News: The Kansas City Chiefs have released Amani Toomer, ending the veteran receiver's short-lived stint with the team and possibly his comeback bid. Toomer signed with Kansas City on Aug. 4 after spending his first 13 seasons with the Giants. He never made much of an impact, spending most of the preseason working with the second and third teams.	Analysis: Toomer was a potential 30-catch receiver for the Chiefs, but he failed to make an impact this preseason. He might have been signed too late in the offseason to have a realistic chance to make the roster. Keep him off of Fantasy rosters at this point.

News: The Kansas City Star reports Chiefs WR Ashley Lelie made his case Saturday night for claiming one of the available wide-receiver spots on the Chiefs roster. Lelie, a former first-round draft pick of the Broncos who is with his fifth team in five years, had four catches for 52 yards while playing with the second-team offense. "This meant everything," said Lelie, who didn’t join the Chiefs until after the first preseason game. "It meant my job ... any type of opportunity you get, you have to show what you can do." Lelie got help with Devard Darling (knee) leaving the game. Bobby Engram, 36, trying to nail down a slot receiver job, caught four passes, but they went for just 11 yards. Amani Toomer, 34, caught a 13-yard pass right before the 2-minute warning in the second half for his only reception of the game.	Analysis: We'll see what happens with Lelie, Engram and Toomer, but none of them have much Fantasy value this season. Ignore all three on Draft Day but keep an eye on how each does to see if they're worth adding off the waiver wire.

News: The Kansas City Star reports the Chiefs have WR Dwayne Bowe as a third-string receiver on the depth chart. The current depth chart lists Terrance Copper and Devard Darling as starters, Amani Toomer and Mark Bradley as second string and Bobby Engram and Bowe as third string. "This group as a whole needs work," Chiefs coach Todd Haley said. "They have a ways to go." Bowe has had problems all offseason, especially with dropped passes. Haley had Bowe's eyes checked to find out whether his dropped passes were related to poor vision, had cleats examined to help receivers improve their routes and has tried verbal assault therapy — anything to get through to Bowe, who is talented but inconsistent. Now, Haley is attacking Bowe's job security with the depth chart. "I'm always pushing and prodding and trying to instigate a little bit and get some emotion out of guys and get some passion out of guys," Haley said. "That's the way I've done it. There's a lot of different ways. That's what I've done more than anything, just try to press them every day and not give them a whole lot of time to breathe."	Analysis: We expect Bowe will start playing to the level Haley wants, and he's still worth drafting as a No. 2 Fantasy WR worth a pick around Round 4 in all leagues. That said, he needs to start improving in practice so he can rise up the depth chart and regain confidence in Haley.

News: The Kansas City Star reports that the Chiefs signed veteran WR Amani Toomer on Tuesday following a tryout on Monday. Toomer has spent the entire offseason as a free agent and would probably fit in right away with the Chiefs as another capable possession receiver alongside Bobby Engram and Dwayne Bowe.	Analysis: What a great landing spot this is for Toomer, who is 34 but still capable of catching 40 passes per season. His stats won't be mind-blowing, but he'll be useful as a one-week replacement off the waiver wire if he did land at Arrowhead.

News: Giants WR Amani Toomer made two grabs for 26 yards as New York was bounced from the playoffs on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles advance to the NFC title game as the Giants, the defending Super Bowl champs, go home. The Giants amassed just 169 yards through the air and struggled without Plaxico Burress, losing four of their final five games.	Analysis: Toomer's production didn't exactly step up when Burress went out Week 11. He finished the season with 48 catches for 580 yards and four touchdowns and will be entering his 14th NFL season next year. Toomer is scheduled to be a free agent heading into the '09 season, so his Fantasy status can't be certain until we know where he'll be, but chances are he won't be better than a reserve option.

News: With the Giants locked into the No. 1 seed in the NFC, the club didn't have to win at Minnesota in Week 17, but they still played hard. WR Amani Toomer made two catches for 16 yards in the loss to the Vikings.	Analysis: Toomer and the Giants have a week off before playing in the Divisional Playoffs during the weekend of Jan. 10-11. He's no better than a low-end No. 2 WR playoff Fantasy leagues. Toomer is scheduled to be a free agent after the '09 season, so his Fantasy status can't be certain until we know where he'll be, but chances are he won't be better than a reserve option.

