News: Bengals receiver Ryan Whalen had one catch for 6 yards Sunday at Kansas City in Week 11. He had one target in the game.
Analysis: Whalen has minimal Fantasy value in the majority of leagues. Ignore him in all formats in Week 12 against Oakland.
News: Bengals wide receiver Ryan Whalen recorded his first four career catches in Week 7 against the Steelers. Whalen finished with a team-high four receptions for 31 yards in the 24-17 defeat, but was unable to get into the end zone.
Analysis: Whalen saw his first real action of the season Sunday night and played well. Offensive coordinator Jay Gruden said he wants to get some of Cincinnati's younger receivers more involved in the offense and apparently he wasn't kidding as Whalen and Mohamed Sanu both saw extended playing time. However, until Whalen proves to be a reliable Fantasy option, owners should continue to ignore him in the majority of formats. The Bengals have a bye in Week 8.
News: The Bengals took WR Ryan Whalen from Stanford in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Whalen started 10 games last season and caught 41 passes, two of them for touchdowns.
Analysis: Whalen (6-2, 205) has nice size and is one of the better route runners in the draft. Receivers coach James Urban projects him to work out both in the slot and on the outside, but says he doesn't have near the quick-twitch of current slot starter WR Jordan Shipley. Sounds like a reserve player for the Bengals to us, which means Fantasy owners should pass on him.
