News: The Eagles announced Tuesday they released linebacker Brian Rolle.
Analysis: It's been a terrible decline the last few months for Rolle. He first loses his starting job at the end of the preseason and now is out of a roster spot. Rolle might be picked up by another team, but you can leave him on waivers in Fantasy IDP formats until he becomes a factor again.
News: Eagles coach Andy Reid announced Sunday linebacker Akeem Jordan has overtaken Brian Rolle as the team's starting weak-side linebacker.
Analysis: Rolle's demotion comes after he struggled the last two preseason games. He probably will be given a chance to regain a starting role with strong play, but he has to climb back up the depth chart. For now, leave Rolle off all Fantasy IDP rosters.
News: Eagles LB Brian Rolle recorded a sack during the Week 14 win at Miami on Sunday. Rolle registered three tackles to go with his sack.
Analysis: Rolle registered his first sack of the season on Sunday. He now has 44 tackles to go with that sack and one forced fumble. Rolle is just a low-end Fantasy option for IDP formats.
News: Eagles LB Brian Rolle had a big moment on the biggest stage during the Week 9 Monday night game against the Bears. Despite the Bears beating the Eagles, Rolle could celebrate scoring a defensive touchdown on Monday Night Football. Rolle picked up a fumble and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter to tie the score up at 10 at that point. Rolle added six tackles, five of which were solo.
Analysis: Rolle's TD was the first fumble return for TD by an Eagles' rookie since Kevin Johnson in 1995. Rolle has been a solid rookie for the Eagles this season. He already has a nine-tackle game under his belt and he's definitely made an impact. He needs to continue on this track and he could become an impactful Fantasy IDP option in no time. That said, he's not a recommended start in Fantasy leagues for Week 10.
News: Eagles LB Brian Rolle told reporters Wednesday that he is the new starting weakside linebacker in place of Casey Matthews, who was moved there after losing the starting middle linebacker job after two weeks. "It's not really that much of a challenge," Rolle said. "I've been playing that position all of camp, and (practicing there through) the first couple of games, as well. It's just a matter of being in there with the 1s now and going out and taking care of business. feel like I'm a guy that is athletic. I'm physical, a good linebacker that knows the game very well and plays hard. I'm not saying that Casey didn't -- Casey's a great player as well. I guess the coaches just felt the need for a new body in there, somebody that may bring a little more excitement, maybe."
Analysis: The Eagles play an aggressive style of defense, so the potential is there for Rolle to post some nice stats. But he has low-end Fantasy appeal until he becomes a stat machine.
News: The Eagles were able to come to terms with former Ohio State linebacker Brian Rolle on Wednesday. Rolle, who the team selected in the sixth round of April's NFL Draft, has the chance to make the team as a special teams player right away.
Analysis: Rolle is an undersized linebacker with exceptional speed, so he will have to play his way towards seeing time on defense in training camp and in the preseason. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on his production given a chance early on, to see how much he figures to play once the season begins assuming he makes the team. Still, Rolle is not worth a pick in most formats at this time as Draft Day approaches.
News: The Eagles drafted three linebackers in April's draft, highlighted by the fourth-round selection of Oregon's Casey Matthews. In addition to him, they picked Ohio State linebacker Brian Rolle in Round 6 and Connecticut linebacker Greg Lloyd in Round 7. Rolle was the playcaller of the Buckeyes defense and made a lot of tackles but will likely be an outside linebacker and special-teams player in the pros. Lloyd, son of former Steelers linebacker Greg Lloyd, is a good tackler but is also injury prone.
Analysis: If there's a linebacker here to speculate on, it's Lloyd, but it's worth a late pick in the deepest of drafts. Rolle could be a force on special teams but isn't expected to be the next London Fletcher -- a short, stout linebacker who totals tons of tackles.