News: Giants WR Amani Toomer caught two passes in Week 16 against the Panthers. His longest catch went for 15 yards.	Analysis: The Giants threw for just 181 yards in Week 16 and spread that out to seven receivers. With everything clinched for the Giants, they will likely be looking to rest veterans like Toomer in Week 17 in Minnesota, making him a tough start.

News: Giants WR Amani Toomer helped New York fans forget about Plaxico Burress' mess on Sunday in Week 13's win over the Redskins. Toomer caught five passes from Eli Manning for 85 yards to lead the team in yardage. Toomer scored on the opening drive of the game for the Giants as he beat Fred Smoot one-on-one down the sideline for a 40-yard TD grab.	Analysis: Toomer has touchdowns in consecutive weeks and three in his last five games. That is pertinent since he's got just three on the season. Week 13 was Toomer's best game of the entire season and with Burress out this can continue in Week 14 against Philadelphia. You should definitely consider picking Toomer up in deeper Fantasy leagues. He's owned in just 34 percent of CBSSports.com leagues right now.

News: Giants WR Amani Toomer caught four passes for 30 yards in Week 12 at Arizona, including a 12-yard touchdown pass. It was his third touchdown catch of the season.	Analysis: The Giants played without Plaxico Burress for much of the game, but Eli Manning managed to spread the ball to seven receivers. Toomer has been having a down year by his standards with the Giants having other receivers in the mix like Domenik Hixon and Steve Smith. He can still be useful as a red zone target, but is a low-end Fantasy option for Week 13 at Washington.

Analysis: Toomer continues to be part of the Giants offense, but not so significant that Fantasy owners will want to involve him. He remains a low-end Fantasy wideout option that's likely better served on your bench than in your lineup. The Giants host the Ravens in Week 11.

Eli Manning threw the ball his way three times.	Analysis: Toomer didn't get a ton of looks in Week 8 and he's starting to lose some touches to second-year receiver Steve Smith. Both are possession receivers, but Manning seems to be getting more and more comfortable with Smith. Still, Toomer is a target in the red zone and stands to get enough looks each week to be considered as a bye week replacement option off the waiver wire for Week 9 when the Giants host the Cowboys.

Analysis: Toomer's role did not change much despite the absence of Plaxico Burress. He was still the possession receiver in the offense with Domenick Hixon taking over the deep ball threat for Burress. Toomer was thrown to five times and that's more or less what Fantasy owners should expect from him on a regular basis. He remains a decent bye week replacement option because he is a regular target in an efficient pass offense and frequently sees looks in the red zone. Use him as a low-end starter or bye week replacement for Week 6 at Cleveland.

News: With Plaxico Burress suspended for Week 5 against Seattle, Amani Toomer will step up to the No. 1 receiver spot on the depth chart for the Giants. The Seahawks have allowed an average of 226.3 yards per game through the air, eighth most in the NFL.	Analysis: Toomer led the team in receiving yards in Week 3 against Cincinnati with 64 on five catches. His 31-yard catch in overtime set the team up for a game-winning field goal, but if it weren't for that he would have had a pretty unproductive day. Now, with Toomer out of the picture, expect Eli Manning to lean heavily on Toomer in Week 5, making him a nice bye week replacement option off your bench or the waiver wire.

News: Giants WR Amani Toomer led the team in receiving yards in Week 3 against Cincinnati with 64 on five catches. His 31-yard catch in overtime set the team up for a game-winning field goal.	Analysis: Toomer's catch in overtime was spectacular, as he dove for a lob down the sideline and tiptoed both feet in bounds even as he stretch out to make the haul. But if it wasn't for that catch, his four catches for 33 yards would not have helped Fantasy owners much. Fantasy owners shouldn't expect spectacular stats from him, but he can be useful in a pinch as a low-end starter if you need a stopgap or bye week replacement down the stretch. Just don't use him for that in Week 4 because it's the Giants who will be on a bye. The Giants will return in Week 5 against Seattle at home.

