in place of the injured Matt Cassel.
Analysis: The rookie from Iowa hasn't even taken a snap in an NFL regular season game, so if he is asked to start against Green Bay, then that is a tall order. It's a favorable matchup on paper, but are you really going to start a rookie QB in a Fantasy playoff situation? If Stanzi starts, that has Fantasy desperation written all over it.
News: Chiefs interim coach Romeo Crennel said he hasn't ruled out the possibility of starting rookie QB Ricky Stanzi against Green Bay in Week 15, according to the Kansas City Star. Stanzi has not played at all this season and has been inactive for most weeks.
Analysis: The Chiefs appear to be growing tired of ineffective QB Tyler Palko and could make a change under center. Palko has recorded seven interceptions to just two touchdown passes this season while filling in for injured QB Matt Cassel. Kansas City also has Kyle Orton on the roster, but he has been nursing an injured finger in the past two weeks. Even if Stanzi earns the starting nod, he is not worth utilizing in any Fantasy formats.
News: The Kansas City Chiefs have taken quarterback Ricky Stanzi of Iowa with their first selection in the fifth round. Stanzi could compete with Brodie Croyle as backup to Matt Cassel. In his last year at Iowa, Stanzi hit 221 of 345 passes for 3,004 yards and 25 touchdowns. He was intercepted only six times.
Analysis: Stanzi has the potential to be a solid backup quarterback in the NFL. But so long as he's behind Matt Cassel in Kansas City, his playing time will be limited. We wouldn't take him outside the deepest of rookie-only drafts.
