News: Denver linebacker Joe Mays, who is already on IR with a broken left leg, will have surgery on Tuesday to repair his broken fibula, reports the Denver Post.
Analysis: Mays did not suffer any ligament damage in his ankle and that is positive news. He should be ready to go again next season. Mays has limited value in IDP formats.
News: The Broncos placed linebacker Joe Mays on injured reserve Tuesday with a left ankle injury.
Analysis: It's been a rough year for Mays. First, he loses his job as the starting middle linebacker and now he suffered a season-ending injury. Mays didn't have any Fantasy appeal, so continue to leave him off rosters.
News: Broncos coach John Fox said Monday linebacker Joe Mays suffered a fractured fibula Week 8 against the Saints and could miss the rest of the season.
Analysis: It's been a rough year for Mays. First, he loses his job as the starting middle linebacker and now he suffered a likely season-ending injury. Mays didn't have any Fantasy appeal, so continue to leave him off rosters.
News: Broncos linebacker Joe Mays was activated from his suspension on Monday. Mays was suspended one-game for his hit on Texans quarterback Matt Schuab Week 3.
Analysis: Mays has 10 tackles and half a sack through three games this season but has never been much of an option in Fantasy. Continue to ignore him in the majority of IDP formats.
News:The Denver Post reports Broncos coach John Fox said linebacker Joe Mays' one-game suspension was upheld Thursday. Mays will miss Week 4 against the Raiders.
Analysis: Mays is just a low-end Fantasy option in IDP formats, so take him out of lineups Week 4.
News: Multiple sources report Broncos linebacker Joe Mays will be suspended one-game for his thundering hit on Texans quarterback Matt Schuab Week 3. CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports May will appeal his suspension, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Analysis: Mays is just a low-end Fantasy option in IDP formats, so this news won't be of great impact if his suspension eventually holds up.
News: Linebacker Joe Mays was excited to get a three-year, $12 million deal to stay in Denver. Mays has started 17 games since arriving in Denver from Philadelphia in 2010. He had 75 tackles and 12 starts last season, playing mostly on early downs.
Analysis: Mays has potential to be a decent Fantasy choice off waivers during the year, particularly as a one-week option. He should not be drafted.
News: Denver LB Joe Mays had nine tackles, eight solo, in Week 5 against San Diego. The Broncos would lose the game, 29-24, but Mays was always around the ball on Sunday.
Analysis: Mays has 32 tackles on the year for Denver and is looking good so far this season. He landed on injured reserve in 2010 with a knee injury, but seems fine so far in 2011. Fantasy owners in IDP leagues should continue to view Mays as a low-end LB option.
News: The Broncos have placed LB Joe Mays on injured reserve. Mays injured his knee in Week 13 at Kansas City.
Analysis: It's safe to release Mays in all IDP leagues. When healthy, he has minimal Fantasy value.
News: Denver LB Joe Mays left Sunday's game at Kansas City in Week 13 with a knee injury. He finished with five tackles, four solo, before getting hurt. Mays now has 44 tackles on the season.
Analysis: Keep an eye on Mays heading into Week 14 at Arizona. If he's healthy and able to play against the Cardinals he would be considered a low-end Fantasy option in IDP leagues.
News: The Eagles have traded LB Joe Mays to Denver for RB J.J. Arrington, according to ESPN. Mays played 11 games for Philadelphia last season, making one start, and recording 18 tackles with one forced fumble.
Analysis: Mays is entering his third season with 18 career tackles. This deal has the makings of swapping two players who were on the bubble to make their respective teams. While Mays could contribute in Fantasy during 2010, for now he can be ignored on Draft Day in IDP leagues.
News: For the second consecutive week, the Eagles will go with a different look at linebacker because of a knee injury to weakside starter Akeem Jordan. Coach Andy Reid ruled out Jordan for Sunday night's game at Chicago. Will Witherspoon will again start at weakside LB, and second-year man Joe Mays will start in the middle. Chris Gocong, who started in the middle in last week's loss to San Diego, will move back to his customary spot on the strong side. Rookie Moise Fokou, who started the past two games on the strong side, appears to be the odd man out. Additionally, CB Sheldon Brown is listed as questionable with a hamstring injury he suffered in San Diego. The veteran did limited work Thursday and Friday in practice. Reid said it will be a game-time decision as his secondary already deals with depth issues.