Toomer to play Bengals in Week 3	Updated 9/18/2008

News: Giants WR Amani Toomer will take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3 at Giants Stadium. The Bengals (0-2) have allowed just 247 yards passing combined over their first two games. That's the fewest passing yards of any team this season that has played two games. They've allowed just one touchdown in the two games, but have recorded no interceptions and only one sack.	Analysis: Don't be alarmed by the yardage totals. The Giants aren't exactly playing the best pass defense in the league. The numbers, in this case, do lie. The Bengals played a rookie quarterback playing his first NFL game in Week 1 and they played in ridiculously windy conditions in Week 2 due to the remnants of Hurricane Ike. Toomer caught six passes for 67 yards in Week 2 at St. Louis, including a 10-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter for his first score of the season. Fantasy owners shouldn't expect spectacular stats from him, but he can be useful in a pinch as a low-end starter if you need a stopgap.

Analysis: Toomer continues to be a solid possession receiver for the Giants and is a regular target in the red zone. In Week 1 against Washington, he only didn't score a touchdown because he was interfered with in the end zone. Fantasy owners shouldn't expect spectacular stats from him, but he can be useful in a pinch as a low-end starter if you need a stopgap. Analysis: Toomer has now been with the Giants for 13 seasons and has firmly entrenched himself as the No. 2 wide receiver behind Plaxico Burress. Toomer will compete with second-year player Steve Smith for playing time, but will remain the starter opposite Plaxico Burress. Look at Toomer as a No. 4 Fantasy option for Week 1. He is a solid possession receiver who could be in line for looks near the goal line.

Toomer has been practicing just once a day but has seen his knee swell up on him. No word has been given to the severity of the injury, or if Toomer will miss any playing time.	Analysis: Once the year starts, look for Toomer to again play well and be considered a No. 4/reserve Fantasy option in 2008. He is either someone you can pick with a late-round choice or find off the waiver wire to serve as a one-week replacement.

News: Giants veteran receiver Amani Toomer missed the New York's training camp practice on Tuesday with swelling in his left leg. Coach Tom Coughlin did not seemed concerned after the two-hour workout, the team's seventh practice in four days at the University at Albany.	Analysis: Toomer doesn't look like he will miss a lot of time. He should be back on the field in a few days. The Giants are also missing Plaxico Burress and Steve Smith with injuries, however, so the entire grouping looks shaky right now. Once the year starts, however, look for Toomer to again play well and be considered a No. 4 Fantasy option in 2008. He is a great option with a late-round pick in all leagues.

News: It's not a stretch to say the 33-year-old Amani Toomer looks way ahead of where he was at this point last year, reports the New York Daily News. One year ago, Toomer was rehabbing his way back from a torn ACL in his left knee. It was an injury that had many wondering if his career was nearing an end. But 59 catches, 760 yards, and one Super Bowl championship later, the 13-year veteran feels like he's just getting started. "It always could be better," Toomer said. "I felt like last season, I wouldn't say I was disappointed, but I felt like I didn't have the season I wanted to have at the beginning of the year. Toward the end I started coming around a little bit, but I feel like I need to put together a whole complete season." That desire is one of the reasons why Toomer never considered retirement, despite the lure of riding off into the sunset after finally winning the Super Bowl. But he said the biggest reason was that "I still enjoy it. It's not really work to me."	Analysis: Toomer will compete with Steve Smith for playing time, but Toomer will remain the starter opposite Plaxico Burress. Look for Toomer to again play well and be considered a No. 4 Fantasy option in 2008. He is a great option with a late-round pick in all leagues.

News: Twelve-year NFL veteran Amani Toomer won a Super Bowl in 2007, and also had one of his most productive seasons in his last four years. In the regular season, Toomer caught 59 passes for 760 yards (12.9 avg.) and three touchdowns, then added 21 catches for 280 yards with three more scores in four postseason contests.	Analysis: Toomer will enter 2008 in a contract year, but the thought of retirement might creep into his head, especially after winning a Super Bowl ring. Toomer will be 34 when the 2008 season gets into full swing and is only good for a handful of touchdowns with no more than 750 yards, and those totals will dwindle with Steve Smith taking a larger role in the offense next season. Toomer is no better than a reserve WR worth a late-round pick in drafts this summer.

