Giants will keep Prince Amukamara for fifth year

(5/1/2014) The Giants will pick up the fifth-year option on cornerback Prince Amukamara, the Newark Star-Ledger reported Thursday. He'll get paid close to $7 million in 2015 and is expected to start opposite Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

(4/23/2014) Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara admitted he's wondering about his role with the team after New York added cornerbacks Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Walter Thurmond and Zack Bowman while re-signing Trumaine McBride.

"I think it's natural for someone to think that, especially if you feel threatened by the guys and the guys are good," Amukamara told ESPN.com. "And there are two sides to that. You can look at it and say, 'This guy can help the team,' or you can say, 'This guy might take my spot.' But it's not my job to worry about that."

Amukamara is entering the final year of his rookie deal. The Giants have until May 3 to exercise his 2015 option.

Though Amukamara did not come down with an interception, he still had a productive game. Amukamara came in second on the team with nine tackles -- all solo. 

Amukamara has 35 tackles and one interception through the first six games of the season.

(9/30/2013) Giants linebacker Spencer Paysinger, safety Antrel Rolle and cornerback Prince Amukamara were the top statistical performers on defense during a 31-7 blowout loss Week 4 at Kansas City.

Paysinger had seven solo tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery. Rolle had six solo tackles and one interception. Amukamara had three tackles (two solo), one interception and two pass defenses.

(9/23/2013) The Giants defense didn't have a strong showing in a 38-0 loss Week 3 at Carolina, which meant it didn't have many individual standout performers on defense.

Safety Ryan Mundy had a team-high nine tackles (five solo). Defensive tackle Linval Joseph (five solo) and linebacker Mark Herzlich (four solo) both finished with eight tackles. Cornerback Prince Amukamara had six tackles (four solo) and one pass defense.

The Giants managed only one sack from Mathias Kiwanuka, who had four solo tackles. Defensive lineman Jason Pierre-Paul had five solo tackles (one tackle for loss). 

Cornerback Aaron Ross, who started for the injured Corey Webster, had the team's lone interception.

The Giants desperately need Amukamara for Sunday's game against Peyton Manning and the Broncos.

(9/8/2013) Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara was forced out of Sunday night's contest against the Cowboys in Week 1 with concussion-like symptoms. 

Amukamara was involved in a collision with Ryan Mundy late in the first half. He finished with four tackles and a pass defended before leaving the game. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game. His status for Week 2 at home against Denver remains in question.

Still, the paper says the Cowboys "should basically force the ball to Bryant no matter what, but he'll be involved in one heck of a mismatch if [Corey Webster] is on him."

Webster allowed a whopping 10.3 yards per pass attempt last season.