Analysis: Witherspoon is a solid Fantasy option this week with Mays a longshot sleeper if you're needy for a LB. Gocong and Brown can't be considered reliable Fantasy choices for Week 11. Jordan obviously shouldn't start, either.
News: Philadelphia has listed the following players as being inactive for Week 7 at Washington on Monday night: DB Dimitri Patterson, LB Joe Mays, WR Kevin Curtis, DL Victor Abiamiri and LB Omar Gaither. Kevin Kolb is the 3rd QB.
Analysis: This is the fourth game in a row that Curtis will miss with the knee injury and Fantasy owners should not plan on having him back any time soon. Even when healthy, Curtis is just a low-end Fantasy option to begin with. The same goes for the rest of the players listed above.
News: The Eagles' list of inactives for Week 6 at Oakland includes WR Brandon Gibson, DB Dimitri Patterson, LB Joe Mays, DL Jason Babin and QB Kevin Kolb.
Analysis: Kolb had some Fantasy appeal when Donovan McNabb was injured, but not anymore. He and the rest of these players belong on waivers in Fantasy.
News: The Eagles have listed their Week 5 inactives: WR Brandon Gibson, DB Quintin Demps, LB Joe Mays, WR Kevin Curtis, DL Trevor Laws and DB Jason Babin.
Analysis: Curtis is the big name among this group, so stash him away in deeper formats. The others in this group all have zero Fantasy value and can continue to be ignored.
News: The Eagles listed QBs Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick as inactive for Week 2 vs. New Orleans. They also listed WR Reggie Brown, WR Brandon Gibson, DB, Quintin Demps and LB Joe Mays as inactive.
Analysis: Aside from McNabb and Vick, none of the players on this list figure to have much Fantasy appeal this season. Leave them on the waiver wire until further notice.
News: Eagles LB Joe Mays (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 2 vs. New Orleans. He did not practice all week and will miss a second straight contest.
Analysis: Mays is pretty much a backup linebacker when healthy and has little to no Fantasy appeal. Keep him reserved in Fantasy until further notice.
News: The Eagles have listed WR Reggie Brown, WR Brandon Gibson, DB Sean Jones, DL Jason Babin and LB Joe Mays as inactive for Week 1 at Carolina.
Analysis: It's really surprising to see Brown among the Eagles inactives since just last season he was considered a starter before he dealt with some injury woes. Philly is now using a lot of younger receivers, like DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin. Most of the inactive players are reserves for the Eagles, so along with Brown, make sure to keep them reserved for Week 1.
News: Eagles LB Joe Mays (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 1 at Carolina. He did not practice all week.
Analysis: The news keeps getting worse for Mays. First, he loses his starting middle linebacker job to Omar Gaither. Now, he is not even going to be on the field Week 1. Mays is not worth owning in Fantasy when healthy, especially if he doesn't have a starting gig.
News: The Eagles are changing their starting middle linebacker two weeks before the start of the regular season. Omar Gaither is taking over for Joe Mays. Mays had replaced Stewart Bradley, who is out for the season with a torn ACL. Gaither was the starter in 2007. "I'm going home," Gaither said Sunday. "I feel like Dorothy. I didn't click my heels, but I got down on my knees and prayed a lot." Gaither had been bothered by a sore knee throughout training camp, but returned to practice on a limited basis last week and was out with the starting unit at practice Sunday. He will remain in that role leading up to the season opener Sept. 13 at Carolina. "I'm here to stay," he said. "I'm not coming out this time."
Analysis: After Bradley's injury, the Eagles made Mays the starter. Mays was a sixth-round pick out of North Dakota State last year. Mays is not worth owning in Fantasy, especially if he doesn't have a starting gig.
News: The Philadelphia Eagles have announced the inactives for their Week 17 game vs. Dallas. Not in uniform will be: QB A.J. Feeley, RB Lorenzo Booker, LB Joe Mays, DE Bryan Smith, TE L.J. Smith and DE Victor Abiamiri.
Analysis: Smith has some minimal Fantasy value when healthy, but you shouldn't be worried about any of these other guys.
News: The Eagles have listed the following players as inactive for Week 16 at Washington: QB A.J. Feeley (3rd QB), RB Lorenzo Booker, LB Joe Mays, LB Bryan Smith and WR Hank Baskett.