News: Giants WR Amani Toomer failed to score a touchdown in the NFC Championship against the Packers after scoring at least once in the first two rounds of the playoffs. Toomer did finish the game with four catches for 42 yards.	Analysis: Toomer heads to his second Super Bowl with the Giants in what might be one, if not his last NFL season. But he is doing one heck of a job in the playoffs. He has three touchdowns and is one of Eli Manning's favorite targets. He remains a solid No. 2 Fantasy WR in postseason formats, and if he does return in 2008, he will likely be a No. 4 Fantasy WR on Draft Day.

News: Giants WR Amani Toomer, who caught only three touchdown passes all season, grabbed two Sunday in the Divisional Playoff game at Dallas -- one on a 52-yard catch-and-run in the first quarter. He finished with four catches total for 80 yards.	Analysis: Toomer caught a touchdown in the Wild Card game too, so he now has as many in the postseason as he had during the season. Although he rebounded nicely from a dreadful 2006, he likely won't make a significant impact in Fantasy leagues at age 33. Expect him to go late if at all on Draft Day 2008.

News: Giants WR Amani Toomer was Eli Manning's favorite target during a 24-14 Wild Card win against the Bucs. The veteran wide receiver caught a team-high seven passes for 74 yards and a touchdown. He found the end zone on a 4-yard grab in the fourth quarter to all but seal the win for the Giants.	Analysis: Toomer came up big against the Bucs in what might be one of his final playoff games. He has been kicking around the NFL for 12 years now, all with the Giants. He holds many of their team receiving records, but is merely a No. 4 Fantasy WR, that is if he returns in 2008. He is a decent No. 2 Fantasy WR in playoff formats.

The Giants pass offense is too hit-or-miss to rely on Toomer for Fantasy Week 17 vs. the Patriots.

News: According to weather forecasts as well as CBS on the scene in Buffalo, there are strong winds and rain forecast for this Sunday in Western New York which will impact the Giants-Bills Week 16 contest. The Weather Channel reports that the wind is at 27 m.p.h. with gusts up to 37 m.p.h.	Analysis: Such weather will result in both teams opting to run more and throw short-area passes to negate the impact of the weather. All told, it's a bad week to start Eli Manning, Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer on the Giants as well as Trent Edwards and Lee Evans on the Bills. However, running backs Brandon Jacobs and Marshawn Lynch (and Fred Jackson in deeper leagues) should see quite a workload. We'll let you know if the weather changes, but don't expect it to.

News: Giants WR Amani Toomer caught three passes for 37 yards in Week 14 at Philadelphia.	Analysis: Toomer is usually used by QB Eli Manning as his possession receiver, but Toomer can get forgotten at times when Plaxico Burress is going well. Burress looked very good in Week 14 and Fantasy owners should consider Toomer too much of a wild card for Week 15 at Washington.

News: Giants WR Amani Toomer has played against the Eagles 20 times in his 12-year career, but has only scored six touchdowns over that span. He will try to make it at least 21 in Week 14 at Philly, where he had his best career game against the Eagles last season, catching 12 balls for 137 yards and two touchdowns.	Analysis: Toomer heads into Week 14 seeking his first 100-yard receiving game of the season. Toomer has rarely got big chunks of yardage in single games over the last few years and only has three touchdowns this season. He is coming off a scoring outing against the Bears, so if Eli Manning can get things going against Philadelphia, he should be looking Toomer's way in the red zone. Consider him a solid No. 3 Fantasy WR in Week 14.

Amani Toomer should see extended looks from Eli Manning against one of the softest pass defenses in the league -- and one that will be without its best cornerback, Antoine Winfield.	Analysis: Toomer is a sneaky No. 3 Fantasy WR this week, especially in deeper leagues. He's got a shot to post some good numbers as the Vikings do allow gaudy receiving stats almost on a weekly basis.

News: Giants WR Amani Toomer caught three passes for 37 yards during a Week 10 loss to the Cowboys. It was the third straight week Toomer recorded three or fewer catches and the second straight week without a touchdown.	Analysis: Thanks to Eli Manning, the Giants' passing offense has been pretty pathetic in recent weeks. Toomer is still second on the depth chart in New York, but produces more like a No. 4 Fantasy WR. However, the Giants play a suspect Lions' pass defense in Week 11 and Toomer might slide in as a No. 3 Fantasy WR or 'flex' option in larger leagues.