Analysis: With a sprained MCL, Baskett is in danger of being lost for the rest of the regular season. The good news is that he's not a consistent stat producer in the first place. Neither are the rest of the players mentioned above. Keep them off Fantasy rosters.
News: The Eagles listed QB A.J. Feeley, LB Joe Mays, LB Bryan Smith and TE Matt Schobel among their inactives for Week 13 against the Cardinals.
Analysis: None of these players does enough statistically to matter in Fantasy even when active. Leave them all on waivers.
News: The following players are listed as inactive for Week 11 at Cincinnati for the Eagles: QB A.J. Feeley (3rd QB), RB Lorenzo Booker, RB Kyle Eckel, LB Joe Mays, LB Bryan Smith and TE Matt Schobel.
Analysis: Keep all of these players reserved for Week 11. When active they have minimal Fantasy value.
News: The Eagles inactives for Week 10 against the Giants include QB A.J. Feely (3rd QB), RB Lorenzo Booker, FB Kyle Eckel, LB Joe Mays, DE Bryan Smith and TE Matt Schobel.
Analysis: Keep all of these players reserved for Week 10. When active they have minimal Fantasy value.
News: Eagles RB Kyle Eckel, LB Joe Mays, LB Bryan Smith, WR Jason Avant and QB A.J. Feeley have all been ruled inactive for Week 9 at Seattle.
Analysis: Most of these players are either reserves or see time on special teams when active. They have little to no Fantasy value and can be kept reserved in Fantasy Week 9.
News: The Eagles have declared QB A.J. Feeley, RB Kyle Eckel, LB Joe Mays, LB Bryan Smith and TE Matt Schobel inactive for Week 8 against the Falcons.
Analysis: None of these players does enough statistically to matter in Fantasy even when active. Leave them all on waivers.
News: The Eagles listed the following players as inactive and out for Week 5's meeting with the Washington Redskins: QB A.J. Feeley (3rd QB), LB Joe Mays, DE Bryan Smith, WR Kevin Curtis, TE Matt Schobel and DE Victor Abiamiri.
Analysis: Keep Curtis reserved for Week 5 against the Redskins. Hopefully he can return soon, but for now he's not worth owning in most Fantasy leagues. None of the other players mentioned have any Fantasy relevance at this time.
News: Eagles QB Jay Feely, LB Joe Mays, WR Kevin Curtis, WR Reggie Brown, DL Victor Abiamiri and DL Bryan Smith have all been ruled inactive for Week 2 at Dallas.
Analysis: The Eagles will play a second straight game without Curtis and Brown. Curtis is expected to be out until October because of hernia injury, and Brown is week-to-week with a hamstring issue. They are both viable Fantasy WRs when healthy. The remaining inactive players have little to no Fantasy value. Keep them reserved Week 2.
News: Eagles QB Jay Feely, LB Joe Mays, WR Kevin Curtis, WR Reggie Brown, DL Victor Abiamari and DL Bryan Smith have all been ruled inactive for Week 2 at Dallas.
News: The Eagles listed the following players as inactive for Week 1: WR Reggie Brown, WR Kevin Curtis, QB A.J. Feeley (third QB), LB Joe Mays, DL Bryan Smith, OL Winston Justice, OL Mike McGlynn and DL Victor Abiamiri.
Analysis: Aside from Reggie Brown and Kevin Curtis, most of the players on this list are going to be in line for considerable playing time anytime soon. Leave them on the waiver wire in all Fantasy leagues until further notice. They've got some depth chart climbing to do.
News: The Philadelphia Daily News reports that Eagles rookie LB Joe Mays is not in danger of being cut when the team cuts its roster down to 53 players Saturday. The rookie capped off an impressive training camp and preseason Thursday night with a 12-tackle performance in the Eagles' 27-20 loss to the New York Jets.
Analysis: Mays had the makings of a future practice-squadder when the Eagles opened training camp at Lehigh six weeks ago. Taken late in the April draft (sixth round, 200th overall pick) out of a Division I-AA school (North Dakota State), the 5-10, 245-pound linebacker seemed a longshot to make the team's season-opening, 53-man roster. His 12-tackle performance in the preseason isn't going to be enough to earn him a starting job, but Fantasy owners in deeper IDP leagues should keep it in mind if he were to gain more playing time at some point.