News: In his last five games against Dallas, WR Amani Toomer has zero touchdowns and only came close to a 100-yard game in Week 1 of this season (91 yards on nine catches). With the Cowboys' secondary improved and WR Plaxico Burress expected to catch his fair share of passes, Toomer could be limited in Week 10 play vs. the Cowboys.	Analysis: Think of Toomer as nothing more than a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR candidate. He'll catch his fair share of passes, but he's guaranteed nothing otherwise. The matchup is clearly not in his favor.

News: Giants WR Amani Toomer caught one pass for 13 yards in Week 8 vs. the Dolphins, in a game played in London's Wembley Stadium.	Analysis: The Giants were unable to do anything in the air in a game played under very rainy conditions in London. Giants QB Eli Manning finished with just 59 yards passing. Toomer was actually targeted in the end zone, but Manning's throw got away from him and he overthrew Toomer -- who was wide open on the play. In what should be much easier playing conditions in Week 10, Toomer can be used as a viable No. 3 receiver in larger leagues. He'll be on a bye in Week 9.

News: Amani Toomer is one of several Giants who have potential for a high-stat game when they play the Dolphins in London in Week 8. Toomer faces a Dolphins pass defense that has allowed 15 passing touchdowns this season. They rank 14th in pass yardage allowed. Toomer broke the team record for career TD catches with a score last week.	Analysis: Toomer isn't a bad low-end No. 2/top-end No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 8, especially with so many receivers out on the bye week. Regard him in that fashion when he plays across the pond this week.

News: Giants WR Amani Toomer had three catches for 36 yards in Week 7 vs. San Francisco, including a 4-yard touchdown that broke the team record for career TD catches.	Analysis: Toomer still sees enough passes thrown his way to matter in larger Fantasy formats. He should be considered a decent bye-week replacement for Week 8. The Giants will travel to London, England to take on the Miami Dolphins in what should be a good offensive game for New York.

News: Instead of complaining after failing to catch a pass two weeks ago against the Jets, New York Giants receiver Amani Toomer kept his mouth shut and worked. It wasn't surprising. The 12-year veteran has long put the team and winning ahead of his own statistics. The work paid off on Monday night when Toomer hauled in a game-high seven passes and a touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons and became the Giants' career receiving leader with 587 catches. The 33-year-old Toomer didn't want to say much about either breaking Tiki Barber's old receiving mark (586) or tying Kyle Rote's career touchdown reception mark of 48, noting that he plans on playing several more years. "I definitely am playing for the enjoyment of the game," Toomer said. "But I want to look back and feel that I have accomplished something. Like I said before, when I'm done, I'll think back."	Analysis: Coming off his second major knee surgery, Toomer has caught 26 passes for 306 yards and a touchdown in six games. The one game that sticks out, though, is the 35-24 win over the Jets on Oct. 7. Eli Manning hit 13 of 25 passes in the game, but none went to Toomer. It marked only the third time since he became a starter in 1999 that he failed to catch at least one pass in a game. "I was a little disappointed, but it's hard to get disappointed when you win," Toomer said. "Wins don't come easy in this league and having a three-game winning streak (at that point) is nothing to be upset about." Toomer is a great team player, but in terms of Fantasy prowess, he is nothing more than either a No. 3 or No. 4 Fantasy WR on most weeks.

His start to the 2007 season is eerily similar to his 2006 start, when he had a monster game in Week 2 (12-137, 2 touchdowns), but then never had more than four catches in a game again before tearing his ACL in Week 9. News: The New York Daily News reports that while other Giants aren't too concerned with the team's 0-2 start, veteran WR Amani Toomer is a little more frenetic. "We're 0-2 and we definitely need to find a way to win," he said. "It's as close to a must-win as you can get in the third week of the season."	Analysis: Toomer has 11 catches for 139 yards (12.6 avg.) through two games. We'd advise using him as a low-end No. 4 receiver when he plays at Washington in Week 3. He had 81 yards on four catches in one game last year.
